I have had this same issue in the past. Make sure there are no characters in your file name at all, even the folders. We had an "&" in our project name that VR did not like that at all.

Now I also render all finals into a folder on my desktop to shorten any issues with folder structure as well.

Thank you for your reply. Good to get this tips about bugs discovered by experience!

About the Vray Frame Buffer I still think it is a bit rigid and something as useful as recovering a past file rendered in it should be possible. It is quite easy to loose work with how it works...

I am curious, is there something in the 3ds max Frame Buffer that Vray could still learn from?

    • Recover an image from a batch render that did not save?

      Hi,

Sometimes, after leaving a batch to render, with a correct Output File path (including a file name for the selected ".vrimg" extension), and with "Save to output" and "Render to VRImage" enabled, I GET NO OUTPUT FILE at all.

This has happened to me sometimes, and needless to say, it is very frustrating.

My question is, is there any way to recover files that have been previewed in the Frame Buffer?? Or, is there any temporary folder where I can find data of my previously rendered scenes??, and if that is the case, how can I use that data and transform it into an image file.

      I use VFS 2.0 on Sketchup 2015.

Your help would be much appreciated.

    • RE: Vray render 7 out 8 core freezing

In case there is still someone wondering about this, I have experienced LC freezing while trying to render a scene using caustics. I would recommend to turn on caustics just if you are completely certain about its settings. An error in the caustics settings can blow up your LC.

I have also experienced freezing of the LC when the network supporting a DR is not properly set up. Specifically, slaves not having access to resources in the model. I solved it by getting a network with a server that contains all textures or proxies.

So, appart from what said before me, also check caustics and DR settings.

Great plug-in! Thanks a lot TT.

Also here for a question, in case anybody got to it already: What would be the recommended settings of the CleanUp plug-in so it doesn't kill the proxy materials??

In my experience it has taken down the "linked" materials used in proxies, someone else had the same trouble?

Sorry, I forgot to explain that I use proxies in Vray 2.0 (in SKP2016).

      Thanks,

    • RE: [Plugin][$] FredoScale - v3.6a - 01 Apr 24

      Hello everyone,

Amazing plugin! But, the more I use it I go finding some problems, I don´t know if they are common bugs or just limitations of the plugin.

I usually have problems at exploding, grouping or regrouping geometry that has been sheared preaviously (I have just noticed it when using "shear").

The reshaped elements or components return to their original shape, (previous to FredoScale), after doing any of the operations listed:

      • after exploding a reshaped group. (sometimes)
      • after "copying-pasting out" a plane from a reshaped group.
      • after grouping a set of reshaped groups.

    • Batch Render with VFB channels

      Hello everyone,

I have learnt almost all I know in rendering by reading you people, so big thanks!! I post my question as it seems it has not been addressed previously, I hope I am not doubling a post.

So, I have just discovered the "Batch Render" option. But there does not seem to be an option to save any other VFB channels than alpha. How can I batch render and still get my MatsID, Z-Depht, etc VFB channels output?
