    • RE: Sketchup "loses" faces

      does it look like this?

i was losing faces on the foreground house (very simple massing models for site) which i attributed to the curves - just as you describe. it may have been on loading saving, i wasn't paying attention. however, i flicked the sun on to check site shading and this happened to my model (below?)

it was repeatable with the model ad nauseam so i tried messing with it. i ended up grouping the floor plate separately to the walls for the foreground building and the problem not only went away, but also if i tried backtracking (ungrouping and repeating the shadow thing etc) it no longer happened and no longer dropped faces.

it seems strange if this just were an issue with small faces (presumably caused by the curves in this model) because you would think it should be repeatable under the same conditions.

anyway, try messing around with groupings and you may be able to isolate the issue.

    • RE: Sun path timing seems wrong

Ah, thanks guys. I was using geo-referencing so I didn't notice the time zone was wrong (I thought I had checked everything!) - that accounted for the few hours difference. Guess I will just abandon geo-referencing for the time being, but at least my faith in sketchup sun is restored..

    • Sun path timing seems wrong

Hi..i have been using sketchup for quite a while for (amongst a great many other things) basic checks on solar access to find ideal orientations for windows and shading devices locations on houses that I do. It's usually fairly rough, but gives a good idea of the sort of heat load / shading required and when.

Recently I have had to prove shading to neighbouring property at a particular time of day. So I typed my time into the shadow settings and the result looked very different from the one in my revit model. I checked the angles and it appears to be a few hours out. Its no big problem as I have the revit model.. but it has made me question the accuracy of the whole sun path thing in sketchup. Anyone else come across this problem?

(sketchup 7.1pro.. win xp.. google earth location.. north point checked against survey..)

      thanks..

ahh...i did (almost) that exact thing (wrong) four or five times
then beat my head on the desk four or five times..
deadlines will do that to you!

thanks guys, got my sanity back

    • Make unique texture from multiple faces

i think i am going crazy...
i am trying to make a unique texture with a combination of lines and faces ie. draw some lines on a face and select the whole face including lines and make a texture. i have done this before, and dimly remember it being really quite simple. but i cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it again.
i'd really appreciate it if anyone can restore my sanity..

    • RE: Sticky situation

      daveg
the only way to do this reliably is to separate the walls from the rest of the dwg
this is best done before you bring the file into sketchup, either by blocking the walls (which should import as a block into sketchup) or wblocking the walls into a seperate drawing and importing that drawing
i don't know of any ruby scripts which can import individual layers, so if you don't have acad you can workaround by switching off all layers apart from the walls layer and then making them into a group
if they are not on a different layer, there is not much else you can do

    • RE: Issue trying to push/pull a rectangle

if it helps, I too have had all sorts of oddness with older ati cards
things wouldn't select at all or multiple select or even multiple cursors / selection rectangles
the worst was an old mobile radeon card which crashed sketchup and caused my screen to go fuzzy
can i recommend upgrading graphics drivers and / or deselecting all opengl acceleration options
this seemed to help a little for me
