• Tool to automatically create ifcSpaces ?

Hi everyone, I just wondered if anyone had come across a plugin that would automatically generate volumes from a model corresponding to the "voids" left between object that represent wall, floors and ceilings for example such that we could classify them as ifcSpace objects.
Currently we do this by hand as it were, which for small projects is not so much trouble, but for larger ones, and ones with relatively complex room shapes for exemple, it's a bit of a hassle...
Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

OK, good news folks I fixed the problem:

I got radical and deleted ALL Fredo6 related folders and files from everywhere, then reinstalled all, starting by LibFredo via the SketchUcation toolbar... despite verious error messages, once I restarted SU22 they reworked.
Fingers crossed that it holds.
Anyway, thanks all & hope this helps someone sometime.

Oh, & for good mesure, I tried what you suggested on another thread...
"If the error persists, then try [re]deleting the C:/Users/YOUR_USER_NAME/AppData/Local/LIBFREDO6_DATA_Dir directory - because it might have incorrect permissions from any earlier incorrect installation of SketchUp..."

& sadly that did not fix the issue.

TIG thank you for your reply.

I did all of that on my SU2022 install and now have the same awful popup window as I mentioned before.

I again tried to reinstall the LibFredo package using both approved methods, and, in desperation, by copying the files from the .rbz to the plugin folder, but on all three attempts, on restarting SU, this damn window pops up saying that "LibFredo is incorrectly installed, remove, <OK>"

I can't think what has recently changed in order for the whole thing to act this way...

Maybe it's the version of windows ? it's Win11 Pro 22H2, build 22621.819

oh, & just now on launch of SU 2021 I got this bizarre message popped up in a window:

"Incorrect installation of LibFredo6 - Remove rb files" with an "ok" button that i did not press !

This is bizarre as I had correctly installed the rbz...

Luckily on the SU2022 launch I have not had this window

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this post, so apologies in advance if this needs moving.

Despite having been able to use various of Fredo6's superb tools in the past, including after having bought a licence on both SU2021 & 22, I am currently experiencing problems...

I check my licence status, let's say for Joint push pull, & it says i'm ok, but wen I try to use the tool, nothing works.
& Yes, I've updated to the latest versions of both plugin & LibFredo, plus my SketchUcation plugin is also the latest version. I've tried on both 21 & 22, to no avail.
This is also true for Curviloft and Tools on surface etc...

Anyone have any ideas (BTW, the old free version of Joint PP works for some reason)

Thanks in advance.

to use SketchFX for animations you will need SketchFX Ex[/quote]

yes, that's what I downloaded, the demo version of SketchFX EX & it's that the doesn't seem to be compatible with animator... the real bummer is I can't seem to send a message to the people that do that software... some kind of javascript error on their "contact" page 😞

Hello, I've downloaded the trial version of SketchFX & it looks great plus from it's own interface I can export a video using the classic sketchup scenes..
The glitch for me is that when I set up an animation using your fabulous Animator, from there I cannot get it to export a video correctly rendered by SkFX... & yet an unrendered video is possible from Animator ?
BTW I have checked, I have the latest versions of Animator & the ffmpeg.exe
Is this because I have the demo version of SkFX, or what might be going on here please ?
Very frustrating as both Animator & SkFX are great, but I really would like for them to work together as I thought that i was possible...

Thanks in advance,

• IFC & attributes import-export

Quick question:

Where is Trimble at on expanding the capabilities of Sketchup vis à vis IFC & attribute import/export ?

For the moment, if I've understood correctly, one can label components & groups following the IFC classes... & when exported & opened in Bimsight or Eve or whatever we can see the class info.
However, unlike the biggies (Revit or Archicad or whatever) we can't yet add extra attributes like name (of an Ifc:Space object for example) or a cost or other enrichment & have it show up in an IFC viewer) ???
Apparently if we import an IFC file from one of the biggies we do get their extra attribute information... ?

So, has anyone any news, or info about a clever plugin that can add our own extra info to a correctly classified IFC object and have that info get exported with the "export3d>IFC" functionality ?

Thanks, & sorry if someone else has already done a thread on this, but I didn't find it !

"it sucks working with it"

Exactly, that's just it !
Obviously breaking the chain with tradi-cad is sad & frustrating, but for me less painful than working with LO.
For us here the LO experience is like trying to thread a needle with oven gloves on...
If it ever became as fluid & fast & compatible with the outside world as SU, we'd be very happy, but it is just NOT there.
Maybe the Trimble folks are working on it and LO 4 will be all brand new & perfect ?
Meantime, we are looking at Spaceclaim...

Good luck Trimble team.

@calypsoart said:

I work in Film and Television. I have used Maya, Solidworks, Rhino, Sketchup, Autocad and a few other packages. I've abandoned all but Rhino, SU and AC. In my TV work we have to design sets, put out drawings, and get them built in days, and sometimes hours. For modeling, nothing is as fast as SU. Period! However, in my workflow, it is much faster for me to section through the SU model and export to AC than to use Layout. Layout just does not have the tools.

I will use Layout when I just have a small element to complete, and lots of time. Granted, I'm sporadically using Layout and by no means well versed. But even just moving around in Layout on my computer it is much slower than AC. I recently worked with someone who only worked in Layout and was considered fast with the program. I was doing the more complicated pieces, and my SU>AC export method was at least 2 twice as fast if not more.

Perhaps as I use Layout more I may discover methods that help me pick up the pace, but I'm still skeptical.

+1 on what you say. here in our architecture practice in France we have tried all sorts of workflows & always come back to the export 2d > dwg method.
Using LO is SOOOOO slow even on our best machines with super graphics card etc... it's so painful I was tempted to smoke again after 18years !
I've been doing 3d and 2d since 1988 and am still waiting for the join-up between easy intuitive 3d (sketchup, or, back in the day ModelShop) and fast update-able 2d at a reasonable price for a small outfit.. (no, I do not want BIM bam boom as it standardizes thought processes & is actually there to further push industrialisation of building....
Anyway, I'm sure the Trimble guys will get there at some point...

The worst is it works on another computer running windows7 (which I hate) hého, maybe I should reinstall IE if I have some time to waste...

yes, but i noticed that the error message mentioned a filepath that shouldnt exist in SU2014

C:/Program Files/SketchUp/SketchUp 2014/Plugins\HouseBuilder\housebuilder_sections.txt>

but I created it anyhow to see what happens & bingo it worked !

so, to recap for those who need to fix this

first you do TIG's fix in notepad (cf higher up)

then you create the filepath as if there were a plugins folder like in the previous versions of SU & it will work !
