      It doesn't have to be fully manual.

      If your terrain is all smooth, you can drape in the terrain copy and the select the surfaces inside the drape lines with one click.

      Then it's just a matter of grouping everyone of this drapes and layer/scene organization. Pretty quick if you ask me.

    • RE: Share scenes across models

      The manual way of doing this is much faster if you have already a model with all scenes.

      1 - You save 3 copies of the model that has all scenes.
      2 - You delete everything in that model
      3 - You open copy 1 and import model 1
      4 - Do the same for copy 2 and 3 and you now have all models with same scenes.

      If you haven't got every scene in one model you can copy only the scenes you need from other models into the model with most scenes and save some work, and start from line 1 after that.

      Besides Eneroth's plugin, if you install Thomthom's "camera tools", you can also easily copy camera properties from one model to the other.

      If you use a plugin to copy camera positions between scenes you can, after that, copy properties between scenes by ticking/unticking the scene properties boxes on SU native scene manager.

      I hope this helps.

    • RE: [Plugin] Components manager plugin

      I thought you where refering to nesting levels inside Xrefed components.

      Just to clarify, even if I'm sure you're familiar with the concept of Xref there might be someone else not familiar with it. A Xref is a .skp file that has been referenced as a component inside a model (TIG is also able to reference .dwg files with his Xref Manager plugin but that's not the scope of your plugin).

      So imagine a model of an house that has 2 floors:

      • The house might be a component that you can "save as" to a file, Xrefing it.
      • But inside the house there might be many other components like the 2 floors, kitchen, bathrooms, closets, etc...
      • All of those components might be Xrefed too so you get a lot of Xrefs with other xrefs inside. This can be called nested Xrefs
      • With your plugin it's very easy to "reload" or "save as" multiple components at the same time;
      • It's also easy to choose specific components to "reload" or "save as" and it tells wich ones need to be updated, wich is excellent;
      • What I thought you were talking about was the ability to auto update only the components that were more deeply nested inside other components that needed an update, without having to update all components above.

      Example:

      • Inside house component there's 1st floor component;
      • Inside 1st floor there's the kitchen component;
      • Inside kitchen there's a counter with a sink component;
      • All of this components are xrefed;
      • You changed the sink component in the file and all of this nested Xrefs are outdated;
      • If your plugin would be able to automatically detect that the sink component was the only component interfering with this "outdate" status, and would be able to update all only by reloading the sink component, this would be a wonderful time saver.

      That was what I was thinking of, but it might be a bit complex.

      Best regards and thanks again,

      Oh I see now! What you mean by levels is revisions.

      So if you save a lot of revisions or versions of the same component the latest version will be the one the plugin finds to reload. Though that is not what I thought it is, it is useful indeed!

    • RE: Was this done in sketchup?

      I'm sorry but they do seem CAD drawings to me. Too much 2D and too much flat "hatch" colors to be sketchup.

      Could be done with SU too, but I bet they would not be that simple or with such heavy 2D treatment.

      You're right!

      I took out all "àáéíóúâãõç" characters from component and group names and it's now showing what seems to be the full list of components and groups from my probmodel.

      It's really fast in doing that too, so this might also be an outliner replacer... and if it is... you've made me a very happy SU user!

      Hi inteloide,

      Great plugin you have here. Fills a lot of my needs for xref and component management in models.

      I get a script error after trying to open a complex model in SU 2013.

      When I start SU2013 it autoloads a template file with 2 components one is there because of a plugin.

      If I open a particular existing file, with lots of components (618 Groups; 537 Component Definitions; 2548 Component Instances) I get a blank list where only those 2 previous components from the template file remain.

      If I refresh the list using the first button, I get no update, the two components are still there and I get the following error message:

      Component Manager Scripts.png

      However there are other files where this doesn't happen and the list becomes full immediatelly when I open them.

      The main difference I can remember between both files is that in the one that gives me the error I've been managing files/components with XREF manager plugin, from TIG.

      There is no info on Ruby console.

      If this info is not enough and you need something more, just tell me that I'll try to get it.

      Thanks and congratulations on your excellent work.

      Inteloide,

      I've been wanting something like this forever. Even if I don't deal with mechanic enginnering the amount of components and xrefs I use is very hard to manage with native SU tools.

      I'll give it a spin immediately and tell you about it's usage and any bugs I find out.

      Thanks and best regards,

      EDIT: I noticed only 5 downloads this is not consistent with the usefulness of your plugin. Did you try publishing it in Sketchucation Plugin Store. There is a form for that and that can get you a whole lot more downloads...

      TIG.

      A minor suggestion: would you consider renaming "Glued" to "Auto-Update"? I know you mean it stays glued to the section plane, but I find it more intuitive for new users and probably makes them think better before using. Maybe a simple thing could be written like "Auto-Update (slows model)"

    • RE: Layout View ports

      I'm sorry for my criptic answer. I don't usually give those.

      The fact is that if you use texts in sketchup and then rotate the viewport, texts will also rotate and you'll probably be annoyed with the result. So for good results what you should do is not rotate the viewport in layout but, do it in Sketchup. There's a lot of ways of doing it. One of the most effective is by using a plugin from Thomthom called camera tools.

      For your last question, that rotation handle on Layout doesn't infere to any angle...

      I hope I've helped this time, best regards,

      About the Bug that isn't one : There was a blanc space in the beginning of your “ #Insulation” material. If you use the right name “#Insulation” and recalculate the scene, you will see your material.

      LOL. Actually I'm starting to get worried by those spaces I'm always having them in materials sometimes... It must be related to space being the key for select tool, that cancels other commands. In those complex projects I tend to waste a lot of time looking for materials just to find them on top of the list...

      Sorry to have wasted your time on this...

      @pgarmyn said:

      Q :Would you consider adding a feature that would find loops in sections corresponding to groups inside other groups? : RS calculates group by group. Groups nor nested groups can interfere with each other. But I see other solutions to achieve the same visual effect. Thanks for this idea. 😄 I will work on it but it will take time. Actually I don't have much time. I started this plugin in march 2012. 😉

      Actually I'd prefer you didn't do it! It might seem strange but if you develop the plugin this way... I'll be forced to rethink and most probably change my modeling methodology completely, probably a lot of plugins I don't bother to think about will start making sense after all, Layout will never be the same again... You'll spread chaos in here, and you wouldn't want it because it seems you're actually trying to help!

      @pgarmyn said:

      Right now this feature and the fact that a lot of layers, materials and scenes are created that I don't need: I will work on it. But les layers, scenes … will give restrictions or strange behavior. I
      still have the 231 previous versions of this RS plugin, but I can already imagine the posts if they were published.

      Try it out and show me the result .... 😎

      Do you count versions late at night when you can't sleep? 😄

      Well it really feels like you put an great amount of effort in this as it has a lot of innovative and functional features.

      Yes I've noticed that too! It's very handy. I also notice that if you have a group within a component, it says you're inside a group too. What more could one need from context management plugins... 😎
