      Hello there !!

      Kerkythea website has been closed for a while, and I desperately need some stuff from the site for my renderings. Does anyone of you still keep those libraries and would like to share them with me ? Thank you !!

      http://www.kerkythea.net/cms/index.php/downloads (the site is under rebuild, but some downloads are available)

      Correct forum links to earlier materials. Keep in mind that the post was from 2008! And sorry, no idea if those posts actually contain anything relevant as the repository is in different location and like said, some materials are still missing.

      Looks very pretty and more organised. But I don't suppose work is being done on Kerkythea anymore? Apart from Thea πŸ˜†

      There have not been a KT release for a while, but KT is still usable and free πŸ˜‰

    • RE: New Laptop Advice

      For desktops there are external cuda boxes, I think there are some for laptop, but with PC laptop PC only feasible connection is via express card interface (naturally need laptop with it). If you find a PCIe expansion box, you might need to equip such box by him self and need to verify that it works with cuda... Mac may use Thunderbolt http://www.magma.com/catalog/thunderbolt-pcie-expansion

      I'd probably put thea on there at some point too. Thanks.

      If GPU rendering with Thea is in your interest, pick one that has GeForce 700M series GPU, more RAM and CUDA cores on GPU the better... otherwise macbooks are my favorite (and you naturally can run Linux or Windows on those too πŸ˜‰ )

      I've tried most rendering plugins there is and I'll say Thea is the best out there currently.
      With the new 1.2 release with Field mapping and Presto GPU engine (for Nvidia cards with lots of memory) you have several great ways to approach a tight deadline.

      do you by any chance know if they're going the openCL route in the future? apple has made it pretty clear that they'll be dropping nvidia

      CUDA vs OpenCL
      In the beginning there was only one path for us, the standard path, that is OpenCL. But we have found out (the hard way) that OpenCL is not really "tuned" for complex staff. There is a varying performance and quite a lot of fighting with getting the code to actually run. Nevertheless, this is the path we would like to follow and this is why, the language used during programming has been made with OpenCL in mind and to exactly help the transition to the standard when it is more mature. We will be visiting this topic frequently to see how we can make Presto running on ATI/Intel graphic cards.

      OpenCL was the original platform on Presto GPU rendering was plan to be build on, but unfortunately it did not meet set requirements. Anyhow, as far as a know, giannis is open to develop on it. So I'd say OpenCL renderer might some point be released.

      Does anyone know when the iPhone 6 is coming out and what new features will it have?

      There been talks about super-sensitive screen, wireless charging, colors... finger print reader. But who knows, it always will be a blast for fans and others wonder why anything has changed in years (except a better display) πŸ˜‰

      @ashscott said:

      So Thea is built differently to KT? - My assumption was that they are built on the same base...

      It's different. Twilight uses Kerkythea engine, but Thea is a different beast. If you have more Thea related questions, please join into http://www.thearender.com/forum/

      @ashscott said:

      The example you linked to on the KT forum is pretty elementary - I haven't seen anything with KT that supports multiple instances...

      You mean at EC2? If you read carefully http://www.kerkythea.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=62415#p62415
      "... it is possible to network render inside EC2 by opening two instances...".

      or in just local network between your own computers http://www.kerkythea.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4234

      Like said, KT network rendering is pretty crude and requires manual scene management... PITA to handle if you have several nodes.

    • RE: Kerkhythea rendering problem

      If scene is greatly out of scale and/or far from KT work origin it's known to produce something like this.
      btw... there is not much relation between kerkythea and Thea, but the developer πŸ˜‰ Thea is build from the scratch but can convert KT scenes in Thea format. One really cannot compare those

    • RE: Render Question....

      @ashscott said:

      If you recommend Thea, please explain why it won't face the same network render limitations as Kerkythea.

      Kerkythea never been planned to use in any larger render farms, only with few nodes (still some have used it with Amazon EC2 http://www.kerkythea.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7051). It's safe to say that there are issues in KT network rendering, but it works if you have time to fiddle...

      On the other hand Thea has rather robust network rendering and it has actual build in support for farms. You can build your own farm with tutorials available here http://www.thearender.com/cms/index.php/resources/render-farms.html or use some commercial farms.

      I wanted to recommend KT, but if it is no longer available I will have to remove it from my suggestions.

      Just very slow. Giannis is rebuilding the site (off line) with the little time he can take off from Thea Render development. Everything is safe, but conversion to a new platform was more challenging than expected.

      Looking for Nokia Lumia 1020 (or it's global/EU variant). It's not only the unique camera, but it also does have a high dynamic stereo recording. This been a long wait as I skipped Nokia 808 pureview (because I had a understanding that the "moster" camera was also meant to be released in Lumia line).
