    • Affordable laptop for sketchup

I am a furniture maker using sketchup for fairly simple models such as modelling kitchens etc and the laptop I use it on is dying! I've been hunting around for ages trying to find an affordable replacement that will meet the required specs, but keep reading conflicting advice. My budget is around Β£400. I can easily find laptops with 8gb ram and fast processors, but the graphics requirements are leaving me stumped. Everyone says intel hd graphics are useless and some people say the AMD ryzen 5 integrated graphics are better and some say they're worse. Basically it seems like I can't afford a computer with a dedicated graphics card, so for the sort of modelling I do, what would you guys recommend? These are my top 2 options currently...

    • RE: Extending a non-axis orientated line

Thank you!! That was just what I needed to know. How do people know these tricks? Do you just discover them by accident or are they written down somewhere?

    • Extending a non-axis orientated line

I'm developing a router jig to carve guitar necks on and it bases it's shape on two profiles, one at the first fret and one at the 9th fret. I have drawn these out on sketchup and have lofted them to get the neck profile, but I need to extend it further out at each end without distorting the original shape. Is there a way of extending a line without changing it's axis? I have tried drawing an adjoining line and using the snap 'parallel to edge' function, but I can't get it to work properly.
Any ideas? Am I missing something totally obvious to everyone else but me? πŸ˜’

    • RE: [Plugin] SketchyFFD (Classic)

Ok never mind. I installed it again for the 5th time and it works for some reason!

    • RE: [Plugin] SketchyFFD (Classic)

Thanks for the reply. I have tried installing every version and none of them have that button. The rest of the submenu is there like I said, but when you adjust the control points, nothing happens and there is no update button.
Is there a newer plugin that works better than this then? I haven't found another that can twist and warp organic shapes like this one is supposed to.

I am having the same problem. I have tried installing every version of the script and there is no 'Update FFD' menu button. The other FFD submenu is there though. I'm using Sketchup Make 2015. Has anyone solved this problem?

    • RE: Components have disappeared

Thanks very much for the help - it will save me several hours of frustration! 😍
I did actually make the components as I went along so I shouldn't have a problem there, but thanks for the reminder.

Oh ok, I didn't see that box so it probably wasn't ticked. So what I have now is the component and the original on top of each other or just the original?

Yes they are there in the component browser. I don't think I could have exploded them all by accident as there are 50 or so.

    • Components have disappeared

I've been making a model of a desk I'm about to start building and have been making each part a component so I can pull it apart and look at the pieces individually. Now I've just opened it again to do some more work on it and found that all the components have back to individual lines and faces. I can't think what I can have done and it's almost impossible to get them back without starting again. 😞
Please tell me I've just clicked something I shouldn't have!

    • RE: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Full Set

Ok, I've got the toolbar, but when I try to use the EbyEdge tool, for about 15 - 20mins nothing happens. My computer is normally quite fast - is it meant to take that long?

    • RE: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Full Set

I've just installed the collection but it isn't working properly. The toolbar doesn't appear and the EbyEdges tool doesn't work. I haven't tried the others out yet. Is this just me? I've installed it by putting the .rb files in the main plugins folder and the tigtools folder in there as well. Is that right?
