      Thanks Guys!!!

As Brodie points out (and sorry mate - obviously not on your list of favourites now! dam! hehe) the circles do tie in with the intro checkmark! That was the logo I came up with for the client.

I was uncertain if the circles would be distracting and might well look at minimising them. As you suggest Plot it would be nice if I could tie them better into the transitions but yes not sure how! It would be nice if I could sweep the images in with them but man flash is hard enough to do anything with I'm finding without being "Eddy the Expert"!

Brodie the animation was put together with Flash CS3 which as I mention is really clunky for my liking!

I did my own portfolio in PowerPoint and it came up OK though can run clunky on older machines.

I'd like to know if there are any easier to use flash compliers that work better on a timeline!

      Cheers, Richard

You need the game to see the model, and it is not like a walkthrough. Its more like turning tour model in to a game level, so you could have multiple players log in and walk around together, drive through it, fly through it,etc. They could even kill eachother in it if you allow them. But the idea is that these games have such good real time rendering and physics engines, that is makes a great way to share a model (with other people who have the same game platform). Though many of the games the map editor work with are pretty cheap, and only getting cheaper.

      Chris

Hmmmm! Maybe one day I'll have to try a game other than space invaders! Seriously yes it's been that long! You guys probably aren't even old enough to know what that is! Mike (Mayor) Lucey jump in and help me out here! No really I've played GP4 but cant work out how one would get the F1 car through the door of a skippy model.

That is nice work Richard, Congratulations.
Can you put that on a website?

Thanks mate! The SWF file can be embedded on the website or this file hosted and downloaded. I thought about making it interactive but I find myself if its going to run through there is little reason I think! Plus I haven't actually worked that out yet! Flash is just not intuitive to me AT ALL!

    • First Flash slide show animation!

I've produced my first Flash slide show animation. Not a great lover of the flash workflow as opposed to a timeline video editor like sony vegas as it feels really clunky.

This file is a self supported type so it can play in fullscreen mode - not sure what the proper term for it is?

The thing that amazed me is the low file size (this one 3.4mb as SWF or 5.77 in the posted format) v's an avi file that would weigh in at over 70Mb i'd imagine!

Would love some feedback from anyone with flash content creation experience as I feel what I've done could still use some improvement.

Best saved to HD before viewing I think - or might even be necessary! warning 5.8Mb file!

Does Crysis have a good game editor? I have the game, but dont play it because my video card is just a little too slow for it. But it might be worth it if the game editor is worthwhile...

      Chris

Yes it has a good editor called sandbox2 ( note:sandbox1 was the editor of Far Cry 1).
If you bought Crysis after februari 2008 you should have the latest built of the editor on the DVD ROM, but you could also download it from the official website.

Unfortunaly sandbox2 doesn't let you import SU straight away but you could use the 3DsMax or the Lightwave plugin as a bridge. It is tedious though....
A real 1 one 1 Sketchup to game engine should be a much better solution. I hope there will be one for the Far cry 2 engine (= Sandbox3 ?).

Wish you stuck with english sometimes! hehe!

Just wondering how this would then be viewed? Can you export an animated walkthrough? can you share the walkthrough without the game? Can you set the walkthrough or is it viewer operated?

I'd love to see someone come up with a better animation export from SU models. I like the idea of texture baking like fry.

I have to agree with the others these images being from Podium are exceptional!!!

the vegetation is particularly good! I'd like to ask are they all clips added pre or post processing. I also agree that some peeps would help give scale!

I've come up with an idea to achieve good grass without the use of disp, by using two planes 5-10mm vertically separate, the upper plane using a clipped map for the grass so as to give the appearance of grass blades higher than the under level. I'm still playing with this idea and haven't got it right yet but closer anyway!

Indeed that is an interesting idea Richard.
I suggest for the upper plane to pick the same texture for the clip map as you would use for a displacement map.
(maybe after leveling it in Pshop as it will need some pure black dots in it for full 'clip').
Curious how that would end up. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Yeah I've been trialling with the bump map pushed to full contrast. maxwell needs pure white to clip properly. I think if a lot of attention is given to how this map and the bump work together may produce some great results!

Hmmmm? Mate I'll look at that - always concerned as to where I accessed the maps in the first place! I like to respect the will of the publisher not to repost maps!

