    • HELP Noob with Flowify!

      Hi Everyone,

I'm somewhat new to the forum so please forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong place.

I need some help with the Flowify Plugin. I've watched several videos and that it was simple enough to understand but obviously I'm a noob and can't get it right.

So basically I am trying to create a specific par of sunglasses and have drawn the design flat, Push Pulled to the thickness I want. Then I created the curve/shape I want it to bend to.

I put that Target face/shape in it's own group. I then created a Base Face and put that in it's own group. Next I created Target Lines to and from Base/Target Face, put those in a group and then Grouped all 3 together.

I place my half sunglass design in it's own group. I select both groups, go to Flowify but get this multiple error message.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or if there is another way I can bend my glasses to my desired shape.

Thank You, Any help is greatly appreciated! I have attached a few images.

      Mike

You could maybe build-in a few blemishes, but for an overall granular texture it might be better to investigate methods of physically abrading/distressing the finished surface.

Okay thanks! I think I probably will have to go that route.

Thanks again all for the help!!

      Thanks guys!

Yeah I mean scaled. I had planned on doing a 1/48th scale tarmac complete with aircraft tie downs and didn't want a smooth surface. I had started drawing last night a little squared section of texture that I would individually push/pull certain pieces to get some texture then was just going copy and paste this over the whole tarmac, but do you think that would be too much geometry for the file and for shape ways?

I wonder if I'd be better off just using there tan sand stone material if that would actually get me the texture I want?

Scaled size was gonna be 12" x 12" base.

    • Concrete Surface, How to? (Actually 3D Texture)

      Hey Guy's,

I was wondering how do you create an actual concrete surface on a slab that I intend to have 3D printed? I'm not talking about wrapping a image texture on top, I'm wanting actual dimples and I guess rough surfaces on my 3D printed model, so that when I go and airbrush paint it myself it looks like concrete?

Is there a way to do this?

      Thanks

      Yes they are.
Select a white face, right click choose orient faces in context menu.

Thanks guy's, that fixed my problem! Learned something new!! 😍 πŸ‘

Okay I'm back with a model that I'm extremely happy with shape and size wise, but theres a problem. When I go to export my 3D model to a .DAE file so I can load to shapeways, all the areas in blue in my 2D jpg do not show up. They are blue like this in the actual file, don't know why they came out like that.

I used the Curviloft plugin to archive this. Any ideas what my problem is? I'm so frustrated! 😒

I also would suggest using Artisan, However learning how to create a good proxy takes practice, here is a quick first go, I could probably get a much better result with more details/dimentions or even plans.

Wow holly crap thats really close! Nice job.

Yeah I kinda understand now what you mean by getting a good proxy, just from looking at yours. As for dimensions I really don't have any, was just using the pics to compare and size to other 1/1 items.

      Thanks again!!

You'll need a plugin, either Fredo6's Curviloft or TIG's Extrusion set.

I know this is a dumb question so bare with me, so either of these 2 plugins would work just by having a basic side and top profile drawn?

    • Textures 3D Printable?

      Hey Everyone,

I had a quick question. One of my many projects is to create a scale concrete tarmac aka flight line for my model aircraft. What I wanted to know was, I plan to draw this and have it 3D printed, is there a way to add that concrete texture to my model so it prints that way and looks like concrete instead of just a plain smooth surface?

      Thanks

    • Best Way to draw this object?(Pic Inside)

      Hi Guy's,

I am a newbie at this but I'm learning more and more every day. I am trying to draw this complex object. It will be for my 1/6th Figures. This is the item I'm trying to draw, it's a Manta Strobe Lite. My problem is I can't get that final round shape right, I'm left with this block looking thing. I first did a side profile outline, then a top view profile outline, then push/pulled both, combine the two, then made the hole cut out for the cap with battery, then I cut in the sides but can't figure out how to get that final shape, I'm stuck.

Should I go about drawing it a different way? I got the cap & battery just the way I want it so thats fine.
Any help is greatly appreciated! πŸ˜„ πŸ‘

    • RE: Problems combining objects together....Help

Thanks guy's for the help much appreciate it!!

      Tig,
I tried your suggestion first, I blew it up huge, tried that and that solved my problem. 😍 Thanks a lot, I didn't know about drawing things already to there size could cause problems like I had, being that it was such a small item.

Now I just gotta figure how to get my tubbing in there and get that drop off/slope on each side of that tubing and I'm done.

      Thanks again!

    • Problems combining objects together....Help

      Hi,

My name is Mike, I am a newbie to this forum and Sketchup. I am using Sketchup 8 on iMac OS Lion.

I am trying to draw a part for a 1/6th scale figure. This is the 1:1 item I am trying to make:

      http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f35/Mike5401/For Sale/4295061865_fb6cb5a855_o.jpg

      http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f35/Mike5401/For Sale/4295061845_72e450a671_o.jpg

I have the basic side profile, top/bottom profile done, cap with battery attached done and the tube that will be inserted into the Lite that will house the cap/battery, plus the little side logo.

My biggest problem right now is, I know I must some how combine the top/bottom piece with the side profile to get my basic 3d design, but when I go to lay the 2 pieces into each other and erase away the unwanted areas it starts leaving me with these sharp flat sapphires shooting out from all angles and can't figure why it's doing this.

Is there something I must do to avoid this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is where I'm at now before the combine.
