Without hijacking the tablet thread, I have a question about the new Tablet pc's and touch screen laptops.
Touchscreens have been around for yonks, but now it's available to the average Joe, in laptop form. Do they work with all the same apps that a usb tablet works? Has anyone got one and using it as a 'Art' tool?
The reason is I'm on the verge of deciding if I should get the 21" Cintiq or if a tablet / touchscreen laptop may have more to offer. They are by far cheaper, and totally stand alone.
It really depends on what you want to do with it!
I have a Cintiq 21UX but do not use for SketchUp. It
just does not work as well as a good mouse, for me
at any rate.
The Cintiq is good for doodling and art work, however
the slight delay can be annoying when doodling as this
is normally a fast working process.
I have only tried out a touchscreen laptop and found the
same delay thing annoying. Not many have decent resolution
but there are a few. From memory 1400x1050 was the best
I could find in this area, Toshiba M200.
You might have a look at this product,

It looks interesting but I didn't see a price so maybe
not available.
Here is a good rundown on tablet laptops,

My MS Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000 gave up
the ghost early this week. A nice mouse but I could
not use the magnify button with the Mac.
I got my hands on a RADTech BT500,
http://www.radtech.us/Products/BT500.aspx
its a neat mouse with good software which allows lots
of config setups. The best thing is that I will never
get stuck because of depleted batteries. The mouse comes
with Ni-HM batteries and a USB connection which allows
for recharging via the laptop!
Worth looking at

Memories, memories
I was there at the start with V1. I had been playing around with quite a few 3D programs but still took a weekly scour of the Net in search of that elusive 3D program.
When I initially stumbled on SketchUp I thought it looked a little unprofessional and childish but decided to give it a try anyway. After just jumping in I was able to produce a textured model of a small cottage in less than and hour without even reading the tutorials. I was jumping around the place! My wife and kids thought I had lost it!
While attending the 3D Base Camp in Boulder I got a tour from Jim Holman, one of the original @Last Team. Jim showed me the original @Last office and the rear rickety annex that housed the computer that hosted the forum. Its a wonder that we are where we are today but as they say, cream always rises to the top

Good idea ! I think this site should have a major emphasis
on Education (SketchUp and Modelling) in general.
Now ! I know Coen as we all do and he is fussy
so I imagine
he will want to see the tuts set up in a certain way. I suppose
its his call if he thinks there is scope and he will let us know.

Hey Green, I think these are really refreshing, well done. SU is not the ideal program for this type of work however.
Mike
Yes Guys, it is starting to look like a homely place. The SU Pro Forum
was getting me quite down and I needed a break from it anyway.
I'm just wondering now if this 'Pro Forum' will remain for Pro Users
or will be be seeing non Pro Users jumping in ?
What do you guys think ?
Mike
PS: Must stick a picture up there as it definitely help to communicate
better. Hey ! Tom ..... you ARE imagined how I thought you looked LOL
Errrrrr ........ very learned and sophisticated
Here is a Germany company with some quite ingenious parking systems,

Hi Guys,
I thought this topic would raise some interest as it did
with me.
I don't know the cost involved BUT I imagine it could not
be that prohibitive as the lift would NOT have to be highly
finished! Not to the same standard as a passenger (only)
lift with all the mirrors, chrome etc! Only one way to
find out, I'll email them for a ballpark figure :ewink:
I've been thinking about the problem of multiple car owners
and I think it would be possible to have a lift that would
have the option of driving forward (off) or reversing (off)
when at the living deck!
This way at least two car could be accommodated. And maybe
more if the lift was called up or a sliding floor was brought
into the system to allow cars to be shuffled on the deck. Heck
you could have 4 or five cars up there thus allowing more space
for tree planting etc at ground level
I've discovered another interesting product while on my quest
but will start a new topic for this.

Hi Guys,
I'm doing some research on the latest mods and cons in the world of apartment design. I came across this very clever design idea, CarLoft.
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&langpair=it%7Cen&u=http://www.carloft.de/v0/htdocs/index.php
While I like the idea I can see some problems. I would imagine that the residents of a 250 Sq.M. apartment would own / use two cars! Still I'd say there would be a possible design solution.
Hi Guys,
Part of the project that I'm investigating
involves a semi-basement car-park / store area.
I'm familiar with the costs involved in damp
proofing and thought I'd see what is on the
market.
I found this company, http://www.hycrete.com/
They have invented an additive for concrete
which appears to lower the cost of water proofing
also they suggest that Hycrete(d) concrete can
now be re-cycled more easily and fall into the
βCradle-to-Cradleβ category .... interesting!
I like the idea of 'I'm popping out to mow the
roof lawn!' ..... again maybe not!

For me the most important feature in a mouse is
that the wheel does not 'click' as its being
rotated. I find the MS Wireless Optical Mouse
4000 hard to beat.
If you are interested in this type of config you might
have a look at this http://www.perific.com/
I bought one some time back and use it occasionally, its
very hard to get away form the traditional mouse
Thanks Cheffey, must check that program out, looks useful.

Hi Guys,
This may be of interest for anyone that needs a powerful
portable computer, its the Flextop by http://www.nextcomputing.com/
Only problem is the $11,000 price tag, ouch!
Mike

It worked fine for calls but was not able to
go on the Net (via Nokia 6300) to check emails.
I must contact them to see is this is possible
or in the pipeline.
