After following the instructions in the windows 7 upgrade adviser I upgraded windows vista ultimate to windows 7. So far no issues. Sketchup and AutoCAD are working fine. I will need to get a new twilight license as that License is OS specific

RE: Red Bathroom
Imagine trying to clean the razor stubble out of that sink or soap scum...that would take an hour. And all those sharp edges in the bathroom makes me nervous. It's a nice render and all but the hair on the back of my neck is standing up just thinking about being in this room.

RE: Render B/W - for local art prize entry
Hope you don't mind me modifying your image, but as a former photography judge I always look for some focal point or something for my eyes to keep coming back to. If my eyes follow the perspective lines of the building to their vanishing point my eyes will essentially leave the frame of the photograph and be wondering in space. However if there is a visual focal point within the frame of the photograph my eyes will keep coming back to it. Essentially maintaining my attention. and to win a photography contest you must first Grab the judges attention IE with something that there can be no mistake and the eyes will immediately go to that location. As human we instinctively focus on other human beings. IE: if there is a picture of a wheat field alone and one of the exact same wheat field but the second one has a person in it. In the picture with the person our eyes will First see the person. In general our eyes are drawn to the color white also for this reason. "The whites of their eyes". Well your image just called out to me as a perfect example of a great image that would be even better of it had a human element to grab your attention and then allow you to keep your eyes within the frame pf the photograph.
Again I hope you don't mind

RE: Christ The Redeemer Competition, Rio - Podium Renders
Edson
Great looking project and renders. I particularly like "13_ConjuntoCima.jpg" It's one of those images that captures the magnitude of the space that photographs alone can not portray. It's humbling when you are in the presence of majestic spaces like this and you realize that we are but a tiny part of this universe, yet we have the power to do so much harm to it.
It's always a pleasure to see your work.

RE: Downloading files from the Internet using Ruby
I recall a video of Scott Lininger doing that with downloading data from an external server from sketchup and having that data create a 3d bar chart dynamically.
Maybe Scott could clarify the method used.

RE: Twilight render...
Just downloaded the demo....cooking my first twilight rendering. So far I really like the simplicity of this renderer and that it is fairly seamlessly integrated into SU. the intro price is such that I think I'd be silly not to buy it.
Any plans for future material presets or in general is there a method for adding more material presets easily....I guess I should read the instructions first ...but heck I always just start playing with toys right out of the box before reading the manual..

RE: Black or white?
My Preference is pure white. For the same reason mentioned above I like to see on screen what will be printed out on "white" paper. If I had my druthers in AutoCAD there would only be black lines on a white background. Just for kicks I also set my plot styles to display when in paper space. Man this freaks out people that did not know that was possible. They think the compute is going all whonky....I had someone call me all irate that I made all the lines black and this was going to screw up their plots....hehe. "err did you switch to model space....Oh the colors are back how did you do that...I'm magic" There are two kinds of computer users:
A) the people that use 10 percent of a computer or applications capability and complain that the computer "can't" do XYZ
-or-
B) the people who use 10 percent of a computer or applications capability and know that in order to use the other 90% they need to read the manual.OK I'll get off the soap box now.
Wait
CAD joke
I once had someone ask me how to divide a line into 5 equal segments. My response to that person was "well how would you do it manually" when the awkward silence had passed without an answer I knew life would be a lot easier if I just said type in "div" on the command line...but heck I still think a draftsperson should know how to divide a line in 5 equal parts using geometry. Ah the good old days of pin bar drafting and mylar and rapidiograph, and sepia although I don't miss the smell of sepia eradicator...I'm sure that stuff killed a few brain cells of mine. -
RE: Looking for some Arch-Viz advice
As others have mentioned unless your agreement or your invoice specifically states "Payment due upon receipt of invoice" or something to that effect. It's common business to business time table to make payment within 30 days. Depending on the amount owed sometimes if a client I do work for is waiting on payment I might ask for a partial payment. My advice is to let this one slide since you had no formal agreement on payment terms and it's more important to maintain a good working relationship. After you receive payment for this invoice you could have a conversation with this client and mention that for future projects you will be requiring payment upon receipt of invoice. Again if it's not imperative that you get this money I'd opt for maintaining a good relationship. If money is tight and getting this invoice paid is critical A simple phone call and a discussion about your needs and letting the client know that sooner rather than later for payment would be appreciated.

RE: BWM Illustration
Or better yet and Empty lot with a building for sale sign draped on the building. Maybe a broken down van with trash collecting on the parking lot and weeds growing in cracks...hehe you get the picture now I have an idea maybe next time I get a rendering job I do just that and submit it to the client and see what reaction I get...I can say Oh I thought you would like to see what the building will look like in 20 years when people no longer use cars for transportation because there is no more oil left.... However I'd have the real one done first so I could send that to them as soon as they stop laughing.

BWM Illustration
Have not posted to the gallery in a while. This type of illustration is what pays the bills for me. Someday I hope to learn photo real apps like Vray, Maxwell, or others but you can't beat the simplicity and effectiveness of sketchup. I added some reflections and some additional plant materials in Piranesi but other than that its pretty much straight out of SU.

RE: Another podium render
The scale of the cobble stones also looks too small relative to the size of the bricks on the wall. I agree on the woman smoking in the scene. Of course if it's for your own use that's fine but sometimes clients can have a fit over these entourage people. I remember once doing a rendering for an architect and the project had a balcony area that was going to be for the architects client. I put a man and a woman on the balcony. turns out the wife of the client had blond hair and woman in the rendering had dark hair...the clients wife suggested that he was having an affair so the architect asked me to change the woman to a blond haired woman....
I think the phrase is "perception is reality" anyway sometimes as illustrators we need to be conscious of peoples perceptions and realize that some people have a difficult time separating and illustration from reality.

RE: Render this: Stained glass
When I was in high school I used to work for a stained glass company repairing old church stained glass windows. It was fun once you get over the initial fear of working with glass. Although carrying a 4x8 sheet of glass up stairs can be a bit nerve wracking. The old windows had very deep textured groves and in some cases the clothing etc on robes and figures was also cast into the glass as apposed to painting it on as is common today. I've seen stained glass windows designed and made by Tiffany they were beautiful. Here is a hint to add realizm don't make each piece of glass in the same plane some glass is thicker than others and with the fabrication process it's impossible to get all of the pieces to lay flat in the same plane. and the cane is soldered by hand at each joint making each joint unique. Pluse the irregularity of each piece of glass in a slightly different plane contributes to the unique specularity and reflections / refractions from the light giving it a hand made look. Good luck to those that take this challenge I'd love too but the mountain of paperwork on my desk has a different plan for me.

With a perspective problem.
That's not a perspective problem...it's a "unique perspective" that only your hand/eye combination could create. Don't belittle your ability relish it's uniqueness. I think it's great. Have a look at some early American dutch rural paintings of farm buildings, I can't remember the painters name right now but your drawing reminds me of his work. His work is famous and his style is what separated him from all the other painters more interested in creating "photographic" paintings. The thing about beauty is that just like in nature nothing is perfect and if it is we hold no emotional value in it, however if artwork represents a human imperfect characteristic it reminds us of ourselves and we then care for it in a more emotional way.

RE: Smustard.com Interviews at IO Conference
Way to go Rick and Todd. As always your efforts to improve SU or bring functionality to the end users that is not present in the base application is much appreciated.
