How are you drawing this? It looks as though your planes are triangulated already.
Are you drawing it with the sandbox grid?

No, I am using simple poly modeling (as some times reffered to)....there is a simple set of video tutorial after the jump: http://cid-4a6ec86d99895c84.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/SketchUp%20Files/Tutorials.zip

      Here is a quick update:
      ford mach II red.jpg

      Progress includes:
      Front window and trim
      Rear window and trim
      Rear lid and vents
Rear Bumper (Basicly(just using the outline for the poly's arround it))

      Overall progress is about 15-20%

If anyone can find a really good refference image of the mag wheels for this car that would be great, I dont know what theay are called.

      Thanks all for the comments.

Well, I found some very rare blueprints and decided to build it. It is a one off Ford concept to replace the Thunderbird. It is largly based off the Mustang and even shares many components with it.

I think that would be a great idea. A sensible car always attracts people to vehicle brands. Like when I first started modeling vehicles under the name Trojan, it was all super cars and sports cars. Then I made a sedan and an SUV and they got a hugh amount of positive responses. I think a sedan or even a estate would be good for you. Maybe even a little "run about". πŸ˜‰

Hey Ray or GreenToaster, do you know how to use that smooth function. It baffels me totally.

[1] select the geometry you wanna smooze
[2] with screen cursor over selected geometry, right click, pick "Soften/Smooth Edges"

Thanks for the help but I actually meant the one in the sand box (i thought you were talking about that one) πŸ˜‰

Hey, cool model! It looks like you've put a lot of work into keeping it low-poly, but also including the right amount of detail where needed. Good eye. Still, it would be kind of hard to get into...

Well, I do try to keep they poly count to a reasonable level although I'm known for not going "all out" with use of poly's or using the add detail feature. I find it makes the surfaces strangely contoured by adding lots of pointless poly's.
At the moment it has no door handles, I usually leave them for luckey last if thats what you mean. πŸ˜„

As soon as I can I will upload a video of how to....

For this model I based it on a Ford so I used the cars blueprints. Most of the time I use existing blueprints or ones I make, usually poorly made but do the trick. πŸ˜„

    • RE: [REQUEST] Car Tutorial

It depends on how you wish to make the car. I have a "build from blueprints how to". There are many ways to build from blueprints but this is just one of them. You can download the blueprints setup and build from blueprints videos from my skydrive:

Hi all. This is my first post so I decided to include some rich content.

Here is my latest work in progress, It is inspired by Ford of Europe's older models such as the Taunus. It is about 70% done after approx 15 hours, on and off, and is looking really good.
