Wow!
So it imports SKP and KMZ but only exports KMZ?
Anyone tried to export from SU to Bonzai and back again in SU for rendering? Or similar workflow..

Well I suspect a workflow similar to Zbrush. With lower-mesh to higher-mesh normalmap extraction.
And then using normalmap(or displ.) + textures on a basemesh with realtively low polygoncount.Otherwise its quite useless
Im sorry. I must make it clear that I ment it would be hard to use for SU users with big polygoncountmeshes.
SU is 32 bit as well.
How are UVs made? Polypaint and then UNWRAP?
Amazing!

I wonder how heavy the models are

YIPPIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With GPU rendering under investigation this is interesting!
So what are the commersial alternatives for obj exports? A far from Su proexporters, that is. They never work for me.
Ive tried Okino, and that one work nicely. A tad expensive just for conversion. But still really good.

use the 8000 version of the renderer.. it runs faster on the 9000 series cards
It does doesent it? Got the 9500 gt. And there is 3 "resolution-alternatives", the icon on top with checkerboards.
There ought to be a shader mode. Where on could zoom in to a good cameraview in tranquility and switch back to rendering.
Maybe it does? just tried it for a few minutes.
Its fun anyway!
Ohh this looks interesting! An unbiased Lightup!
But then again its that issue of exporting to obj, everytime for rendering.
Aahhh Merci Pilou. Je n'ai pas vu.
Must use the search button a bit more
Hi! Maybe late answer..
Maybe??

Had problems with skp7 files last year, dont know if it has been resolved.
I too would like more information about this, my theory is following:
The way one model in Sketchup is totaly different from standard 3d packages.
For ex (in Sketchup) in a single plane, all geometry is disconnected unless you group it.
In a standard 3d package(for ex XSI) when you create a primitive cube.
The edges, points and faces all are grouped to that cube automatically, and not disconnected.
As if now, I get disconnected hard edges(from triangulation) when importing 3ds in XSI. Of course weldoption will help if grouping is allright, but it messes up the UV and flips faces.
So I guess if you wanna make a cube in sketchup that follows the principal of other packages. One will have to group all sides(polygons) and put those in a group(model)? Some hell of a workflow...
Hi Yanivkin!
I had similar problems before. 1rst step is to dubbelcheck that all the
files are where there are supposed to be. Plugins etc. Most problems Ive had with Sk2kt comes from that. Its been a pretty stable system so far.
Have you forgotten about Z brush? Have a copy on my computer running..
Although the interfaces are different I can definitely see a similarity between the 2.
Zbrush is recommended for Organic modeling and SU hard surface. Although it is possible for both modelingtypes in both of the programs.
Its the same push and pull strategies with finess tools.
I must say SU is THE most userfriendly program I ever haver used. So quick too
learn. Very logical approach. Z brush is a bit intimidating at first but also quite logical when one get used too it. I must confess I talking about Z.brush ver 2.5. Havent used ver3 so much yet. Have SU now

Well I have to make an exception concerning Luxology with regard to my comments on software developers.
I have received a very swift and helpful response and links provided to download the importer for OSX and PC.
A very good result. I will now bother to take a look at modo302
See what a little bit of ranting can produce
No but seriously. I got fairly fast response from Lux and they seemed helpful.
Lost my appetite about it all when I read about the SKP import troubles in the forum. Its a communtity release(what does that mean, beta?)
Thank you for your persistance Mr S, and please let us know how it works.
I agree a lot with you mrS.
However I did get an answer from Lux. They say it should be available. but I cant find it in my loginpage. So there is communication.
I dont want to jump to any conclusion too fast. But thats not the main problem anyway. Everything should be there in a trial.
When you download C4d demo you get it ALL(damn modules), XSI trial as well or at least used to be everything in it.
Try everything, buy what you like.
Anyway dont care. There is a lot of struggeling going on with the SU/Rhino importer at Modo forums right now.
@unknownuser said:
Well ... I tried the importer. Like some other folks over at the Lux forum, I cannot get it to work. And I thought it'd been really thoroughly tested, since its release was months overdue.
Very typical... I guess you tried with version6 files?
Uninstalling the demo right now....
Sorry to hear that Hope things work out.
Still no answer from Modo. Well... its only been one day..
@unknownuser said:
As far as Modo's interface, I guess compared to sketchup, it could be a little intimidating. Have you ever tried to use Blender, or Lightwave, or 3DS Max or any other true 3D studio?
Yes. I have used Zbrush alot. Its not quirky at all
Off course, Modo is a bit intimidating, its swamped with features. Like digging in
XSI for the first time. Was just gonna use it for rendering SKP files anyway,
dont have time learning a deep ap like this..
I think it is bad marketing not supporting the free version with their plugins Fryrender appears to be the same.
Probably the plugins have use of SU pro exporters as well
Well theres a cheaper alternative for importing skp and exporting (At least) 3ds.
http://www.3dpaintbrush.com/learnmore/default.aspx
I consider buying it just to be able to export 3ds with ease.
Havent tried it long enough to see if its consistent though.
It imports skp files. 99 euro.
Be aware though, plugin is for registred costumers.
Downloaded the demo yesterday and there where no plugin.
I conntacted support see what they have to say.
The program is huge! So many alternatives and windows I think my brain got stuck
First time ever I couldent navigate in a 3d program without a tutorial
It works! Of course.. But not with my current project...
Did a new simple scene and "save as 6" and it worked fine. Could open the
file in SU version 6.
Sometime my file got corrupted. Funny its only in the backwardsconversion Im
having difficulties with the model. Works with Kerky for ex.
I work on the model and if I come up with a new idea I save it with a different
name "save as". is that a bad workflow? Should one copy and paste in new SU window? Shouldent make any difference in my logic.
Anyway. It is (probably) not a bug then.
Hello!
Thank you all for answering!
That is very good to know.
When I now know that its the right way to convert, I can try harder.
Thanks!
