I finally got around to playing with SketchFab and I must say that I'm impressed, got 4 models done so far with lots more to go. I've done a little testing with embedding them on a web page and it works well.

RE: SketchUp 2017 - anti aliasing problem Mac OS Sierra
I love my mac but (in my opinion) the MacOS version of SU is damn awful, the materials palette, the layer control and as mentioned above the AA, all of them horrible compared to the Windows version. Plus ... the incredibly poor toolbar layout (or lack of) options.
I have SU2017/Win10 running in bootcamp and it's a beast but then it should be with an i7, 16Gb and the meaty Radion R9.
I know Mac's are damn expensive (this one was £2000) but I just sold my old 2008 MBP Core2Duo for £150 and the new owner couldn't be happier, 10 years old and still going like a champ. Try saying that about a 10 year old Windows box. -
RE: Internal Office Renders
Real building, it's an awkward one as is on a corner and this particular office is more or less in the roof.
Here's a current shot of it:

Internal Office Renders
I've never really been comfortable with internal renders, I tend to keep throwing lights in until I either get something ok'ish or what looks like a nuclear explosion but... with the help of Fletch at Twilight I realised I've been using Twilight wrong for many years.
I've now got a much better handle on what/how/when to do things and this is the result:
-
Twilight and Skatter
1st real test of Skatter, colour me impressed, Twilight did a cracking job.

RE: Lots of trees
I added ssl (https) to the site and it broke the pretty links so I had to switch back to the ugly style url's
I've changed the original post to this:
https://www.dma-ni.com/dma_projects/dma_view_proj/?permalink=ardee-road-dundalkAlso that is one very broken 404 page .... looks like I need to do a little work on the site this weekend

RE: Lots of trees
Yea forgot that most of those are from the Premium Bundles!! They're great
Brexit not so much, though it's an ever present scary monster just over the horizon. We've now got an election on 2nd March due to the political 'elite' playing stupid buggers with £480m of our money, with luck we'll get some fresh faces who are less disposed to bending over and taking it like a politician.

Lots of trees
Rendered in Twilight, I'm not sure what I was expecting but I think the renders came out quite well

RE: Adding layers to extension
As an very active user of layers could you please precede your layers with your/your plugin name this way they will remain unique, calling them common names like 'Roof' or 'Truss' is just asking them to be mixed in with existing layers.
If you did the same with any component and material names your plugin(s) creates it would be very helpful too. -
RE: New website
Thanks guys,
Here's a couple more I did, very wordy but I think I did ok.

http://www.employabilitysouth-belfast.orgGota say Richard that your site's are really nice, I've always admired your layouts when you've posted them and you obviously have an innate sense of design. This is where we differ as I have to go steal (by force if necessary ) mine, i Just need to go robbing a better class of designer in the future

RE: New website
Thanks for the Comments Richard,
I’ve had a fiddle and changed some things:
Fonts are a little smaller on large monitors, It’s always a toss up between font size, words per line and content width. I’m using 4 sizes / 3 breakpoints and I’d rather have largish fonts than too many words per line or too narrow a content area.I reprocessed the images used in the header(s) through https://tinypng.com
If you haven’t used it yet its remarkable how much it can squeeze png’s and jpg’sI’ve also limited the header to 7 random images (from 30) instead of the full 30 - that was stupid of me not to put in the limit.
The Services icons are pure CSS and are remarkably fast, have a look here at some of my tests http://www.sandbox.russam.me/wilburys
I’ll look again at the number of projects on the Projects page, It’s a common mistake I make in that I try to list everything instead of what is important.
The site is built with Rapidweaver + Stacks + Foundation + a bucket load of other add ons The site is fully CMS’d so I can add /modify projects any time.
Thanks again,
Paul

RE: Affinity Designer for Windows (beta)
Affinity Designer is a vector editor like Illustrator not a raster (photoshop etc). I've been using it on the Mac for some time and it's very good, the Windows beta is a little rough around the edges but they are a proactive dev team so I expect many frequent releases as the beta progresses.
They do have Affinity Photo on the mac which is a rester editor and assuming that Designer does well then I'd be surprised not to see it also come to Windows. -
RE: Who's been how long.
SketchUp since v4, I tried looking it up but couldn't find any info on early version release dates.
In regards to forums I've been through AtLast's, Google's (for all of 5 mins ), Sketch Education (I think it was called that before we hijacked it ), SketchUcation. -
RE: Need a little help
And here's how it turned out.
The model is quite basic on the inside as an extensive renovation is planned and there's not much point in modeling what will soon be ripped out.[kubity:1hnw9d38]tReKVG[/kubity:1hnw9d38]

Need a little help
What do you think is the best way to model the random super rough texture you see in the attached photos?
I actually need to have it modeled not just a rendered bump but I don't want it so complex that it ends up being half the model in size.

RE: Refurb of Existing Property
It's quite a substantial site, we dint bother modelling it as the client is going to do all that himself.

Refurb of Existing Property
This is an existing property that's been abandoned for some years, its listed so we cant do too much to it.
