RE: Size limits on 2D export
Turning off anti aliasing would probably help you export larger images, although i dont know how much it'll effect the quality of the final image.
Bit of a stab in the dark, but using another format like uncompressed jpg or png may also help, as my vague intuition is telling me theyre not as 'heavy' as tiff.

RE: How did you get started with SU?
I cant really remember to be honest, but i do remember my dad showing SU to me a year or two before i started using SU regularly (although i wasnt particularly interested at the time.)
My best guess is that it was a '3d = awesome' sort of thing. Browsing through the gallery here was pretty inspirational as well.

RE: A useful utility for copying multiple objects individually
Ken, probaly not as quick as the method discussed in the OP, but if you make the stuff you want to copy a component then right click it you can save it out to a separate file which you can then import in to your new model.

RE: Damn toolbars...
@khai said:
how hard would it be to create a ruby that creates a single floating toolbar containing all the tools installed in one panel?
install a new ruby, run the panel ruby to add the new tool... the panel floating so there's no workspace muckup..
just pulling this outta the air so don't take to seriously if it's a bad idea

I think that one goes in the 'nice in theory but doesnt work in practice' pile. The major flaw that comes to mind is scrambled ruby scripts which cant be modified in any way unless you can get hold of the original file, but then that rather defeats the point of scrambling it.
