      Hi all,
A quick lighting experiment on a free 'model' model from the net (.3ds original).
      Rendered with VrayforSketchup.

I didn't elaborate the materials....Just went in for the light effect.
A small Pshop touch up using superposed layer copies with different blending ('screen' and 'opacity').

Feel free to testosteron (and/or comment) on it πŸ˜„

@Solo, you asked me to render 'dirty'...is this something you had in mind? (awaiting your half of the bargain now πŸ˜‰ )

      Cheers,

    • RE: Smart Car

      Jason,
In Maxwell, You can set the 'intensity' for each environmental (HDRI) channel.
For instance you can increase the intensity of the 'illumination' chanel to e.g 10 (instead of default 1) to get brighter output.
You can change the intensity levels for each channel seperately (doesn't have to be the same value for all).

In this case, you can enable all the channels (= uploading the hdr in the refraction/reflection/background channel)except for the 'illumination' channel and let the physical sky take care of the light.

      Cheers,

      Very cool rendering Jason.

I think using a HDRI sky image in the background/reflection/refraction slot of the environment settings (Maxwell Studio)would definitely improve the reflections on the carpaint mat...For the moment it only reflects whites and pale grays coming from the cardboard surrounding.

Nice to see a clean Maxwell image.

      Thanks guys!

...I added a little more adventure to the scene :
The shark is 3D. Blood is Pshop. Waves are 'sandboxed'...I wish SU had more tools like the sandbox to make those waves look more real.

Wasn't there also a new 3D plugin for Photoshop CS3 that lets you uv-'paint' straight on a 3D object?
      Anyone experience with that ?

Thank you Rob and tinanne for the kind words.

Doing those sails isn't that hard I assume, Soap Skin Bubble will get you a long way, if you want more control though I refer you to my way of making organic shapes in SU http://www.sketchucation.com/scf/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2071&start=15

Nice tip  ...Will make use of that.

No I didn't model it myself....πŸ˜„ I imported the model as .3ds and added a water surface with bump map and rigged it up to render.

I wouldn't know how to begin a model like that. 😳

I do want to learn, however, how organic shapes (like sails) can be uv-mapped properly in sketchup ...
a thing I just can't figure out. It would be great to have some extra tools for that in SU...
      Wishlist? πŸ˜‰

      Thanks Remus.

You are right...I am not fond of water color renderings in general, but I thought I would try it anyway. I had a discussion about it on the Podium forum where I posted the images, and the conclusion was that it's a personal taste thing.

As it seems to be 'question hour' πŸ˜‰:
Does KT also has an export geometry function (to .obj, .3ds)?

That material editor GUI looks much better than the previous...
The instancing for trees as shown in the images also looks promising.

      Thanks Dzinetech and Rob..

      @Rob,
For the chrome chair legs, I assigned a (very dark) grey to the surfaces and put 'reflection' value to 100%.

      Hi all,

I tried to add some 'domestic noise' to this image as I got the remark my renderings are often kind of 'clean' . Bring on the Dyson. πŸŽ‰

      I hope you like it.

      Nice work Fletch!
Good to hear the SU plugin made such a progress.

Is this image rendered with the official KT release or an internal version?

      Thanks Jackson for the explanation.

      @Ross,
Indeed the car is no where near the real thing as it comes to material use.
      Thanks for pointing that out.
Maybe I'll re-render some day with correct mats.
