Your 'smart push pull' concept has the same potential to knock the old default Sketchup PushPull out of business.
1+ absolutely fabulous tool, a4chitect. thanks a lot.

same for me. sometimes it works with 3x3 control points. sometimes it doesn't. sometimes it just needs a restart. sometimes it needs a whole new file. and sometimes it doesn't work at all, no matter what I do (custom control point numbers don't seem to work at all anymore).
so I am afraid this script needs to be rewritten for SU 7.1
what a pity
if there was a way to retrieve the bitmap information, that might be a gread addition to the component spray tool
distribution by bitmap...
hi paan,
I think that is quite difficult, because SketchUp isn't ment to do such operations with textures. I am not a ruby coder though.
if you have got Adobe Illustrator there may be a workaround by importing the image, tracing it and then exporting as dwg. file. then you can import the dwg into SketchUp... haven't done it myself though.
oh, and in future it might be better to open up a new thread for such enquiries. that is a completely different topic after all. having it as a separate discussion would help others too, when they are looking to solve similar problems
you are welcome, koning

I'll have to add this one to my Duh! list.
when I use a calculator to do some maths, there is always the danger, that I completely lose the ability to do calculations myself... and only when I start typing in things like 1+2 I will realizing, that I became too dependent on technology.
and its often the same with rubies...
or just select one edge, copy it to the other side (Move + Ctrl), then type in how many divisions you want (e.g. 5/ ).
then select all the line segments on the side next to it and do the same again...
guys, that new idea of the 'convert groups to components' plugin sounds exciting. I wanted such a script ever since i first importet my first model from 3Ds...
can't wait to see some first results
damn, my hand is to small for Ctrl + Shift + H

(Although this should be something like "hide rest of model" and "hide similar" - i.e. toggle-able as sometimes you may need to work in other ways)
I've already got my keyboard shortcut reserved for that
(F2 = show/hide hidden geometry
F3 = perspective/parallel projection
F4 = show/hide rest of model
F5 = world axes/component axes )
two really useful things (I will write them again, even though I think both were mentioned before - but they would be so easy to implement and so useful):
the ability to change axes for groups as well. at the moment you can define component axes. that affects the bounding box as well.
for rectangular object even an option such as 'align axes to geometry' could be useful.
the second thing is an option to switch between 'world axes' and 'object axes' orientation.
imagine you draw a group or component, then rotate it at an odd angle. if you now enter this group and start drawing, and want to stay at a right angle to the geometry, you have to refer to inferencing, because the red/green/blue axes point another way. if you now switched to 'object based' axes orientation, it would be a lot easier to draw in this particular context. and creating groups/components would result in their bounding boxes being aligned to the actual geometry (as opposed to today, where they are aligned to the world axes...)
what do you think?
oh, and another thing just popped into my mind:
introduce the option to right click buttons to define specific tool parameters. that keeps the UI simple whilst giving us a whole new world of options.
in addition to that holding down your left mouse on a button could expand a 'sub-button-bar'. that would be very useful for a lot of rubies (half my toolbars are fredo's at the moment. imagine you could collapes all tools on surface to one button...)
thats true. still doesn't solve the line weight problem though. and dotted lines don't work either. and import of fillings would be nice as well (you know, a face with a standart hatch texture instead of importing hundrets and hundrets of hatch-lines... stuff like that.
basically, I want to be able to look at an imported drawing, as if I were looking on it in the CAD application itself...
(and of course thats more a dread than a request. for the changes to SketchUp, however useful they might be, are quite large)
you know, what would be really helpful? if SketchUp supported import of dwg/dxf drawings with lineweights and colours, faces and text.
I fight with understanding an imported drawing almost every day. because every dotted line, no matter whether very thin and in a light gray or thick and red... everything is reduced to a black mess of lines.
I always have to print out the drawing in order to understand what I see in SketchUp. so even from an environmental point of view it would be a good idea
I know this is asking for a lot, because linewheigt isn't supported in SU yet and different text sizes, and styles aren't a strengh of it either.
but it would make architects life so much easier...
fantastic plugin, Thom,
I already had my shortcut Ctrl+Shift+D assigned to the first cleanup-script. but the new one seems to be a lot more powerful. already worked well on models that lost lots of faces when cleaned up in the past.
about the threshold: do you think instead (or in addition maybe) to the manual input, would it make sense to have predefined settings, like 'high', 'medium' and 'low'?
cause adding nines to the 0.9999 isn't very intuitive... on the other hand. might be a bit too much...
thanks again for the plugin. cleanup is one of the tools that I use most. couldn't live without it!
have a nice weekend!
one of the most useful plugins indeed. especially when it comes to rendering, its so easy to add detail...

My favorite part is the little toolbar that pops up with buttons and options on it, and that I can save 2 presets that I commonly use.
cool, didn't notice that one. must have been blind! "doh"-moment
I just watched Quantum of Solace the other day. and the next day 'Never say never again'.
oh my god. the difference is so huge.
the old bond movies are like a story being told to you. all the actors 'play' charakters, the special effects create images that tell you, what is supposed to happen (they don't have to be realistic, you just need to grasp the idea). the whole story, the whole movie just is so naive and almost romantic, somehow very innocent and childlike. it feels like a stage play that doesn't take itself too seriously.
the new bond hits you right in the face from the first second, it hurtles along, barely giving you time to breath inbetween the outbursts of violence. and all that brought to the screen with stunning images and special effects, where you can't tell the difference between real and fake.
it seems to me that whereas the old movies tell the tale of James Bond, the new films show how it really happend. and that isn't restricted just to images and effects. it is the same with the character Bond. in the old movies we saw that superior, invincible cliche of a hero. in the new movies we find James Bond to be much more human. we start to understand how he became the man he is, we are even shown, that much of it is fassade, a shield to protect himself - from the cruelty of the life he lives in, the violence, the losses...
so now there are two completely different approaches. one tells you about James Bond, grasping the essence of it and painting a very stylised image. the other showing you James Bond, with every little detail, with dirt and scratches and imperfections.
I think it is for everyone to decide, which Bond he prefers.
I loved Jason Bourne - and I definitely love the new James Bond.
oh, yes: and Daniel Craig rocks!
hi Fredo,
in the last couple of releases Daniel S' fancy icons are not implemented anymore. but only the old ones... do you know why that is?
[Edit] ops.. never mind, just found them in the installation folder
thanks again for the great plugin []
isn't that beautiful? that a thread, dead for a year now, suddenly reawakes...
mind you, it is almost time to start discussing the next bond. after all, what I heard is, that they are going to start shooting it soon - in New York.
and it is likely that the Quantum Organisation is showing up again; only with a different villain.
well, Mr. White is still alive, isn't he?
in the material section I would like to see a few additions.
apart from better uv control and layered textures (these would be awesome!)
glossy materials would be really cool. they don't need a lot of rendering power, because they only have to show highlights (unlike reflections, that need a lot of machine power).
another one that would make SU images a far more interesting is roughness of a material. especially with transparent materials you could create frosted glass!

The only painful part of it is that you have to continuously hold down the shift key. It would be nice if Caps lock toggled the feature.
true, some sort of permanently locking a movement direction would be awesome at times (appart from locking it to the three main axes via the arrow keys)...
