How about Chris Fullmers Component onto Face plugin?
It does not exactly "drop" a component, but it places a copy of a component on the center of each selected face.

edit: on hidden faces it works as well!

Nice mood David, I like it... now curious to see the whole thing.
Just two tiny things I've noticed :
cheers
Great! very ballanced DWC and really good model. What is your workflow?
Come on Taylor, you can do it!
Gaieus is right, there is a lot to learn when you work your way up, starting off with some primitives. First lesson: keeping it simple. Adams plans seem to be good for a start, they even have a scale.
Don't want to push you, just trying to encourage.
Very good idea, lets share some people silhouettes. But since this thread is about disco balls, we should move to here: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=31744

Nicolas promised in the disco ball thread to share some silhouettes of nightlife folks.
These are hard to find and usually you want many different if you need them for a scene.
I thought it could be nice having everyone who is interested to trace a few photos - like this we could gather a crowd of 2D components.
For the start I picked two rather classic poses and tried to make them fit into the SketchUp 2D people category (around 400 edges):

who is next?
Hi Nicolas, unfortunately most of the silhouettes are from a resource book I bought, so I cannot share them here. Dancing people are not easy to find, might make sense to trace some photos.
I've spotted some at Formfonts, but that's not free.
Have enjoyed watching your work on your blog, curious to see what you have in the making...
+1
the texture is kind of "taking over" the impression. Is that FotoSketcher? Maybe you could try to process with less intensity and instead two or three times, this works for me in some cases.
a.
Glad I could be helpful.
It is nice to have an exercise that can also serve a purpose, so I have to say thanks in return, right?

Nice one TIG, have not seen it before.
Here is my favorite projection mapping art:

these guys rock!
hi Ronan, I hope this one can help you out. It is far from being accurately modeled - just thought I should give it a try this late evening.
see you

Nightclub lighting design.
Even my idea to have the Dj's desk made of concrete was adopted.
In this project I used SketchUp for almost everything.

Yummy, UV-tools! This is good news Pete, thanks for cheering us up. I mean that I don't expect good software to be extremely inexpensive, but the pricing of Tgi3D has absorbed my exitement for now.
Like Mitcorb says: lets sit, watch and learn.
Btw, photogrammetric modelling I get for less with PhotoSketch.
What in all heavens is this, and where does that come from?????
Can only find these videos and some .skp tutorials on warehouse...

Nice shadows in the Lumion videos.
Quite some developement indeed, game technology and gpu rendering is bringing us a lot of novelties.
I would find it really hard to keep up with, if I was looking for exterior animation tools.
But (luckily) I need renderers that can handle multiple lights. I think only LightUp has this - or did I miss something about the other ones you named here?
Thanks James, did'nt know about the P Bourke collection - quite a few seamless ones there.
Still searching my stone tiles though, but without pressure (it's one of those "one day I might find the time" projects)
alx
Yes, and especially the variety of stonewall textures. It looks like the collector is based in Italy - so to say "at the source" of variety. Some of them are seamless by the way.
I even found one that is a bit closer to what I am looking for, still not close enough...

any ideas?
cheers
