yeah i have, it never once broke down, despite being second hand, and with 100,000 on the clock.

my fiat on the other hand, now that broke down most weeks, and it was brand new.
bloody italians πŸ˜‰ <--- first wink i have ever used!

    • RE: Large Hadron Collider

i just love the serendipity in science, that is what makes it such a wonderfully interesting subject.

anyone thinking this LHC is a bad idea is exceptionally naive.

penicillin, post-it notes, the microwave, the pacemaker, superglue.

all examples of small expeiments which have yielded more than the scientist was hoping for.
imagine what discoveries can be made from this experiment.

personally, i am very excited by what could come of this, and i'm glad we live in a world where people are given the chance to experiment, learn, discover and inovate.
what if man had never discovered fire?

mankind can only benefit from this, and we shall all be richer for the work these scientists have put in.

unless they do make a black hole, that would be a bummer.

    • RE: SMC topic suggestions

      how about:

      timepieces
      telephones
      furniture

just a few, as like you said, it's surprisingly hard.
how about you have the winner of the challenge thinking of the theme for the next challenge?

oh, and just as a question, with these challenges, are we designing something original, or modelling something existing?

    • RE: Anyone up for a speed modellign challenge?

how about just setting an end date, with a time limit on modelling (like the 30mins suggested) with sketches and anything wip related (not sketchup modelling) to be posted before the submit date.
that way this would haev more time to filter through to more people, and you can see the progression from sketch to model too.

      just an idea.

Microsofts directx file format, for game engines and such.
(I think there is a .x importer exporter for SketchUp.)
The great thing with three[d] is that it exports animated trees that looks like the wind is blowing.
I've done some tests with it and DX Studio and exported buildings from SketchUp.
      Nothing to show yet though.

While I'm at it DX Studio http://www.dxstudio.com is a program for making realtime visualisations and such. Also comes in a free version with some limitations but great for trying/learning it. (New version to be out in september.)

so is there a way of opening these files in sketchup? as all i can seem to do is export the sketchup to .x and not the otherway round.

getting a little confused! he he

      cheers

      ah i see!

well i shall continue to refrain from using smilies, partly because clicking is just too much effort, and partly because they scare me. a lot.

just to add, the video of the show off getting floored was hilarious,
      reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DzcOCyHDqc

      ah touche solo!

well, i do have some news, well less news and more friendly advice.

do not under any circumstances run into a tree while blind drunk, no matter how much of a good idea it seems at the time.

you end up looking like this...

snapped my nose in two places. the 5th time i have broken it in 7 years.
on the plus side it has cleared up my snoring.

A 9 Mb file shouldn't produce too much of a speed drop. (I sometimes work on SU files +100 Mb)

my work computer crashes at 8mb without exception.
i dream of being abot to work on a +100mb model.
