      UPDATE:

Ive just bought a ASUS Nvidea EN9400GT (1Gb RAM), was cheap (UK ยฃ40), installed and working, has corrected my "selection" problem and is now super fast....

I was on an Intel Board which that inbuilt unit was 512Mb RAM (so wasnt a slow unit) however seems to be all about the OpenGL componant of the graphics board.

      Many Thanks

      Hi

Same problem, its your Graphics card.... I have an Nvidia on a P3 850Mhz (0.8Ghz) and it runs way faster than my Core2DUO at 2.4Ghz with the intel board.

90% of the software relies on openGL to work correctly, i am just researching cards now, however NVidia seem to support openGL fully... The card i tested it on was a GeForce4 Ti which runs like a rocket.

      Hi

      UPDATE:

Working, thanks to the learning curve, was a conjuction between non welded vector line for "follow me" and the fact the "resolution" was to high, slighty concerned that it isnt true vector with circles (using the vector beziers storage methods), however the fact i now know this and the methods to get around it is good.

      Many Thanks ๐Ÿ˜„

Weld plugin by Rick Wilson at Smustard ๐Ÿ˜‰ (it's free)

      Got it, works well ๐Ÿ˜„

The odd thing is, its now one line, i can select it, use the follow me tool, the red line follows all the way down the curve BUT still only stops at the straight part.... ive saved an updated one here http://www.ashleygriffin.co.uk/temp/followme.skp

      @unknownuser said:

If you measure your object it's something like 1 mm

Which is interesting as this end it shows 15mm (see image).

Seems you must weld all the curve line before make your follow me

How do you "weld", i did think this, but cant see how you weld lines together.

      @unknownuser said:

(a cool plug by Chris Fullmer do that perfectly)perpendicular face tool

Got this, however the "pull face along vector" only seems to pull straight vectors, not curves as i need them...

And also your object is very little! You must Scale * 1000 !

Needs to ne this small, thats how large it is in real life ๐Ÿ˜ž

      Ive hit a snag.... (bug?)

I got your sample working... got mine working, however since i found out about the sections in circles i ramped it up to 360 (1 section per degree).

Now the follow me doesnt work.... can someone have a look at this and tell me whats happening.... http://www.ashleygriffin.co.uk/temp/followme.skp

      You da man ๐Ÿ˜

My problem was the vector line was "grouped" when i exploded it, it all worked as planned.

I have installed that plug in as well however it says "v6" will it work in 7?

1 last thing, my curves seem very clunky.... I am usig the draw circle tool... any ideas why?

      Many Thanks

      Hi Ashley,

I happen to have a very simple one in the warehouse. Download the model and follow the "instructions" inside (it was made for another help topic actually):

      Hi

Stuck again, heres the problem... i created a 90 degree arc, its basiclly just a line on the screen in 2D, how can i created this to a solid 3D 90 degree pipe, i thought the "follow me" thing would do it but i just cant get this to work....

      You da man ๐Ÿ˜

However i seem to have something already in 7 called "Create Face" under "tools>utilities", this worked when i selected all sides, then selected this, a face appeared and i can now make it 3d ๐Ÿ˜„

      Many Thanks

      @remus said:

If its quite a simple piece of linework, as in your first example, you can just drawover one of the lines and the face will appear.

If it's more complicated, as with your second example, there is a handy little script called make faces that will find all the faces for you: http://www.smustard.com/script/MakeFaces

    • Drawing lines then creating a "face" (or importing)

      Hi

Heres a very good question, if i draw 4 lines, all independant, then move each line to connect with the other (resulting in a 4 sided closed box) i can then group this, however how do i create a "face" between these lines so i can then "push/pull" the face to 3d?

This goes for importing as well, i have saved a design (2D) from Corel Draw, saved as DXF, imported (it imported fine) then grouped all lines, but theres no "face" meaning i cant created the 3D object...

      Many Thanks

I'm looking at a ASUS Nvidia card, there fairly cheap (US $30-40 on eBay), small price to pay for working kit...

I do agree its abit of a downer but not much you can do about it if manufactures are not supporting certain programming systems (openGL).

      Many Thanks

well this is a shock, Matrox G400 DUAL HEAD (although this has a special BIOS for TV output) itโ€™s very slow (no Hardware Acceleration), the same machine with a NVIDIA GeForce T4 (old card) went like a rocket (has Hard Acceleration) in software.

Its way quicker than my Core2DUO 2.4Ghz running XP64bit, this machine I tested it on is a P3 800Mhz.... so itโ€™s all to do with graphics cards...

      Will keep you posted.

Well at the moment, the Matrox G400 and G550 (both had openGL as would run Quake III, was going to put one of those in.

I might give one a wizz in the test machine (VERY slow XP P3 box) as i have a few special BIOS TV G400 dual head cards to see how they get on, if it works well on there then will look at a G550 LP card (as i have 2U server size cases).

      Many Thanks

    • RE: Sometimes push/pull tool doesnt work

Thereโ€™s something else i have noticed, this "cant select a face to push pull", it seems may also be a openGL support issue.

I found if I turn off Hardware Acceleration in the preferences THEN i can select the face as i should be able to...

Looking at another graphics card that supports openGL better.

      Many Thanks

    • RE: Selecting the tight object (not possible)

      Hi

Thanks, will look in to this, however its a Low Profile case so would need to be server size support.

I'll do some research, do you know which manufacture has really good OpelGL support (Matrox would be nice, i like those and i dont play games, its a design box only).

      Many Thanks

      @remus said:

Unfortunately I think it is a problem with your hardware, as intel boards generally have crap openGL support.

One sure fire way of fixing it would be to uy a cheap graphics card, something like this would suffice: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-107-OK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1010

    • RE: Selecting the tight object (not possible)

i have an Intel G965 board, updated the drivers.... however i think it is the "reverse bug", when I turn the hardware acceleration off, it works perfect, however between clicks I can go and make dinner.

Looks like I will need to live with it until Google fixes the problem (as the menu says its a bug).

Unless anyone knows of a OpelGL update but as the software says it s a bug bet thereโ€™s no fix.

    • RE: Sometimes push/pull tool doesnt work

I found another way to get around this..... instead of "push/pull" you can also "edit group" or "explode" and then select the WHOLE FACE and pull it to where you want with the MOVE/COPY, however you need to be carful as you can pull it anywhere unlike "push" which will only go in 2 directions (forward and back).

Still works though when you can push/pull. Only really good when your lining stuff up (like i do all the time) as it will snap to the surface (assuming you have those options to see in VIEW).

      Many Thanks

    • RE: Sometimes push/pull tool doesnt work

Ive noticed this, one thing i found (50%) of the time is the angle you are looking at that face, it seems the mouse sometimes needs to point at the connecting EDGE of that face to allow you to push or pull it, however i am sure there is 1 face you cant push or pull, and thats the ORGINAL face you created then pulled it from there.... Just my guess but i bet i'm right.

      Many Thanks

I problem with the push/pupp-tool... and some other like scale. Sometimes they doesnt work!! Usally they work if you change the angle of view or pan around... but with some surfaces it never work!

iยดm just playing around with a model and the areas in the red rectangles cant be changed...for exampel

thank in advance! ...and sorry for my bad english ๐Ÿ˜‰
