RE: Substance and Sketchup Workflow
@jql said:
I'm taking advantage of Thea's Substance Converter so the simplest workflow for me is as follows:
- Sketchup Model;
- Export to Blender using Blendup (free for up to 1000 faces wich is not much so better buy it);
- UV Unwrapping within Blender with Smart UV Project (wich is automatic, fast and easily tweakable);
- Export as Collada;
- Import collada into sketchup and run Cleanup3 to merge faces keeping UV;
- Import into Substance Designer and work your texturing;
- Publish your substance as high as 16k textures (If you have enough GPU ram, I have a Titan X)
- Convert Substance to Thea material using Thea converter;
- Apply material in Collada model using Thrupaint to keep UV modes.
- Render!

RE: Who has upgraded his pc or has bought a new one recently?
I made the most significant and noticeable change in the last 6 months or so... I bought a quality SSD. My computer is like another machine. I kid you not... I hit restart and my computer is back to the main screen and ready in 30 seconds. Photoshop opens in a snap instead of loading. SSD Baby... SSD.

Don't you just wish? And when you update it will break them all too...

RE: Ivy Generator
We have a built in plugin for Ivy now... Let me find it.
Here it is...

RE: RCP and lighting plan
I do both pbacot... Window/Door symbols and Lighting in SU. All the rest in LO.

RE: RCP and lighting plan
I think inserting models, scrapbook items, copy and pasting all of the insertion tools confuse autocad converts a bit when the first come on board. Something odd about the selection of the point of use.

RE: Simple Building Generator
Could be very useful for game building... Especially flight sims where you could trace out a rough draft over sat images. Keep it up.
-
RE: RCP and lighting plan
I started putting my symbols inside of my components and putting them on another layer. I can turn them on and off and they are already with the doors and windows and fixtures.

RE: RCP and lighting plan
Well, I thought my solution was ingenious... If I do say so myself.
I've always had a hard time with cutting my floor plan sections too... You need them to cut through every opening, but sometimes that just doesn't work out. That's why I leave my openings cut floor to ceiling.
as you see in this image, my floor to ceiling line work allows the cut to be anywhere and still show and opening, albeit less detailed than one cut through a window.

RE: Profile Builder 2 Problem
so what is the vertical rotation option for?
Mitch made a plugin that just about does it. I just need to figure out the process a bit better.
-
RE: RCP and lighting plan
I think you're missing the point... a reflected ceiling plan does look down. but when you cut a section above it you have lots of things getting in the way of a proper plan view.
so you set the section to look upwards (reflected) and then mirror the referenced sketchup viewport using the scale tool. this gives you the view downward with the reflected detail.

RE: [Plugin] Simple Building Generator
very nice... now all I need is a city to map.
-
RE: RCP and lighting plan
you make it look upwards to see the reveal and details that you're supposed to see. Then you just scale -100/% up or side to side and it reverses it while keeping it locked to the updating reference file.
-
RE: RCP and lighting plan
I use this plugin that CadFather made... it has a bottom view to go along with all the top, side, front etc. Don't know if Bottom view is a native command or not. But I use it to show my reflected ceiling plan, I copy my entire floor plan scene over and then hit the bottom view button. you'll have to add another section cut, I copy the current section cut and rotate it 180 just like it was an object.
Have you downloaded my symbols pack or my layout template with built in Su model?

*Please note, there's a $60 Enrollment fee if upgrading a SketchUp Pro 8 or older license, or if your Maintenance and Support has lapsed more than 30 days.
If I skip upgrading between versions and upgrade to 2015 instead, will I have to purchase a brand new, full price license?
No. If you skip upgrading for one year, you would pay an upgrade cost of $120 for single-user license or $200 per seat for network license, plus a enrollment fee of $60. The total cost will be $180 and $260 respectively if upgrading after skipping the upgrade for one year or more. -

I'm an old man so I have been using windows since The release of 3.1. I have used every other operating system known to man including alpha/os systems from IBM, Amdahl and Fujitsu that never got out of the can. My desktop 8 looks the same now as my 3.1 did...just a background screen and a bunch of icons. There has never been a learning curve because essentially the core functionality has not changed. There is no such thing as privacy on the Internet. You are just fooling yourself to think so. The most bullet proof OS in terms of security is still Microsoft. The trouble that most users experience related to security they introduce themselves with third party security products like Norten/McAffey...etc...etc. The security guys are the worst of the worst.
The fact is there is nothing even close. Microsoft owns the desktop business and if you are doing serious computing you do it on a desktop or laptop not a handheld toy. Microsoft also owns the application development business. 4 out of 5 developers have the Microsoft knowledge base on their desktop so you can guess where most new software will run.
That was a long winded and somewhat stuck-up way of saying sorry, there just is no alternative for you unless you are willing to put up with a lot of frustration and contortion.I am on my feet, standing, attentively clapping with fervor...

RE: Profile Builder 2 Problem
The rotation isn't constant, so I put it at 90. as in stay 90 to the plane?

Looks like the rumors were kinda right... But looks like they're going to rope you into subscriptions... Like everyone else and their cousin.
