I hope this is the right place to post a question about fredo scale.

I find the tool very useful and will start by thanking you for making it. I would like to thank you with a donation when things are more fiscally condusive.

Now, I build cabinetry etc and often a face frame on a cabinet will have multiple drawers. I have used fredoscale to stretch the cabinets to a taller dimension (or shorter as the case may be) with complete success with all members maintaining their original dimensions except the height or width. However on face fronts with multiple openings I can not find a way to stretch the front taller and have the openings for multiple drawers increase uniformly.

Can FS do this or am I asking too much at this time? I just wondered if I wasn't using the tool to it's capabilities.
      tia!

    • RE: Right Click Measurement?

I am not sure I understand the difficulty. However, I drew a rectangle 2' square. I then invoked the tape measure tool and started a measurement at one corner and began a measurement along one side of the rectangle then typed 12"/enter. SU made a guide point at 12" from the starting point. Then I typed 14"/enter and the tape measurement moved the guide at 12" to 14".

I know that users of cad programs must "tab" to the dialog box which I think is what confuses many people. I noted that once a tool is chosen the type of information to be input appears next to the tool bar input box.(measurement, angle, length etc) after an initial selection (point, line, surface etc) the field in the tool bar input box turns white. A white box indicates SU is ready for input. You do not have to select the box, tab to the box, click on the box etc. Just type!

You may change the input as many times as you wish as long as you do not move the tool (or as long as you move the tool back after moving it at which point the dialog box will read 0)

    • RE: Arc

I also have an arc question.
When drawing an arc at a corner of a rectangle "sometimes" I can get an inference where the arc turns bluegreen infering a tangential alignment with the side of the rectangle. Often I have trouble getting the inference. Whats the secret to getting the inference more consistantly?

    • RE: Tape measure ?

yeah Gaieus if you draw rectangle in left or right parallel view it is placed on the green blue axis'. I find it strange that this is just getting noticedin v 7.

I tested v 6 and the bug does not exist in that version.

    • RE: Tape measure ?

I am assuming it is because in parallel projection the axis isnt "seen" as having a specific point in space unless there is an object to select or from which to get an inferance. If the view is skewed slightly making the third axis viewable, then the selection can be made. Unless that is done you are trying to select 0,0,? as the origin (for example). But if you draw an entity anywhere in the model area it has something from which to infer. I don't think it's a bug but.. think about it.

hmmm it is kinda weird though.

    • Time Tracker

Anyone consider a time plugin to track the time on specific SU models? An idle time tracking would be nice too when the mouse doesnt move for say 3 minutes.
      Does this sound useful, possible?

    • RE: Mortise and Tenon Ruby

Seems to function ok. I got one splat. Also the zip file creates two folders and I had to copy the rb to plugins manually.

Actually this is pretty handy. I can use it to make all the parts for shaker style panel doors.

It can also be used to make the rabbited panels for solid panel shaker doors...but you have to know the lengths.

    • RE: Woodworking ruby.

I cannot get this to work. I create a component board, edit, place construction lines, close, select, open the drilling and milling ruby, enter anything and it does nothing. The other wood working drilling works fine.

      Edit: figured it out! Thanks.

    • RE: List of International Lumber Sizes Needed

      @unknownuser said:

      onsite adjustments are normal practice.

Which is exactly the issue. This is why "# comments" in a ruby would exist. Actual dimensions of assemblies such as multiple cabinets or roof structures grow as they are assembled irl requiring adjustments at some point. Bird block lengths between trusses are trimmed as needed to keep trusses on layout.
Assemblies of laminated products from manufactured sheetgoods may have caused the manufacturers to reduce dimensions to accomidate additional layers of adhesives in response to a specific but major market share of their product....or it may have been an attempt to satisfy the needs of imperial and metric standards simultaniously.
Interesting but how is it relevent to ruby programming methods? I hope we don't intend to write .rb files that automatically adjust 3/4==23/32 else if etc.
As a cabinet maker 1/32 only matters sometimes. Uniformity is of more importance. Solid lumber varies considerably from moisture as well as production. Such variations are not controllable large scale given vast climate variations/time/logistics. Solid lumber will be made uniform by the user. Engineered products will not so it makes sense that engineered products need be held to more stringent standards. I feel confident that profit governs the standards.
I'm still not sure how this information would be of relevence in woodworking programming language...I am interested...just ignorant.

    • RE: List of International Lumber Sizes Needed

This is a humorous thread asking about acceptable variations and tolerances in production of plywood that is "always" 1/32 less than that by what it is commonly refered even though it is stamped 23/32...which is what it "always" is. Perhaps it is tolerances and variation in language or nominclature that is the issue. If this variation is to be coded into a ruby, I am going to be very confused. Would I follow it with a ._s or a ._i ?
If plywood sold at the yard is stamped 23/32 and there is an "acceptable" 1/32 tolerance, but it's always 23/32...why do we call it 3/4" plywood then claim it's a tolerance issue and within spec?
Does 3/4" plywood even exist anymore?
