Fletch / Kim, this looks great. Fine idea. Nice price. Only one question.... does this mean you're parting ways from Giannis and Thea Render?

Richard revisited (Pencil sketch style)
Hi All
Back in 2005/06 there was the Dennis thread, a 480 post mammoth in the old SketchUp forums. Dennis showed us how to do quick sketchy/watercolour style output using multiple images saved from SU into PhotoShop. But burried in that massive thread someone called Richard did a great pencil only image, which we called the Richard technique. Not sure if he ever managed to work out afterwards how he did it though! If you're still out there Richard, could you give us any tips?
Here's a sketch I'm working on. Just lines so far. Any suggestions and comments much appreciated.

Watercolour roman soldier (WIP)
I'm trying out some techniques for historical illustration. This is just sketchup output and GIMP. Helmet downloaded from 3DW. Any comments appreciated.

These are fabulous examples. How long did it take you to clip round the leaves? -
RE: VRay for SketchUp Help
Hi Steve
A couple of easy suggestions, but looks good already:
- Have you rendered with a global illumination preset or raytrace? GI gives better light and shadow distribution. I don't know what the settings are with Vray though.
- Set up a sky-dome or insert a sky image in the background
- Spending some time on the window frames/lintels would make a big difference
- Stick some room images behind the windows to simulate a real room
- A couple of 2d people and plants to add life
- The shadow on the left is possibly a bit invasive. Can you go to nearer midday?
As I said, it's a great start, and you'll have it top notch in no time

RE: Tutorial for sketchup 7.0 and Pepakura Version 3 problems
Hi Derrick
Thanks for your tutorial. I'll be sure to follow it when I'm next using PPK One point for people to note when buying PPK is that the paid for version is still limited. They try to get you to pay more for higher resolution textures, so be sure to check out their website properly before buying to see if this is ok for you.

RE: Construction advice please: RSJ's
Hi Andy
Using a 10mm end plate and 10mm toe plate is a very easy and fairly standard way to go. Use M20 Grade 8.8 bolts as shown at 70mm or 90mm spacing. Otherwise use 90x90x10 RSA or similar angle (RSA = Rolled steel angle).
Hope that helps you out
Kind regards

RE: Russian President Medvedev Shows Off Coin New World Currency
Coen
This is really interesting. You're exactly right. For example: Ireland voted out the new EU treaty, so what do we do? Just get them to vote again! That's like I used to be as a kid: Toss the coin, and if I don't like the answer, toss again.
The reason for me posting is just to make the point that the Bible said this would happen, and the outcome isn't great. It's probably the most well known, feared, and misunderstood verses in the Bible, but it's simply talking about the result of a single currency (namely complete power to the ones who control it):
Rev 13:16 "He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name."
The likely outcome is that a global single currency will be introduced soon combined with some sort of ID card, or even a barcode. Identity cards are being trialed in the UK as we speak.

RE: Some WIP exhibition stands I've been working on
Hi Puck
Great modelling. I don't know what it is though, but these images come accross like a grey rainy day. Maybe it's the darkness and grey background? Any one else who can suggest how to fix this with post processing?
Apart from that, really excellent!

RE: Salon solariego
Hey Roberto. That's very nice work, great lighting and soft shadows. What renderer and settings did you use?

RE: .quick house. updated**
Hi Jason
I just had a quick go at your method using SU's own textures. Is this how you did it?
And after the adjustments you mentioned:

RE: .quick house. updated**
This is gorgeous. Just right for the type of building imo. I'd love to know how you managed the stone texture? Is it a combi of two images in photoshop?

RE: New Star Ship
Hi Chris
Nice work. Can you re-render this without textures (just plain colours)? The repeating textures make it a little difficult to see the form of your model.
Look forward to seeing it

RE: PhotoSketch Plugin out
Hi Burkhard
Please could you give me a couple of lines on why we should pay for this rather than just using photomatch or other free plugins? What's the main benefit and who would used it?
Thanks

Selecting a Photo-real Renderer
One of the biggest things to watch our for when trying out rendering software is: does it handle Global Illumination? Global illumination is where light hitting a surface bounces and creates its own reflected illumination. If you don't have this capability it's much harder to create a realistic scene. GI has been around for a long time, yet some renderers still can't do it.
How to check GI capability
The way to check for sure is to grab this simple sketchup scene and give it a go. The room is completely enclosed apart from a window. Sun coming through the window will strike the wall, and in the real world would illuminate the rest of the room due to secondary bounce of the light: Global Illumination.
But if your renderer can't handle it, you'll get the following:
This may not look so pronounced because a fill light could be being used, but you'll be able to tell by the uniformity of the lighting.

Contemporary interior with mountain view
A completed project done using Sketchup for the scene setup, then Kerkythea to add in the entourage and render. This was posted on the KKT forum for a critique. They're really helpful over there! (http://www.kerkythea.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7523) Any comments happily received.
