My "Best Solution" to date . . . Fudge It! Suggestion attached.

      Regards
      Nino

PS: Apparently, textures were not the real culprit for file size on original submittal. I try to keep profile polygon counts below those in that model but Customer insisted on "smoother" details.

    • FAK FollowMeAndKeep Still Not Right

Please refer to enclosed SKP. Wikii has done a superb job on the FAK Script. The tool still does not seem to fit the application when Following Me a handrail profile along a circular stair.

      Any suggestions welcome.

PS: Sorry for textures bloating filesize. Forgot to peel them off prior to drafting the post.

Gai: Thanks for prompt response. I'll look at your SKP next. Your explanation follows my initial interp. Clarifying; To protect customer's design (and reputation) I removed his/her design and drew the "box" myself. But your explanation is in line with my diagnosis. He/She altered axes prior to briging in the SKP model.

My upcoming challenge is "re-learning" how to handle axes setup and "reset". If you could please lead me with a bit more detail as to Where/How/Tool/Axes to perform the R-Click to Reset, I'd appreciate it.

      Kindest Regards

    • North is OFF

Customer provided GeoLocated SKP file. Noticed I could not get a "Parallel Projection" --say Top View -- without one of the side planes being visible. Also noticed that my "Z" Axis becomes visible on a Top View when it should not be.

My best explanation is that, for some reason, True North has been "skewed" off the vertical axis.

How did they do that? Can it be fixed?

      Model enclosed.

      Regards to All.

Ninomayda have you tried "follow me and keep"?

      FM & Keep . . . . Have not tried it, is it a PlugIn? I'll look.

Ok Gents, I give up. Wondering if this post addresses my challenge on Compound Mitered Cuts. Have a Trim-Moulding running paralel to a set of stairs. Problem comes when stairs walls make a 45 deg turn and Follow-Me rotates the extrusion along the Z axis.

Tried couple of scripts. Could not find the right one.

Model attached. Any help will be appreciated.

      Regards

There is no problem to enter the value in a text box in the Component option windows AND let the user manualy scale it.
If you have a problem to do that, send us the file to understand the problem.

Thanks for your solution. Exquisite. We look "outside" of the box while the real answer lies in specifying LenX.

Brilliant, straight forward and so simple.

      Thanks again. 😍

    • ScaleTool AND TextBox

Need "direction" from the "Experts" here. Would like end user to be able to adjust width of an object using either one; "ScaleTool" and/or "TextBox" entry. Have played with the Current() Attribute function with little success. I can figure a way out of Circ Refs.

      Same with RAND()...
If the formula is the same, the result is the same.

      Here's what I did. 3 identical formulas, 3 different values between 1 and 5.

I was intresded with your video : all the opposite to my experience !!
So... I tested and tested again, and finally I understand why !!! 😄

If you type in uppercase (RAND() or RANDBETWEEN(1,5)) or use the help to insert function (that write it in uppercase), same formulas produce same result.
But if you write in lowercase (rand() or randbetween(1,5)) each folmula produce a different result, the random is "realy" random !

If you use mixed case, Rand() produce same result as other Rand(), but different to RaNd() that produce same as other RaNd()...

I used to type in uppercase in DC, but now, I will always use lowercase, like in Ruby 😆

Thanks Jim for you exemple 👍

If anybody was going to provide an answer . . . . it was shure to be SketchUcation. THANKS.

    • RandomBetween Not very Random

I've set up two separeate variables to generate "RandBetween(1,5)" and "OnClick" to "Redraw". When Redraw occurs, I invariably get the exact same result on BOTH RandBetween variables. I would have expected 2 different random values.

    • RE: DC Where are the Decimals

This is uncanny not to mention embarrassing. I invested 4+ hours yesterday on this DC and could not get decimals produced from the calculations. I shut down SKP and re-started more than twice in order to flush buffers (Re-Do’s) and the integers without decimal calcs kept coming through. When I fired the PC to provide you the requested actual model for this thread, it all works out honky dory. I swear the problem was there yesterday. Can’t explain how it was fixed or if it’s going return in future instances for this DC.
The Field that would not return decimals is = “RiserActualHeight”

    • DC Where are the Decimals

      LenZ = 22; Copies = 5. When an element's height = LenZ/Copies I get = 4. Right answer = 4.4. I inded get 4.4 with LenZ/5. What gives?
