    • RE: Can a car be art?

      The definition of art is:

      @unknownuser said:

      art[ahrt]–noun:

      1. the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.

That is the definition, and in that definition it says "or of more than ordinary significance" which means a car can be art.
      Unless someone objects this.

    • RE: Circular/Spiral Building Help

May I ask, where is this?

A bit more research on the building itself will prove powerful in the end.
And I have a bit of an idea of how it might turn out...
Here is a small and quick attempt and I want you to tell me if you like it, I don't want to waste your time with a tutorial that you don't need.

    • RE: Trouble creating a 3D model in Sketchup . . .

I'm sorry but the link you gave appears to be broken. I would love to help but uploading some pictures would be equally as helpful.

But in the end if it turns like a wheel, try using Proper Animation or Mover plugins. They are simple and easy to use.
If its a bit more complicated and requires physics, try Sketchy Physics but it isn't easy to use though.

It can be cool but you must be very careful to make sure the roof is waterproof and to let the rain flow away easily.

Hmm... I'll keep that in mind next time. The show I got this from was somewhere where they probably never seen winter before.

I'm not quite sure I follow. Are you asking if outside renderer's can use the flightpath created by this plugin?

If so, I think the answer is yes, since my flightpath can be exported as a series of scenes - 1 scene per frame of camera path. So as long as a renderer can be set to render one frame per SU scene, then it should be able to take advantage of the camera recorder path.

I asked if anyone would be interested in testing this back a while ago when I released the most recent version, so far no one has tested it to see if it works though.... πŸ˜’

      Chris

No you got it wrong, Twilight is inside sketchup renderer. I won't mind being the first one to step my foot out to do so.

I read a little about FOV but still can't quite understand the benefits. Would appreciate a quick run-down.

      Cheers

I'll give it to you how I learned it, basicly you see more or less depending on your FOV. And it also sometimes can avoid nasty cut through's, I'm not to familiar of it to give you a good explanation.
If you take photographs I can explain it more easier using lens, as in when you type in a lens value- as in 14mm -your modeling window will look like your looking through a 14mm lens.

In summary, a lower FOV will avoid cut through's. Higher FOV's will result in them when zoomed to near.

I would like to ask a very interesting question.

For renderer's like Twilight that can be used in SU simple scene animation, can your plugin tool adapt too?
This would benefit me before I decide to get a renderer.

      Thanks,

    • RE: Add a button to Large Tool Set

Are you trying to say that you want to take out/add into/rearrange the Large Tool Set?
      If so not possible.
The large tool set is basicly (from left to right) the Principle, Drawing, Modification, Construction, Camera and Walk through toolbars all in one. So its possible to make the Large Tool Set without having it out, that means you can choose any of these sets and modify with some others-or just plainly re-arrange them to your bidding.
Mac users have the option to choose what tools they want in their sketchup, just so you know.

    • RE: The "Duh!" thread (aka the Doh! thread)

OK, I'll share a duh moment.

THE COMPONENT DIALOG BOX IS JUST A MINI 3-D WAREHOUSE WINDOW!
I found out by trying to search for a component and ended up with the same search results as the first page in the 3-D warehouse.

WARNING, THE FOLLOWING DUH MOMENT IS PROVEN TO DECREASE PRODUCTION BY 1000%!

OK, first I found one of the antics figures off the warehouse (not through the component dialog window). Now all antic models have a link to the same youtube video, so I clicked on it and next thing you know I have youtube fully working inside sketchup! πŸ˜† I got nothing done that day...

      Karlheinz

I'm not sure if you already know this but you can upload files if they are not big enough (I'm unsure of the limit), right below your posting window there is this upload tab.
Remus has given a full tutorial on how to upload file (pictures in this case) here
      Hope it helps!

    • House Practice!

So I decided to make a house with no plans at all, and here is how it turned out.
I haven't textured anything yet because I'm no good at choosing good colors.
If you don't like my furniture (including my stairs) you can delete the layer of it.
The Model works great with layers and the outliner.
      Enjoy!
