@peterf said: I am a furniture maker using sketchup for fairly simple models such as modelling kitchens etc and the laptop I use it on is dying! I've been hunting around for ages trying to find an affordable replacement that will meet the required specs, but keep reading conflicting advice. My budget is around £400. I can easily find laptops with 8gb ram and fast processors, but the graphics requirements are leaving me stumped. Everyone says intel hd graphics are useless and some people say the AMD ryzen 5 integrated graphics are better and some say they're worse. Basically it seems like I can't afford a computer with a dedicated graphics card, so for the sort of modelling I do, what would you guys recommend? These are my top 2 options currently... https://www.box.co.uk/81V5001AUK-Lenovo-V155-15API_2808677.html https://www.box.co.uk/7DE73EAABU-HP-255-G7_2580201.html Well, with LENOVO V155-15API, you do get minimum requirements but it is minimum so if your models will be simple with not too many polygons then I guess you will be fine. But again, this is a minimum. https://help.sketchup.com/en/sketchup/system-requirements

If you had unselected entities (even one) when you made your components, that little box would need to be ticked manually. If you select all connected entities (edges and faces) that box will get ticked automatically when you choose Create Component. BTW, Peter, to get an idea of how it works to draw as I suggest by making one component before moving on to the next, take a look at the video here. The video isn't really done as a detailed tutorial but it demonstrates my workflow when drawing furniture and other things will many parts.
