    • Rethinking the integration of Layout into Sketchup

This may sound way outside the box but way back when you first introduced Layout, I was conflicted with a while new set of commands and file organisation --not to mention the then challenge of integration between Sketchup and Layout...

Now 15 years on I suppose its all easier but its also getting easier and easier to replicate what you get in Layout --in Sketchup itself.

Minus such as the ability to control specific line weights and color in good detail, text placement--along a dimension string and a few others, you already are 3/4 the the way home with integration of both programs into one more comprehensive Sketchup program. Viz., good 2d projection and visualistion control, many 2d extensions, access to all types of rendering engines--and some initial attempts at least at line type, width control and colorisation...

I personally would really welcome such a move but please elucidate me on why it is either too too complicated and or expensive to now take the final few steps of integration of Layout into Sketchup as one integrated program.

You have argued that it would be too complex and expensive in the past but the continued explosion of good extensions seems to be closing the gap.

      Thanks for your elucidation:

    • 2d fonts lost with system upgrade to 10.13.6( high sierra)

I am using skp 2015 pro. With a recent upgrade to system 10.13.6 (high sierra) on my 13 " mac laptop (vintage 2011), all my fonts save one, have been lost, although they remain readily available on all other programs.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

    • RE: Round Corner Issues

DAVE R SCORED A HOMER ¡ Thanks. It was not a scaling or side count issue nor was it a round versus bevel edge choice, Nor was I correct in assuming the 2d plane to 3d surface limitation for round corner. It was simply that the intersection had to be cleaned of any hidden extension of in my case the smaller cylinder as it passed inside the larger cylinder . Not only Dave, was it necessary to clear the extended cylinder geometry but also-and critically, to clear out the filled curved disk created on the interior surface of the larger cylinder as well. I hope that all other well intended advisors for round corner, please also mention this critical subtlety or erasing all internal geometry before attempting round corner, to their readers. Dave, just for closure, If you don't mind, please tell us how you came to this conclusion . Thanks all for giving it a go and I hope what I;ve learned the hard way will be passed on to all who may run into the same problem.

    • RE: Round Corner Issues

re filleting of two intersecting cylinders in round corner; This may explain why I am uno le to fillet intersecting curves.

Fred notes that round corner creates (fillets or rounded or beveled edges) corners between 3d objects and 2d surfaces:

note early into explanatory paragraph: ....3d shapes along a 2d profile

How you are achieving this by your recommend scaling action, must have to do with tricking the filled round to the next faceted ( 2d) surface of the mating 3 d object i.e. the other cylinder.
      IS this making any sense?

    • RE: Round Corner Issues

      Hi Tuna,
Ok, I just tried reduce segments of the intended fillet to 4 ( down from 24) on both the scaled up image and the original image ; I then tried using ' bevel' for fillet instead of round fillet. Am still getting same error message yellow grow red hashed circle. Tried changing edge filter from line to dashed to hidden; no luck . I then tried changing angle intersect tolerance from the given 30 deg to +/- 10 deg; No luck there either.
If it is working for you and not of me then its is something different in our OS or fredo. By the way, I can easily still us round corner for end rounding and even filet on intersect of a cylinder with a flat plane whether normal, or inclined to the cylinder. It seems to have to do more with the compound curving ring generated by the intersect of a round surface with another rounded surface, not a scaling issue not a curve segment issue thus far at least...Thanks for sticking with me on this .

    • RE: Round Corner Issues

Tuna thanks for that trip it but no luck same yellow arrow red hashed circle saying invalid corner (at least not with the (four corners not two message through). I made a component of the smaller 4" & 6" tubes scaled the copy up to 16" and 24" did respectively, exploded the image, with hidden geometry on then intersected edges with selection, then attempted round corner again. same problem. Have included the settings for round corner fyi. Thoughts ?

