I made a small test at work, and I'm asking myself the same thing. I'll have to make another test with an old model at home.
EDIT : I made another simple animation with some tree components with which i had always the shadow bug, but the bug is gone.

I don't think it's arrogant, and maybe I expressed myself the wrong way. I'm only speaking from my experience. All thoses plugins helped a lot in the past, and are still helping me today.
I totally agree with the fact that all the tools that those plugins offers could be implemented in SketchUp, but I'm not sure this is the good way for two reasons :
Not everyone needs all the functions that those plugins offers, and SkecthUp is aim to be a simple and intuitive software. And for this, the native interface and tools panel of SU are good.
Then, all thoses plugins can slow down the system and make it unstable sometimes, as you mentioned.
I'm happy for you that you success to make big and detailled model without any plugin. But just tell me, what should I have to spend three hours on a work, that a plugin is able to do in 5 minutes, and as a landscape architect, I can tell this is often the case...
Then, you tell that a well designed cad system shouldn't to have externally developped tool plugins : I think this is arrogant. Because telling this, is telling that people who makes software are "gods" and all those great guys working and adding essential functions through plugins are just foolish guys, don't you think ?
The time where all software makers worked alone in a closed world is over, today the community is here to help people and software makers.

I started using Sketchup just after version 5 was released by @Last. I visited the @Last forums regularly in order to find advices and tips to learn sketchup for my work. Then, when those forum were closed, I jumped on sketchucation where most of @last forum members seems to go. From the @Last forum until here, I always used plugins, even before masterize the skecthup tools. All of them helped me a lot during all my works.
Those plugins became just essential for me.
Doing without plugins...a stupid way for me. It's really not a big effort to understand the way to install and use them, so I think that people don't use these just by ignorance.
Salut, le nouveau livre "Créer avec Sketchup" qui vient de sortir chez pearson, aborde le sujet des composants dynamiques. Ce n'est pas exhaustif mais ça peut te fournir de bonnes bases pour commencer.

C'est un investissment qui n'est pas anodin, je te recommande de les contacter et de leur demander de te fournir des fichiers d'exemples directement extrait de leur software fourni avec le scan 3D. De cette manière tu pourras tester toi même l'importation sous Sketchup.
Sur leur site tu peux leur poser directement des questions sous le menu principal en haut à droite.

I already upgraded with the previous 7.1 release, and it seems that I have a better increase performance with this maintenance release. I'll check it this tonight.

Je vais essayer ça ce soir si j'ai un peu de temps. Je ne savais pas comment éditer leur script mais je vais faire un essai pour voir si ça fonctionne. Ca fait un moment que je me penche sur l'environnment linux, mais chaque fois mes softs professionnels me retiennent sur l'environnement windows. Donc j'avance un peu à tâtons !!

Patrick as tu essayé d'installer SketchUp 7.1 sur la dernière distrib d'ubuntu 9.10 ? J'ai tenté l'installation avec Wine et PlayOnlinux qui me donne de bons résultats sur certains softs, mais j'obtiens un Bugsplat au démarrage de SketchUp !!

DoubleCAD est un "clone" d'autocad qui offre une version standart gratuite déjà très bien fournie pour le dessin 2D. Il faut passer en version pro pour la 3D mais son prix n'a rien à voir avec celui d'autocad. Tu retrouves la même interface, les mêmes outils..etc...
Vas te faire une idée :
Oui j'ai appris que la dernière mouture de DoubleCAD ouvrait les fichiers sketchup !! Mais j'ai pas encore essayé, merci pour le lien je regarde tout de suite.
EDIT : Dès que je pourrais faire tourner doublecad sous linux de façon efficace, je pourrais enfin faire ma migration définitive vers ubuntu...En attendant je ferais quelques essais avec doubleCAD pour tester le problème de blizzard.

Oui je vois bien ce que tu veux dire...
Tu peux toujours recharger le composant arbre après la mise à jour de tes xrefs mais cela suppose que ton arbre soit modélisé dans un fichier sketchup séparé, et donc tu dois te créer une bibliothèque pour chaque éléments que tu fais venir avec les xrefs...
Peut-être qu'en combinaison avec un autre plugin il y aurait moyen de faire l'inverse. Je vais chercher un peu pour voir. Merci pour le retour d'info.

Il existe un plugin développé par TIG qui s'appelle XrefManager_v5-6. Apparement il permets d'utiliser des éléments externes, dont les fichiers autocad et de les gérer. J'ai pas encore eu le temps de l'essayer, trop de taff, mais jettes y un oeil pour voir si ça peut t'aider.
