All of us on the south end of Lake Michigan have been getting a steady dusting which is to continue through tommorrow and may be about 10/12" total. Always a crap shoot on where the bulk of the lake effect snow will dump. So far this winter it has been a bit east, but one never knows. All in all,for us, not a bad storm.

Hi Jim
Sorry to hear about your accident. Sounds like a pretty bad one. Hope it doesn't interefere with your planned trip to the Emerald Isle later in the year!
God Bless & get well soon.
Thanks Dermot,
We will have to take a rain check on the trip - we received notice that the reunion festivities were canceled because of University cutbacks, plus this leg may be healed by then but I have been assured I won't be up for the kind of walking good tourists like my wife and I would be doing. Just a setback - not really a cancellation!

RE: The SketchUp Fit Club Revived!
Good lead in artical Coen, lots of good tips. IMHO should a goal for everyone.
Testimonial time:
Today is the first day in over a week I have been able to look through the forum. Last Sunday I was in a freaky accident -I tripped in a building and was struck by falling framing lumber that broke my left femur! I had surgery that night, got a metal rod inserted, stiched up and was sent home Wednesday. the last few days I have been hopping around on crutches but healing well. The point of this - this last few years I have been eating properly and exercising to ward off cardiac issues and to make my knees feel better. Four years ago I took off 40 pounds (18Kg)and have kept it off. The knees feel pretty good. The exercising has given me strength and endurance. With the broken leg I would be a basket case if I was not in descent shape. As it is, the medical physical therapy folks are very pleased with my speedy recovery route. It will be a while before I am "dancing with the stars" but will be quicker because of taking care of the old body.

RE: Print does not work
Don't know if this is any help, I took a simple plan, used plan view, clicked print preview, checked "fit to page" "use model extents" and got a print that pretty much filled the letter size sheet. Is there some other drawing areas beyond the plan that the print command is seeing?? I notice you are on a MAC - don't know if that makes any difference, but does you printer work and play well with the computer otherwise? I wonder if it is a printer driver issue.

RE: Fountain Pen
Eric,
I also still love to have the pen/pencil in the hand for that "personal" capture. My primary weapons of choice are in the photo. Love the fat Mont Blanc (vintage 1982) but almost scared to carry it around. Some of the cheaper pens do a good job. I liked those Lamy pens, but haven't seen them around lately. Having a variety of points is good, and I have always been partial to chisel points. You can get a skinny or fat line on demand by rotating slightly. In the photo is an "Osmiroid" about 8 years old, Has a variety of nibs. I use three chisels, fine/med/bold. Also - like to dabble in pen/pencil sketches. Really like the FaberCastell solid graphite sticks.Nothing like the rich darks from a well pointed 3B or 6B. Must be carefull not to smudge however. and for ink color, I am partial to darker sepia tones. The Mont Blanc has never seen black ink.
Keep the sketching up and you never have to be afraid if you are caught away from the laptop.

Barry,
thanks for the link to spectrum and thanks for your taking time to help kids. I looked at the videos and followed the other tabs and think this will be an excellent help for the new program my friends are working on. I will be forwarding this to them today and will keep you posted on how it goes. Thanks again

You might also try exporting the drawing as a .dwg file and try printing from your cad program

RE: Would Like To say Hi
The countryside looks magnificent. Well displayed in the "panoramio". We were planning to use bus/train/tours for our travels and not rent a car, maybe we need to re-think that. Just hope I can adjust to driving on the left without being a public hazard.

Whereabouts in Ireland are you planning to visit - North or South of the border?
We will probably come straight across from Scotland which would probably have us landing in the north. We haven't picked any definite places yet - there seem to be so many - however my wife is interested in heading to the west coast to the Aran Islands which I hear are beautiful and are to wool sweaters what Murano island is to glass making.
...
Give me a shout if your coming North and I'll glady share a Guinness or twelve with you!!Your on-

I hope that our fellow members won´t mind my little digression.
Cheers!Just thought I would give an update. The group home director has finally approved installing GSU for the residents. He had heard about GSU but was not aware that they could download a free version. I will be doing some tutorials with the staff and residents soon. I will let you know how it works out.

RE: Would Like To say Hi
You're on Remus -our UK itinerary begins. Thanks for getting back to me
I have met a few SCF folks over the years. Met Alan Fraser and his son James at the SketchUp booth during the American Institute of Architects conventions in Boston 2008, he is along the travel path I think.

Would Like To say Hi
...to who ever might be in town along our travel route this Spring. Sherry and I are taking a major break -(three weeks)- to see things properly. First a week in and around Paris the beginning of May, for my school reunion (University of Illinois Versailles exchange program is 40 years old) That week is pretty much filled with reunion stuff but would like to have dinner-drink etc. with some SU-ers.
The following two weeks we plan to travel through the UK. This is new teritory for us. Tentatively the chunnel train from Paris (just have to do this) spend time in and around London, then head up to Scotland (Sherry's grandparents were born in Glasgow), back down to Wales, ferry across to Ireland then back to London-Heathrow for the trip home.
Any and all suggestions welcome (I will not entertain suggestions to stay home) and we would love to meet up with you if at all possible.
We have time to work on this. Not like me to be this early and proactive, but it is very much like my dear wife.Maybe we can build thread here on sights to see and things to do for anyone else venturing across the sea this year??

RE: Podium light leaks
You might try the Podium forum. I did a search for light leaks in the trouble shooting section of the forum and found this discussion:
Might be of some help. I have also found some problems with unusual hot spots and was able to control them by changing the view and/or angle of the sun.

RE: Does this mean you can text while driving?
I couldn't believe some fools have brought out a product with a TV screen for the drivers view, at the computer show in Las Vegas right on the heels of most states banning cell phone use and texting while driving. This product makes sence only if you are in favor of a rather violent form of population control.
My wife and I have a long daily commute on the Illinois toll way system and for most of the erratic driving we can see the telltale right hand up to the ear of a cell phone user. We have passed fools with laptops open in the passenger seat as well, and there are the non-electronic variety with open maps and or newspapers. Great fun at 70-75 MPH.
One positive unintended consequence, this sort of driving keeps my reflexes as sharp as a 20 year old
