Thanks PC Moor have used your link successfully and now a happy camper. It is still frustrating having to do it this way but I guess this is how they stay in business.

3D Warehouse
I have SU Pro 2015 but have not used for a while due to retirement. Have I missed something dramatic? as I cant download models from 3D Warehouse anymore. I realise i cant do this anymore directly from SU but even when i try to save from the website then load into SU it tells me I cant download as i have an older version and need to update which i dont understand as some of the models I have tried have been modified in 2014 so should work with SU Pro 2015. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Accidently changing default colour
Hi Dave R
I have attached one of the affected models but stripped out all the interior furniture etc as this project hasn't reached the pubic domain yet. I found the offending colour (material23) and for the life of me I don't know where this came from, I removed it from the in model colours on the original and the default colours reverted back to normal, I have left the default faces as they were in the attached copy. I tried dragging a colour from the in model colours onto the back face default colour in an unopened group and this changed them to that colour - so I think this is what I had done accidently before. Regards & Thanks for your comments.

Accidently changing default colour
I need some advice on why I occasionally have accidently changed the default colour and how to rectify this. I think what I have done is when I have the paint bucket still open from painting a surface I have clicked on an unopened group with this colour and have not noticed it as it only affected the back faces and too late to use "Go Back"to rectify. Another time this has happened was when I dragged the materials/colour box down to the bottom of the screen a + sign appeared breifly then I notice the back faces has been coloured with a different colour.Any help appreciated.

Creating scalable vector graphic file in SketchUp
Could someone point me in the right direction please. I need to know how to create a SVG file in SketchUp Pro 8 so it can be used for laser etching. My drawing will be a 2D line drawing with some text but no dimensions. I will be creating the drawing from a PDF plan but will have to add more detail to this, what format is best to import the PDF into SketchUp for sharpness of lines to enable me to trace over accurately.

RE: Adding backgrounds in Photoshop
Massimo
I discovered what I was doing wrong, I had exported the mask as a 2D jpeg from SU. I rendered this in Shaderlight & the fit is perfect, the only problem is it has masked a couple of surfaces not selected - the mobile whiteboard surface & a jpeg image on the whiteboard on the wall??

I did have the sizings different, have corrected but mask size is still too wide (height is OK) closer than the previous but still not right - as per screen shot. Regards

RE: Adding backgrounds in Photoshop
This is amazingly simple and I get the results I want - It is great to know there are so many experienced SU people out there willing to share their knowledge, very rare these days. Your help is greatly appreciated, John.

RE: Adding backgrounds in Photoshop
Massimo
I have played around with this and followed your instructions however when I get to the stage of copying the mask to the added layer mask the size of the mask increases from the original mask layer size and I don't know how to resize it to fit. I have just started using Photoshop so it seems I may need to get some tuition. Many thanks for your valuable assistance, Regards John

RE: Adding backgrounds in Photoshop
Hi Massimo
Yes except the SU image will be rendered in Shaderlight. I have attached a render I have done using custom background setting as this is fairly typical of the application I need often. Unfortunately with custom backgrounds you can't manipulate them for focal distance or lateral position. I use artificial lighting in my scenes.

RE: Adding backgrounds in Photoshop
Hi Tim
No I probably didn't word my request correctly, what I meant was how I do the background I want to show as seen through the windows of my Sketchup model as a post production process in photoshop. I have seen the tutorial you sent and have used it for such things as signage on buildings etc and can see that it would work for background images too but I think it would be fairly basic. Daniel Tal touches on this topic in his book Rendering in SketchUp, unfortunately it is only a very brief overview. Many thanks for your reply, John

Adding backgrounds in Photoshop
Can anyone help me with pointing me in the right direction to find tutorials or information on how to add background images via Photoshop to interior scenes with windows. I have been using custom backgrounds but it is impossible to manipulate the image to the correct focal length & perspective. I am very new to Photoshop so would appreciate any help.

RE: In model colours
Hi Brooke
I am running Mac so don't have a dropper, I have tried selecting the colour on the model then looking in the entity properties but this only lists a definition number e.g. obj_000007 whatever this means? doesn't seem to be any corresponding reference in the in model colour chart. Excuse my ignorance but new to this.

In model colours
Hi, could someone tell me how to identify in the materials "in model" colours what colour has been used on models I have downloaded from 3D warehouse. As there can be numerous colours in the in model selection I find it difficult to find which particular colour to select when wanting to edit the material for rendering.

Picking colours
Hi All - I have just registered today and new to forums so look forward to learning something new. I have been using SketchUp for just over a year and am hooked! Last week changed from a windows PC to an iMac and have a quick question - when I was running SketchUp on windows PC I was able to "pick" colours from pdf/jpegs opened on my second screen and paint objects in SketchUp with this tool, the Paint/materials toolbox is slight different on Mac and doesn't appear to have this function - I found this feature extremely helpful when painting walls & fabrics to the specified colours - can anyone help Please? John
