SU2017 gets slower while working
-
Hi there,
While working on some projects I noticed SU2017 (Make) starts slowing down and gets lagged along the way. Does anybody know what causes this and if there is a solution?
Computer:
Windows 10 1803
CPU: I7-4930K (hexacore @ 3.4GHz)
GPU: NVidea GeForce GTX760 (2GB) with latest updatesI used to work with S8 and had no problems at all. Now with SU2017 after about 10 minutes working on a model (doesn't matter which one or how big/complex) Sketchup starts to get laggy. Basically it's with all commands. Saving the file and open it again doesn't make any difference. Only restarting Sketchup works.
I've tried some solutions found on the internet such as setting the Multisample anti-alias on 0x, changing the edge style or switching off the outliner. But none of these solved it. Sketchup does recognize the GPU and gives no errors in the preferences>OpenGL>graphic card details. I also ran the Sketchup Checkup 2018 and this also gave no errors or warnings.
I hope somebody recognize the problem and has a solution.
Kind regards,
Marco -
We've seen this sort of report before. It is typically related to graphics. Make sure your Nvidia graphics drivers are up to date (check again) and make sure it is set to be used by SketchUp and not the integrated Intel graphics. Microsoft is known to push updates that include driver updates for Intel graphics that break OpenGL and they've been known to set the Intel graphics as default.

what if your getting this slow down.. and have NO intel graphics? I get it on my rig and went down to 2016 make.. 2017 rapidly becomes useless due to lag.

And you unticked Hardware Acceleration? That would imply your graphics card isn't up to the task. I think you need a new Tradis.

if a Geforce 1060 is not upto the task... we're all in serious doodoo....
and no option for hardware acceleration in SU...? (unless you mean fast feedback?) -

You said you went back to SU2016 which does have an option to disable Hardware Acceleration.
Did you try turning off Fast Feedback in SU2017?
Do you have a 3D Connexion device?
-
ok in 2016, I have hardware on, fastfeedback on, no issues with lag at all.
no 3Dconnexion devices.will try 2017 with fastfeedback off...
I was going to move to 2017 for the extension support..
also to add a data point:
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
AMD A8-6600K
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. A68HM-PLUS (FM2+ ) Mobo
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3
3071MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB (NVIDIA)all drivers up to date as of this post. all windows updates upto date as of this post.

Make sure you install 2017 correctly. That is by right clicking on the installer and selecting Run as administrator.
-
so long as it does not require being on C.... it's get to be on E with the rest of the programs...
-
If you don't use Run as administrator, SketchUp will not be installed correctly.
-
Thanks for the tips.
I've reinstalled SU2017 as administrator but still have the problem.
I've don't have Integrated Intel Graphics only the GeForce GPU so that shouldn't be the problem either.
I'm considering buying SU2018 but am a bit scared that it will have the same lag problem as 2017 so I would like to solve the problem first.

SU works fine with 7xx cards.
Try to close all trays (open only needed and then close);
Disable:
profiles, shadows, 'show hidden'. max. texture,
Use layer off to hide geometry you don't need now. Transparency quality- low.