Troy, mate I have steered really clear of diplacement with maxwell given the huge increase in render times!!!

That last image really shocks me! I would suggest using the sandbox from grid tool to create a plane that is well subdivided and place it to the grassed area and paint this with your grass MXM. I know surfaces need to be well subdivided to get good results with displacement.

      Yeah sorry Pete!

Man you're going to fast! Slow down - take a valium and make some more reditions of your first few, some nice promise with a few of those pieces! The sun bed is also looking sweet, maybe a framed strapped or woven version there would be really nice! Wouldn't mind some of these going away from mono pieces and incorporating support to lighten and break them up!

hey what is going on with the marble stool mate???? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

      Nice idea pete!

My opinions, harsh at times sorry!

      1. Not liking this one bit too heavy and over complicated.
      2. Too high and not striking enough to dominate furniture hights above the norm. Think egg chair - gets away with it!
      3. Like this one though feel the base rim could be removed and the weight of the base volume reduced. Think rattan would be nice finish.
      4. Sorry not loving it, for me too much detail and movement in the skin, and maybe too much depth and height in the back.
      5. This is very similar to the one done by a young Australian designer nut I can't remember his name! I like it though, might benefit of the portals being bigger.
      6. The sofa, Hmmm, ditch the hard edge framing of the billows IMHO.

Again sorry if this sounds harsh though you were after feedback!

      Cheers, Richard.

    • RE: SU>Maxwell Renders

      Thanks Troy

Yes mate pretty much all of the renderings are rendered direct from SU using maxwell!

The grass in all images is just a two BSDF layer MXM material. Layer 1 grass colour map and grass bump, layer 2 grass colour map and a bulk bump map to get some greater variance in the material.

The trees are a bit varied. In the first images they are just clips added in PhotoShop post rendering. In the townhouse render they are the Xfrog free version bought into SU as 3DS and much of the branches and foliage removed.

You will note that I tend to prefer forground trees to not be displayed in the render but set to cast shadows. I tend to like this method as it maintains the architecture as the context of the render whilst still providing a feel of vegetation being in scene!

Mate I have to be honest I'm not really seeing what you are trying to show in your posted image, which could be what you are suggesting that it just isn't working for you!

Feel free to ask for any ongoing assistance to get you up and running!

    • RE: Day and night render of a dwelling - Podium

Like mateo suggested I think the night shot is too dark, the interior could probably be brighter too.

Although I get crit for not putting cars in scene, when they sit in the main focus of the image they really grab my attention. Maybe if the car colour was more inert it wouldn't be so distractive.

I think the forground tree is a bit of a let down to your otherwise great image also. I would suggest trying one of the tree beibel created with my old "tree factory" file, and made them ready to use in podium. the leafs hang a little better!

Look forward to see if you push these a little further!

      Hey Brodie

I'd probably use cutouts or 3d plants with edges all hidden to suit the same way as you have added the peeps. For me I'd probably keep the car out though and use darker shadows and possibly use a slightly lighter line.

Also make good use of scenes!!!!!!!!

I usually have a few pages set to manage my layers and put me in wireframe before doing to much navigation in large models. Using a shortcut to textured or hiddenline mode can quickly set you back to the display mode you want!

BTW all! Profiles? Does anyone ever use profiles? I think I turned them on a few years ago and didn't like them at all! ๐Ÿ˜•

    • RE: Scale tool

I've requested this functionality from @last for some years now throughout bouts of beta testing!

How I would consider the functionality to work is that upon creation of the nested components the user can define the non scalable axis of the component. In the case of a window as exampled each of the bounding elements would need to be a separate component with each having non scalable attributes. I can personally see hundreds of applications for this functionality.

Another example might be say a grid of lights where the user might import a component containing a grid of light fittings say 3 x 2 fittings and scale them to the room. The fittings would be set as no scalable in all x,y,z axes therefore retaining their individual sizes yet the spacing obviously changes.

I do see windows as the ultimate use of this functionality though where for example a two panel window could be stratched to fit any space with the frame maintaining it's width and thinkness attributes!

Non scalable textures are also a functionality I've been pushing for a while too! Thereby any texture placed to an object (eg brick panel) doesn't scale as the component is scaled on any axis! At present one has to expode and regroup the component to effect the original texture tiling size!
