Mate I'm glad to see in the last images you turned the cars lights off, couldn't quite understand why they were on in the night shots.

I like your images though I can see some of the brick / stone work is suffering from bad tiling.

I think it might be worth reducing the saturation of your greenery particularly in the night shots, you could even add a blue evening filter to these!

I think you could also add a bit more variation to your path side small shrubs and dirty up the grass a bit generally!

Please also I'm not putting down the quality of your work but heck we can all improve. In fact I'll post a few of my own renders straight away and look for your suggestions!

      Cheers mate! Richard

Yeah...Richard is being his good old self. πŸ˜„
We should have live nude modeling sessions like painters have. A webcam on the model etc...

I bags doing the filming and taking measurements!

      Nice job Pete!

Mate however I can't help but think they are really dark in comparison to the sky you have used. I might have tried to get some sun angle on the windows at present for me they are looking rather cold! Would have imagined you would go for a sunny warm tropical feel!

      Nice work dan!

Though mate I see from these and some o your other images you need to lift the camera a bit or try to simulate a shift lens. The 3 point perspective is spoiling otherwise good work!

Mate nice job but I'd turn that tap off! Not sure why so many render artists do that - it's like just because they can they do!

To me a render is like taking a photo, how many times do you leave the water running when your taking a photo?? In the least if you are going to leave the water running turn the tap handle to "on" so it doesn't look like a really bad leak!

Very sharp, professional presentation, Richard. I'm curious, though, why you included an interior rendering of the lavatory. I would think potential clients would be more interested in seeing the living spaces.

Sorry mate the interiors are just photos of the builders recent houses. The photo's they gave me were so bad that out of about 40 I could use 4.

Btw mate I think we all think that the living area is what most want to see but most agents will suggest that the woman buys the house and want to see the kitchen and the bathroom.

I think the kitchen can be well demonstrated across the living area giving view of both.

Would like to have seen the client spring for internal renderings though with the package including 17 externals they wanted to keep the total cost down at this stage!

Great presentation Richard. In terms of software was this SketchUp / Photoshop / Maxwell / Word ?

Exactly mate! SU - modelling, Maxwell - rendering, photoshop - post edit of rendering, MS word - compilation!

Thanks to all for positive comments!

      Hey Richard,that looks great.
Both the renderings as the layout look quite professional.

      Thanks mate!

I ended up with 17 rendered facades out of this project. the client added a new floor plan this week based upon one of the prvious frontages. Luckily I had saved the MXI file and the material ID image. This meant I could open the MXI and adjust with the multilight feature to change the internal / external lighting and easily mask the materials in PS to create further variation to the facade to establish a new look in just minutes.

Mate I have to say the multilight feature of maxwell really is the one feature that keeps me drawn to it!

The client wants an animation (slideshow style) for their website now and have convinced them to spring for a few night > day fades meaning with the rendered MXI saved I can pull up the rendering at anytime and change them. Must admit this was the first time I realise the lighting in the saved MXI could still be edited with multilight!

Nice idea Richard and yes I too have to always reference the chart, more so in ACAD than SU but it would be a really helpful way of modelling accurately.

Yeah good stuff mate! you might check my math! πŸ˜’

    • Useful Script Idea

When modelling I'm continuously having to refer to a brick size chart and key numbers into SU.

      My thoughts are therefore that a script could do the following;

      1. Allow firstly user input of the modular brick / tile size (length, width and depth) and the joint width,

      2. The script auto generates a table that defines multiples of lenght based on this data for external faces (outside of bricks = [bricks + joint] x ? - [1 x joint]), internal faces (inside of bricks = [bricks + joint] x ? - [2 x joint]) and re-entrant faces (outside of bricks to inside or return corner = [bricks + joint] x ?), and heights ([bricks + joint] x ?),

      3. The script allows user to define table as library,

      4. The script hopefully by shortcut drawings a line, rectangle or scaling to dimensions set from the table where the user makes the selection with the mouse or arrow keys!

Not sure all this is possible or easy but consider it would be darn useful within SU!

      Any takers? Cheers Richard

    • Project Home Booklet

This has been a fun project that I thought I would share!

The commission included rebranding of corporate image name and logo for a builder who had dropped their project home side for some years, the reworking of a few of their original designs and the creation of some new ones. Also included was the creation of their range names, exterior styling and marketing copy and material.

I first presented the idea of a 300 x 300 booklet that I felt presented best but they opted for the bigger full A3 size for client presenation, though since completed they have asked how long and at what cost could we revert to my original format proposed. Some people just cant be told!

These images are firstly my original proposal (image compiled from individual page images - the internal and external renderings aren't the real ones just used for demonstration) and secondly their prefered page layout, even though I didn't get my way (which always gets my back up), it was still a fun project!

Regarding SU 7, maybe the silience is because the omnipotent Autodesk wants to swallow Sketchu into its cavernous maw. and make us all take out overdrafts to pay for it......

There was for so many years this exact fear, in fact it went deeper to the fear Autodesk would by @last and just bury SU altogether. I think that fear has passed somewhat, I really cant imagine Google now off loading SU to anyone! Although off loading the development of it could be a consideration!

Juju thanks for the eyes up on the script mate!

Yeah i'd like to see the split scene option included for although I feel the beauty of SU is the ability to model and compose scenes without split scenes I find so often it could save me having to change camera angles when placing objects in a scene!

But then again so many other features as you suggest could be included. I feel if the guys at google just don't get running on some major upgrades the flavour of SU may soon be lost!

It seems that Richard (see his low poly car thread) found a good balance between low polycount and good quality. Hopefully he'll share some of his tricks ...

Yeah mate, although you called your thread Low Poly it's still pretty high when the view the lineworked image you've shown!

Mate the tip I can give you is I mapped the detail! Colour, clip and weight! Lenghty process and fair bit of trial and error to date! Had to drop it this week but will continue on soon!

By the way my Low Poly version was 3,500 entities / 600kb file mapped! I'd suggest your Fiat would be up around 20,000+? Mind you I wouldn't be going so close up on my version though that said I'm not aiming to achieve that - they are aimed more for Arch scene fillers not subjects if you know what I mean! The thread http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=10730

BTW mate love the renders with the RC car!!!!
