    • NVIDIA RTX or CUDA?

      Hi there,

I have a question regarding the best type of GPU for running Vray for Sketchup (latest version) in hybrid mode (CPU+GPU). On the Chaos Group website they say that hybrid mode only works with NVIDIA CUDA-cards and not with NVIDIA RTX-cards. This leaves me a bit confused as the NVIDIA website shows both their GTX- and RTX-card seem to have CUDA cores.

I don't want to spend a lot of money on a GPU which in the end does not support V-ray's hybrid mode. Can somebody clarify this for me?

      Kind regards,
      Marco

    • RE: SU2017 gets slower while working

      Thanks for the tips.

I've reinstalled SU2017 as administrator but still have the problem.

I've don't have Integrated Intel Graphics only the GeForce GPU so that shouldn't be the problem either.

I'm considering buying SU2018 but am a bit scared that it will have the same lag problem as 2017 so I would like to solve the problem first.

    • SU2017 gets slower while working

      Hi there,

While working on some projects I noticed SU2017 (Make) starts slowing down and gets lagged along the way. Does anybody know what causes this and if there is a solution?

      Computer:
      Windows 10 1803
      CPU: I7-4930K (hexacore @ 3.4GHz)
GPU: NVidea GeForce GTX760 (2GB) with latest updates

I used to work with S8 and had no problems at all. Now with SU2017 after about 10 minutes working on a model (doesn't matter which one or how big/complex) Sketchup starts to get laggy. Basically it's with all commands. Saving the file and open it again doesn't make any difference. Only restarting Sketchup works.

I've tried some solutions found on the internet such as setting the Multisample anti-alias on 0x, changing the edge style or switching off the outliner. But none of these solved it. Sketchup does recognize the GPU and gives no errors in the preferences>OpenGL>graphic card details. I also ran the Sketchup Checkup 2018 and this also gave no errors or warnings.

I hope somebody recognize the problem and has a solution.

      Kind regards,
      Marco

    • RE: Geforce GTX750Ti/GTX760gaming/Quadro?

I have no experience with using the GPU for rendering. How does this work? Do I need a special VRay (RT) or is it something the 'normal' VRay version can do as well?

Basically I'm planning to use the CPU (hence the i7-4960K)and not GPU.

    • Geforce GTX750Ti/GTX760gaming/Quadro?

At the moment I'm about to buy a new desktop but I am doubting about which graphic card to use.

      Setup:
cpu: Intel i7-4930K (no integrated graphic chip)
      motherboard: Asus P9X79
      memory: 4x4Gb Corsair Vengeance LP
ssd: OCZ Vertex 460 120Gb (maybe upgrading to 240Gb)
      cooling: Scythen Mugen 4 PCGH
power: Be Quite! Pure Power L8 630W (depending on the choice of the graphic card)

For rendering I use the normal VRay so it will use the CPU and not the graphic card.

I was advised to take a MSI GeForce GTX760 gaming for the graphic card though some people thought that was too much and advised a GeForce GTX750Ti. I've also read some good things on using a professional Quadro card instead.

I'm looking for a graphic card which will make Sketchup run smooth, even when using largers scenes (around 100MB).

The card needs DVI dual link or (preferably) Display Port connection for my Dell U2713H monitor.

Who's got any thoughts about this?

      Thanks.
