      Hi guys

could somebody help clear this up for me, hopefully in a detailed and straight forward way.

Essentially I want to encorporate the tones and colours from a site photo into the colours of the model but more importantly in the reflections of the building.

In the past I have simply modeled the surrounding context and this has worked, in this case however it wont, now I've read the tutorials about using a Bitmap for GI and BG but have had mixed results I really need to retain the shadows from the sketchup sky at the same time as well, could anyone clear this up for me please, do I put the bitmap into GI or BG and what setting would I use?

Can you elaborate a little more please?

    • Saving your Vray progress for later region rendering

      Hi guys

I plan on doing a series of renders over the next few days, they will all be taken from exactly the same view, but likely that a series of small areas/materials will be changed, which I'd obviously correct with region renders. However when switching off your machine or closing sketchup you loose the image generated in the frame buffer so ultimately loose the option to region render parts of the image not to mention the amount of wasted time. Is there a way to save this base image and get vray to region render parts over it at a later date? at the mo I'm using an irradiance map followed by a light cache

      thanks

      Its 1.49.01 Apparently,

I've opened a new folder and rendered that across the network,

only one simple material with a displacement map and it seems to have worked fine, I think it must be because the other model didnt have any materials saved onto my system directly, since what I need to work on will have all new materials anyway this should hopefully work, thanks for your time guys

      Ok I've tested it,

it doesnt appear to have sent any materials over the network on this occasion, all the textures are matt colour opposed to the photo textures that I previously replied, the file Im working on has been transferred from another machine so none of the materials have a saved location on my machine other than in the temp folder I'm guessing so perhaps this is the problem?

      Hi Thom

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly,

I am using Sketchup 7 with Vray (im not sure how to work out which vray version I have)

is it is as easy as that?

ie click asset collection then send to each node?

Ill test it and get back to you

      Thanks

      Hi John

Sorry I couldnt find where this post had gone, hence my slow reply.

Essentially I have set up a very basic LAN between my two home computers, the DR spawner works fine except that it is unable to read the materials from the master computer on the slave computer, from my research and understanding materials have to be in one centralized location but when I read the text in the DR spawner it reads the location as having no such file, I have tried enabling sharing the whole of my C drive, which I understand is quite risky, so I'm not sure what is going wrong.

Thanks for your replys guys, basically I've got the LAN up and have managed to send renders across it, however its not picking up the materials from the original model, I've started a new thread but if you guys know how to resolve that please let me know

Oh right I see thanks guys, using the VR Image option opens up so many options, before I was having to simplify my model when in reality the more complex the more convincing the render

      Ok

So I've set up a LAN and Sucessfully got two comptuers to respond to one another and render, however from I can see of the test render is that the slave machine is not picking up the materials that are stored on the master, how do I get this to work? If anyone can help it will be much appreciated since Ive got a tight deadline coming up soon!

      Thanks in advance

      Thanks Andy Bot,

I guess I'll have to invest in some Ethernet cables, should improve speeds considerably, since at the mo I'm used to running up to 24 cores and my own computer only has 4! Does a standard LAN do the job? It'll be the first time I've attempted to set one up.

      Thanks Andy bot

I managed to work around it in photoshop, normally when I have a similar problem it involves changing the mode, in this case I think it was 32 bit down to 8 bit, the problem was it opened a second dialogue box instead of a simple save as and all of the options appeared to alter the colour balance/contrast/hue/saturation of the image, in the end I think there was a box with something like mode or method and I changed it to 'gamma or 'exposure' not 100 but this did not effect the image thankfully! sorry the instructions are a little vague but it was on my work computer so im doing from memory

    • .exr conversion

      Hi guys

      Probably another easy one,

I have had problems rendering images at a high res without the computer crashing so i followed an online tutorial to render vr image, the image rendered fine and as expected but into a .exr format. I followed the tutorial further and corrected the exposure problems it created however I'm then stuck as to how to convert the .exr into a jpeg, I've seen some online convertors but my images are sensitive and I dont want these to be potentially shared or copied by the softwares that I'm running them through online. Any help on this? Photoshop is my main means of photoediting.

      Thanks in advance

(...perhaps a quick Google search may be your best answer...)
      For example:
      http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Join-or-create-a-workgroup

Then when you have your network, see here to set up vray DR:

      Thanks andy bot,

do you know if this works wirelessly and whether if it is wireless whether it effects processing time etc

    • Home network for vray render slaves

      Dear All

First post I believe and this might not be a little out of the domain of this board but...

Basically I have two computers at home that I want to use to render with one as a master and one as a slave,

both are 64 bit but one if windows vista and one is windows 7.

      I was wondering whether

      a) its possible to network these two? at work in the past I have had trouble getting different computers to work with one another ie

some machines windows xp 32bit and some windows 7 and 64bit, the slaves would not work across from these two builds and im not sure whether it was the operating system or the 64/32 bit or both.

      b) if it is possible to network them, what and how do I do that? abit of a big question im guessing
