    • RE: How to set "default" text style in Layout

I should have mentioned it, but yes, the Tekton Bold is resident in both computers. The computers are set up identically - though one is an iMac and one is a Mac pro. Also same version of operating system - snow leopard.

      It's a strange.

I have found a lame work around - I select all the view-ports on a page so that the entire page is highlighted and then select Textron as the font - and it changes them all. Problem is that I have to be sure to make sure all the text size is the same.

      Thanks

    • How to set "default" text style in Layout

      Mac user Sketchup Pro 8:

I know how to set the text style in Sketchup - window> model info>. Can't find the equivalent in Layout.

I can make a template and that works great for a new Layout files, but....

I use two computers to work on the same file (not at the same time - the computers are in different locations in the house). I can create a nice Layout document using a nice text style (Tekton Pro Bold). Save the file and quit the program. Perfect - no problem. Can work on the file on original computer that created it and the text always displays correctly.

When I open the same Layout file on another computer either by accessing the file across my network or by copying the file to the different computer, the text styles are not correct - the displayed text defaults back to the Layout default style (Helvetica Bold). I can't find a way to globally change the text to the preferred style.

If I work with the Layout file on the original computer that created the file, no problem - the text displays correctly.

I guess I simply want Layout to always use Tekton Pro Bold and never Helvetica - which seems to be hard coded into Layout somehow. There should be a way to set the default text and/or insure when a file is opened (created on a different computer) the text style is the one originally specified.

Any suggestions are appreciated - thanks!!

    • First "Dennis Method" sketch

New to sketch-up - great community. Here's a concept for a cabin in the lakes region of New Hampshire. I tried the Dennis Method and it came out great as an informal concept presentation. I've got a lot to learn, but this forum makes it easier...

      Thanks all.

    • Help with walls and views - Please

Kind of tough to explain. Say I'm in a 3d space I've designed, a house for instance. When I'm rotating and moving around for different views, if I back into a wall, the view changes to the inside of the wall - but the scale on my mouse wheel also changes so I can't get out easily and are usually forced to go to camera and zoom extents - then try it all over again. Same when using walk around.

Bottom line - I'd like to move freely in space I've created and "bump" into walls to prevent me from backing into the middle of the wall. In other words, I'd like to limited or bounded to prevent me from entering the wall or floor or ceiling. That way if I zoom out, or back up, I'd hit a wall and know I couldn't move back further.

I've gotten around this by hiding walls, but that's awkward. I'd simple like the mouse to act like a person and be bounded by walls and floors and ceiling, etc...

Sorry if I haven't explained it well.

      Thanks...

    • Newbie Question - importing .3ds file

Just discovered sketchup - great program!! But I have a question. I generated a 3d model in Autocad (architectural desktop 3.3). I exported the model as a .3ds file. After importing a .3ds file in sketchup - the sketchup version has lines on the surface of the walls and random colors applied to section of the walls. They must be some kind of construction lines and shades generated in autocadd. If I explode the sketchup model, I can select each line and delete them, but it's tedious. Is there any way to import my model more cleanly? I tried importing the .dwg and .dfx files, but many of the drawn walls and lines are not visible in sketchup so I believe .3ds is the way to go. I have attached a sample of the sketchup model.
