    • RE: [Tutorial] Smooth Animations from Sketchup - WIP

Dear Paul or anyone who may be able to help,

I have used your tutorial to create several very smooth animations. However I am now onto the biggest and I am struugling. I am trying to import the files and have checked 'numbered stills' yet it keeps on just importing the first file as a still. Any advice?

      Kind regards,

      Sadz

Right I have just spoken to them and the actual 3D development package they are using is called Milkshape 3D, ever heard of it?

      Thanks Gaius,

I think that has answered my question. No wonder it is causing such a problem. I think they are just going to have to build there own version of the model.

Thanks again, you realy are the the oracle of 3D!!

    • Converting Formats

Now here is a question. I would appreciate any advice at all but I understand it is quite a specific issue.

Here it is. There are two 3D designers (one being me), both working for the same client on serparate projects but with some cross over. I am using SU and I dont know what they are using but the format is CPO. Now I am exporting my model in 3ds they are then trying to convert it using Milkshake 3D. However it is not working because of the size of the model. I have already simplified it as much as I can (previously it was too big even to convert to 3ds). Short of buying Studio Max 6 is there anything else I can try?

Many thanks in advance for any light that can be shed on the problem.

      Kind regards,

    • Black Crosses

      Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone can help. I am using layout and when I insert my SU model there are giant black crosses visable on certain components. These are not there in SU, I thought it may be due to the guides but I have turned them off in SU and the problem is still there.

      Any ideas?

      Many thanks,

    • RE: Edge of the world!

Thanks guys. I have used a skydome from the warehouse and I am pretty happy with the result. For some reason the skydome is semi-transparent. Does anyone know of a way to keep the sky of the skydome but make it opaque?

      Thanks again,

    • Edge of the world!

Is there an easy way to add a sky background dome for your model to sit in?

My issue is that at the moment when you view the model you can see the edges of the terrain upon which the model sits. It looks like the edge of the world. Could you create a dome and import an image of the sky giving the model a more realistic feel?

      Thanks!

    • RE: Error?

The animation is a few minutes long around 1000 frames, being exported in PNG format. I have 4GB RAM?

      Is 4GB just not enough?

      Thanks Remus!

      Hi all,

I am trying to export an animation but it keeps coming up with the following Runtime error message:

      Program:C:/PROGRA~2/Google/GOOGLE~1/SketchUp.exe

Any ideas as to why this is happening or how to fix it?

      Thanks in advance,

    • Problems importing a JPG

      Hi all,

I am building a model with quite a few imported JPG's. They have all worked fine except for the last one. For some reason the image is importing showing only blues and greens. The JPG looks fine when in Photoshop but for some reason changes in SU. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas??

      Thanks in advance,

    • Animation

      Dear All,

I am currently trying to make an animation of my model using Premier Elements 7. I have followed a very helpful tutorial and made a sample animation using only 3 scenes and got great results. However I am now trying to produce a 20 scene animation, each time I try to export the animation as tiffs the export fails.

Any ideas as to why and what I can do to fix it?

      Many thanks in advance!!

    • Where am I going wrong?

      Dear all,

I have only been using SU for a couple of months now but I have upgraded to working on a desktop as aposed to my laptop which was struggling.

I went for a triple core processor with 4GB RAM and an NVidia GForce 9600. However it was still not giving me the result I had hoped for. When orbiting the model, many of the components were still being shown as a boundary box and the animation was jerky and sluggish.

So I upgraded the graphics card to an NVidia Quadro 1700. Surely this would do the trick.

Afraid not. What I thought was a hardware issue may well be human error. The model I am working on at the moment is 28.9MB. I feel the answer may lie with layers? Am I right? Any tips? sadz