    • RE: Round Corner Issues

Am trying Round Corner and cannot seem to get it to fillet the intersection of two intersecting cylinders whether at 90 deg or off angle. I explode both and intersect faces to get this result with hidden geometry on, offset set at ½" with the smaller cylinder dia of approx 6" :

Round corner will nicely round the ends of the cylinders but it will not fillet the intersection of them. Same thing happens when intersecting any curved surface with another curved surface... In every case, I get the red hashed circle and yellow arrow saying "invalid not 2 faces but four".

running a macbook pro with OS hi Sierra with a very recent download of Fredo 6 on skp pro 2016.
      Help

    • RE: [Plugin] Super Drape

Yjmls Yog for suggesimg that I had to further explode the drape objects and the potential draped object but that was not the problem. I discovered that the problem was my own lack of patience.
For me at least SD is not immediate but only gradually transfers the material: It first downloads the outline of yhe draped object, then slowly imprints the material content of the draped image onto that outline.. I draped the word "text object" (out of SKP's 3d text tool) onto a simple curved cylnder surface/ ( It took about 30 sec.) The material infilling then followed (It took another 45 sec..and occurred in sequence...Just a heads up for other users who are expecting an immediate transfer .. My SKP pro 15 and memory etc are all otherwise good and as fast as expected when using other elements of skp.

      TIG,
      I seem to be well outside the user learning curve here;
Have read ad reread the process for super drape and your more recent suggestion to explode and then re group to no avail.
Am running os 10.11 and skp 2015 pro.

it s simple brick pattern image set just over a z axis-distorted rectangular surface

    • RE: [Plugin] Proper Animation V1.08 Beta(Updated 14/11/10)

      Hello Moris,
Up until Proper animation. I have been limping getting along by erasing selected positions per any selected scene but it was a nightmare to set up.
Proper animation really offers a lot.
Am hitting a wall with Proper Animation in some respects though and I'd appreciate more details about proper animations operation in relation to sketchup's own quasi animation controls.

      1. What is the relationship of it to sketchup's own animation controls: For example, does Proper animation override the other or is it a parallel function or a subset of it. (eg; scene transition time or delay times, or update scene versus your set position.
      2. Animation easing this refers to what appears to be the degree of acceleration or deceleration of the transition between scenes.
      3. Am trying to achieve a continuous smooth flow through the scenes without a distinct stop point on each scene. (Pls note too, that I am not trying to change directions between scenes in the attached animation of the express-local train concept). I can approach fluidity with your easing control but its still not a smooth transition between scenes. Sketchups "0" marker for scene delay versus your "-1" notation as the baseline leaves me guessing as to what is really the no-stop position at each scene. No subdivision of 1 is allowed and anything higher only delays it longer. What settings then, best assure fluidity ? and again, do we use Proper Animation's menu options and then ignore Sketchup's options or make them the same or ??

Proper Animation will be a great addition if we can understand the operational relationships/ heirarchy between it and Sketchup's inbuilt quasi animation controls.

      Thanks, RStanley

Still nothing turns up on the sketchup window

its great hearing about all the happy souls using Fredo. Wish I could join you. Instead like many I am unable to get the plug in to work ---at all.

I am seeing the fredo download in my left most sketchup /preferences/extensions menu but it still spits out large error messages about being unable to read certain LIb and other files.
      Here's the exact error message:
      Error Loading File bezierspline.rb
no such file to load -- libtraductor.rbError Loading File Z__loader.rb
      undefined method `effective_load' for nil:NilClassError Loading File /Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 7/SketchUp/Plugins/FREDOSCALE_Dir_20/__loader.rb
uninitialized constant Traductor::Plugin::MYPLUGINError Loading File ZLoader__FredoScale.rb
      uninitialized constant Traductor::Plugin::MYPLUGIN

Other plug ins are working fine, (including bezier spline) ...

Have followed the instructions given by TIG to a "T" .
Is there anything I am missing seriously ??? The Fredo guy mentions having to install the Fredo round corner plug in to get it to work. Ok , but where is that ? Substantive help needed thanks

TIG, have done so for the .LIb files and still no luck...
I downloaded the zip file titled LibFredo6–3.4czip Folder, which i opened and moved directly and completely into the Sketchup plug-ins folder ---It has expanded out to unveil the referenced .lib files. These all reside at the same level of all the other FredoScale files and Fredo scale resides at the same level as a few other plug ins that I have managed to load successfully.
This one is fighting back...thoughts ?

    • Fredo Scale not installing

I'm running Mac Os 10.5.3 with Sketchup 7 and have tried several times to load FredoScale into the application support google sketchup/sketchup plugins folder to no avail. Heres the error message I'm getting:

      uninitialised contstant TraductorError Loading File
      ZLoader_Fredoscale.rb
      no such file to load-LibFredo6.rb

It does not turn up in the preferences folder for sketchup either...
      Ideas anyone ??
