When I created the rectangle with a photo by import, how can I change opacity of it? I tried Paint Bucket, and change opacity, but the layer did not change.

Now I clicked to the gray/white rectangle which is divided with two trianlges (Edit menu, upper right corner, third icon from top). Edit options are disabled and cannot to get it back (I clicked undo but this stayed disabled)...

And I click alt+click on texture to select it as material, but no, nothing changed in the Edit tab. In the Select tab "TESTERS" folder no files to see. There should be my files.

      1. What do you think to bring all to one level. Do you mean to create ground plane? Or do you mean to move rules to same level, which sound complicated but I tried yestearday. You will not believe but I did it more then 5 hours! I am gonna learn how to use scenes, coz views bad always theribly slow me down!

      2. Yes I used the arrows but in different cases. I try it especially with move tool. So do you say, that when I take the measurement tool (for resize object in this case), I must first
        A) check the plus sign is off (ctrl switch)
        B) the left or right arrow is pressed to force the horizontal axis
        Then I can start measuring/scaling.

      3. I use the inference lock always when I work with inference

I don't know if the model is from GE. I measured the image and it does not fit. The model is too bad in detail and in height, so I am going to crate new one. I resized the GE photo yesterday, and I will use 2 more plans for it. So I gonna create 4 layers for those.

"Google imagery sampled" - what and how? Some tool by Google?

"If not Google, try to draw a big face below your castle. Considerably below so that the geometry does not touch. Now select all the bottom edges of your castle and make them a group. "
I did group of the plane, which is ground plan... but this was just for check.
My big pitty here was the fact that rules were hidden with section plane, so I needed to create new copy of the ground plane/basement of castle (needless?)...

DRAPE TOOL - ok I will check it

I am not from Switherland to do the mesurement and event don't have mesuring aparature. I counted height of buildings from shadows lenght. The model (especially towers) was at least 2x heigher then it should be...

Hiding - I do it through layers - I wanna larn how to hide object in active layer... link?

I gonna to build every one building and group it, because this way it will be much more usable then in the state as the model is now (ungrouped).

I gonna try the scenes now and learn if you send link for hiding object in active layer.

Thanks. In the meantime of my reading, here is your translation for the story.

Rumcajs for cuckoo get at prison nearly. The banbit Rumcajs has counted how long he will live... When the cuckoo stopeed cuckoo, he wanted to find he to make he more cuckoo...
Then some (magician or surveyor) tries to kill the cuckoo and Rumcajs stops him to kill her.
Then surveyor tries to do some measurements on the rock and owners of the rock (Manka and Rumcajs) does not like it.
The woman asks the man what does he do there and why did he says anything. The surveyor says that the rock is of king of Praque and that the king wants to build a castle on that rock. Rumcajs said, it is not possible coz in Jicin masonries are free of work ("fajrum/fairum") at Saturday.
Then the magician had prisoned Rumcajs. Manka ask how to open the lock. The story is finished with the free of Rumcajs and cuckoo had counted how long Rumcais will stay alive...

If two guidelines intersect itself in different level (it is unwanted effect coz I want them to be same level, but in for case...) when I measure by Tape from one intersection point to another... I have parallel view on. How can I prevent that the starting or ending point would be in incorrect level? To be exact, I measure distance on a shape with a texture. So I measure if the texture is correctly sized. But if the points would be not on same level, so it will measure wrong. How to prevend it in the case that I have the guides like so?

Yes, that is that what I tried few times. I succeed to create one guide line, but only one, not much success. I must train.

I try to add guidline using tape (click and drag from red axis)

I hope you don't mind I will not create new question for this. But this is related with importing object to create plan under the castle. Mz problem is that I need to change visibility of the component or layer to cca 35% because when I want to ad the plan under it, I cannot see how I position it. So I ask if it is possible to do it.

OK, I learned how to move them to different layer and how to hide them in Entity info box. I had seen in video, that the guy used hidding of objects very quickly in scenes video, but did not explain it how he did it.

One more problem with that guidelines. Now I tried to hide the castle and I realize that when I change to different layer to hide the layer 0, so the guides, which I created will disappear πŸ˜„ So I need to clone the guide lines from layer 0 to active layer... Is that possible?

(The side side of the castle is not parallel to green x axis. And I could not to do it like in the post,

coz the guide would be not be parallel to green axis (it would intersect the green axis and then go to the point = not parallel).

I believed that I have to select it and use move tool, but I was not succesfull to select it. I think the problem is that it was a part of group or what? I triple click to object to open it and edit... then. OK, done. Thanks.

How can I move the guide line? Also how can I draw make parallel guide to a guide. I have drawn guide according red axis and now I want to either move it or just copy it and move or to draw a parallel guide, which will be in the same level as the original guide.

OK. Thanks. I see one point which I did not see before. I must be in view when the red axis in horizontal position,

So I moved and rotated the object

And now the image is displayed in correct rotation.

When you import an image and apply it on a back face, it will be mirrored. So first you need to right click on the face and "reverse" it.

OK, that was good. But I don't want to revese the image every time. I think this is not the answer I wanted to hair. The problem is, that the image always is displayed in odd direction and I believe, this behaviour must be set so I will save my work with texture positioning.

I open help page here and there are some good tips, which sounds good to use:

      http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=94881&topic=2458148&ctx=topic

However I have a problem in point 10. (I had draw the image into rectangle, but did not succeed to place it on the cylinder... but that is not the biggest problem) the problem is by point 10, when I click so in the context menu the option use as material is not available.

      PS:
Importing image this way seems definitely better way then drawing it onto rectangle!

    • Texture

I have a file in which I have a model. I need to give a photo with plan under it. I draw rectangle and filled it with a texture of photo/plan. However, always (not only in this file) I have the problem that the texture is displayed in incorrect position, like it is 90Β° turned and it is flapped. So the texture does not fit the model. I also have a feeling like there is some deformation or what. What I did was that I clicked Paint Bucket, clicked add material, clicked Browse and select my file. I also try to fix the position with rotation or resizing the texture with ration lock on. But this does not help much because still it is flipped so what should be on left side is on right side, like in mirror. I want always when I click face, to have the image right.

What Box said is a general rule of thumb: before asking a lot of questions is good to do some search. There are tons of video tutorials on the net and also here. For example:
      [attachment=0:1s0pbc1z]<!-- ia0 -->Cattura.JPG<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:1s0pbc1z]

I was on that page, but I could not see that. There is so many threads in tutorial section in the forum, and no one of the threads, which I read contains usable tutorial for me. What I try to say is, that If I open site I look first of all for video tutorials. But I had seen any. So probably you should do something with it, because it is bad visible.

      Same problem with http://www.sketchup.com/
I think that when I installed the program, there was link to video tutorials or what was it. I don't remember exactly. I clicked it and searched where are the videos... And nothing found. I had seen no "Tutorials" in their navigation, just education, which was not what I should need so I closed the window.

The simple answer to your many questions is, watch some videos, learn about SU, make a few models and then ask some questions.

Learn a bit about the program before you start asking endless questions. and I mean that in the nicest possible way.

So many posts, and too many nice people. Get off your arse and learn something.

When I came here I did not know where to learn. Sorry that just learning and viewing images is not enough to understand well. I did not had found any video tutorials even that I had been on SU site. Next time, when somebody comes with basic question, it would be great idea to send direct link to video tutorials of SU. It will save our time!
