re: seat limit and licenses

God day, I am The LEGO companies Sketchup admin and wonder would like to include the latest Fredocorner release to our plugin collection.

The company scripts a SU package with plugins included, Sketchucation should not be part of the basic package as most users won't use the Sketchucation plugins and it adds a level of complexity. Some users might use FredoCorner, most not. (maybe 5 -15 users)

I wonder how to best approach the licensing issue as it will be hard administer individual seats / usage. Would that mean I need to install the SUcation plugin and seat license for the users that actually need Fredo corner? I'm also worried about budget for individual seats run up compared to the SU budget. They might ask me to find an alternative if the setup is too complex/time consuming.

Will there be something like a studio license so I can avoid individual seats or floating licenses?

We use specific work flow in e.g. fixture design where use an existing component as base for a new one > make unique, change it, rename the component definition in the Entity Info > save as new component. SketchUp suggests the filename of the original component NOT the current new definition name (even after renaming it as described) has led to a couple of mistakes overwriting the old files in our database.

Discussed this issue in the beta tester board but apparently there is a good reason why definition names and file names don't match. I didn't think make unique- change - save as is such an uncommon workflow but what do I know. I thought it was a bug.

They suggest a plugin could match it - is there anything out there? Otherwise we have to copy paste the name manually every time...

Only works for SU 2017. Is there an update in scope or do you know of a similar plugin to drop stuff at random in a basket for example? Really hope for a 2019 update - such an awesome plugin.

Is there any smart plugin that hides all edges (not faces) in several components at the same time? I have rather large model made og subgroups with lots of lines. I used to hide in wireframe manually but isn't there a smarter way? There is always on in S

I'd like to create a component that can't be streched more than 240cm but when I resize jumps to weird sizes instead of just not scaling over 240cm width.

I was wondering if there is a plugin that lets you analyze what a Skp. file is made of and what takes up file size. E.g. I have taken over a huge .skp file and want to check if it's large because the textures were saved in high res without compression.

window > model > statistics let's you only see how many textures/ polygons etc are but not the size.

In a perfect world, I'd find a plugin that reduces all textures to max 1024 pixels and compresses them...

any news on the texture scaling problem? I'm trying to create a DC that is only scalable on the x-axis and that does not stretch the texture, rather repeats it like if I moved the end by hand in a normal operation inside the component...

Would the only alternative be to break the inside up into smaller pieces that repeat? (a la "DC fence")

I'm running SU8 on windows 7/64bit.Both the work file .skp & .skb backup sit on my local desktop. I copied them there to avoid the autosave over the server but the 0.skp swap files are still being tried to save on the server, e.g. material library. Whenever my PC is stuck in autosave back to server I cut the VPN, a 0.skp warning appears and save manually.

Attached a screenshot of preferences > files. All linkes used to point to the server so I just changed models and export to the desktop - do you think that would help?

I don't really get the autosave feature. When working from home I noticed that Sketchup saves a temp file "0.skp" in whatever folder I browsed last, and not straight to the autosaves file on my desktop.

That is quite annoying since I deliberatly placed my model on the desktop to avoid up and downloading to a remote folder. Still, every now and then SU freezes for 10 mins uploading a temp file to an obscure location on my work server.

Any workaround for this apart from cutting the VPN connection?

I'm trying to import all buildings surrounding Times Square back into SU, some are shown 3D like the attached but I can't see a way to import them. The rest are geo located and available in the google warehouse.

Has anyone an idea how to work around this?

I've installed Jim's Draw Construction Lines plugin. I works fine but I can't type any values in the VCB - is this a bug with the newer SketchUp versions? I'm using the latest 8 pro on a 64bit Windows system.

I'm sketchup admin for a small department doing retail & exhibition design. Right now we are looking into automating price calculations instead of counting components manually and filling in excel sheets.

I briefly tested the generate report function after adding material numbers and price to dynamic components. The raw excel table contains all the info needed but also too much other info. An excel wizard could probably filter the info and link to other excel lists- which I am not.

I would guess I'm not the first one looking into that problem and was wondering if anyone has experience with this type of thing. Maybe there are already simplified plugins out there?

Having the same problem as well. Only thing to do is to undo and retry. Happens especially when selecting text- the formatting jumps automatically to the top in the family. Let me guess you are using PC not Mac?

yes I use this great plugin when randomly placing components. But sometimes you just want to place a component manually with eye measure. I simply find it annyoing to use extra clicks when copying. Wouldn't it be much easier when SU would stay in copy mode, meaning that the last copied element would still be active, with the same origin and then you only left click to place it again and again?

A good example is the "left click reverse face" ruby, saves a lot of time & clicks. I was imagining there would be something similar for easy copying.

Little off topic- but thanks for resolving my flip-book problem! Didn't realize that SU exports animations also as single frames.

Ever tried to show a client an "off-line" animation? Works great!

How can I keep copying things with only a left click without hitting Ctrl and a click for origin? I don't want to array things or spray a component, merely place the same by hand here and there with a single left click.

This sounds very basic but until now I could not find the right plugin. Maybe you guys could point me in the right direction.
