    • Fredo6 plugins for schools

      Dear Sir/Madam,

First of all, thank you for creating the amazing Fredo6 tools! Personally, I consider these tools indispensable in SketchUp.

I am writing this message from my personal SketchUcation account. I have been working with your plug-ins for many years and I teach at Cibap vocational school for design in the Netherlands. I also regularly recommend your plug-ins to my students.

Recently, our school purchased the plug-ins for the computer lab where I teach (8 plug-ins for activation on 30 devices). However, we are currently encountering an issue that our ICT department has not been able to resolve.

When we activate the plug-ins under the admin account, they work correctly and appear to be activated. However, when students log in to the school computer using their own user accounts, the plug-ins are not activated for them.

How can we solve this issue? The plug-ins are intended for 30 devices, not for 30 users.

I hope you might be able to help us find a solution. I have prepared a great SketchUp lesson for our students that makes use of your plug-ins, so we would love to get this working.

I look forward to hearing from you. If it is necessary to get in touch personally, I would be happy to provide my contact details.

      Kind regards,
      Ramon

      Hello Fredo6,

Thank you for your response, and sorry for the confusion. By logging in, I mean logging in to the school computer. When students log in to our school computers, a new user profile is created in Windows with their own student number.

When I activate the plug-ins under the admin account, the plug-ins work normally and are activated. However, when a student logs in to Windows, the plug-ins are not activated under their individual user account.

We would like to avoid students having to activate the plug-ins themselves every time they use a school computer (if they even have the permissions to do so within our network). For us, the ideal solution would be that the plug-ins are automatically available for every student who logs in, without needing to activate them for each individual user.

I’m not sure if or how this would be possible.

      Hello TIG,

Thank you for your response. To clarify, this concerns the computers in my classroom. The plug-ins are installed on these computers and can be used in trial mode by all users who log in. FredoLib6 is also installed on these computers. I was planning to check the SketchUcation toolset this coming Friday, but I believe it is already installed as well, because when I activate the plug-ins under the admin account everything works fine.

I think the issue is related to the last point you described. When I activate the plug-ins under the admin account, they work and are activated. However, when a student logs in, a new user profile is created and under that user the plug-ins are not activated.

The solution for us would be that the plug-ins are automatically activated for all users who log in afterward. You want to avoid every student having to activate the plug-ins again each time they log in (if they even have the permissions to do so). However, we have not been able to figure out how to make this work.

      Thank you TIG,

I have just forwarded your information and the ICT colleagues will take a look at it. I’m not a CMD script guru myself either, so hopefully they can work with this information. As soon as I hear more from them, I’ll let you know so I can answer your questions.

@fredo6, do you see any possibility to modify the custom directory?

One of the ICT staff members has tried this, but so far it has not been successful.

I think this is exactly the problem indeed. It would be fantastic if this could be adjusted. We work in the computer lab on Windows 11.
