Another question, has anyone used Terragen? Looks similar for the end results, but dont know if it works with SU and what its workflow is like.

RE: The VUE thread
So I am using Pioneer right now to try a few things out. If I buy one of the add on packs (Vue 7 Fantasy, or one of the other "T-Packs"), am I then able to import SU models and work with them inside of VUE? Also, if buying one of these packs, will it remove the VUE Logo from the renderings? Thanks!

SU Material Plugin?
I know (I think) I have seen this somewhere on the forum, but cannot locate it. Is there a plugin to clear all materials in a model and make them another material? Thanks in advance for the help!

RE: Wall Texturing and Patterning
Sorry for any confusion, I am rendering the model with vray. I usually always model each piece of siding with the correct profile (via one profile and scaling the component), makes for better shadow lines and faster render times vs. doing a bump or displacement map. Soooo I guess I really dont know my question, maybe I answered it. I guess if anyone has any other ideas on a more efficient way of doing it.

Wall Texturing and Patterning
I am working on a project similar to the image below. We are putting metal paneling on the outside but it is all multi-colored and kind of a random pattern. Anyone have and ideas on how to do this best? I was almost thinking it would be a post production item, but would be a pain in the butt either way. Help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

RE: Creating Snow

RE: Creating Snow
Mostly on the ground. I will add some in the air in photoshop after I get my image.

Creating Snow
I am doing a ski resort here in Idaho and I would like to show a view with snow on it. Anyone have suggestions on modeling snow accurately. Also, anyone have some that they could share (inside Sketchup).
Help would be much appreciated. -
RE: My first animated render
Hey that looks a lot like my first few animation. I would always use a bunch of cubes and various shapes to try and get the camera and settings right. Looks good, keep posting the progress!

I wouldn't post the floor plan if the client doesnât want you too. It does not make for very good business relations. Most of the work I do cannot be posted until it has been approved and out of contract (built), then they want everyone to see it which is good for me because it makes for more business.
Not so much in your case, but in the commercial market and high end residential we never share images, there is too much competition between companies wanting to look the latest and greatest that if there current idea gets out then everyone will look like that. Lots of drama and politics, but they are the ones paying me the big bucks, well sort of.

RE: High end machines
Honolulu,
Windows on the MAC runs like an OS should run, fast and effecient. Which is kind of sad that Windows runs better on another platform than on its own machine, makes a lot of sense right? Run it through bootcamp and it will work awesome. It also installs all the drivers for you via the MAC OSX disk. My next machine will be another MAC, never go back to the PC, JMHO. They tend to be a little bit more pricey up front, but well worth it, they last longer and look much better. I have a G4 powerbook (1.5ghz) from about 5 years ago and it still runs just like it did the day I bought it, it is still faster than my other dual core pc (2.8ghz). Plus MACS have much higher resell than PCs. That powerbook on Macmall.com and on Ebay runs for about $1100 to $1200 used -
RE: High end machines
Solo,
I recently bought, and built a machine for $2200. Dual Xeon processors with HT (so 8 cores and 8 virtual cores) 12gigs of DDR3, two 150gb 10,000rpm on RAID and a 1.5gig ATI Radeon HD video card, which looks like a car engine (sounds like one too). Runs nice and smooth for a PC, rather would have got my new MacPro though with similar specs, The Mac is still twice as fast. These Xeon's are built on the same technology as the i7's but have are built more robust since they are server processors, and I have found they are able to carry more processes, I have been rendering in Vray, editing in premiere and aftereffects, editing in Photoshop, email, web, music and Sketchup all going and it still hasnât had a hiccup (except in SU since it doesnt utilize any of the HP of the machine). -
RE: Twisting 40 storeys Tower for Rio de Janeiro´s Mauå Pier
Yes post processing is a little bit difficult to do on those perspectives since they are more birdâs eye perspectives. Usually the two, sky and sea / land will kind of blend together when they meet at the horizon. I would do just as you suggested create some sort of fog and blend. Google birdâs eye views and horizon lines and I am sure you'll get some good ideas. Sorry about the waterfall confusion, to me it looked like an edge of a waterfall (from above). Keep posting!

RE: Airplane Study
OK, that makes sense, I guess I was confused from the amount of triangles in the wireframes. I thought you used the sandbox tool. I have never used the sandbox tool to create that clean of shapes, only landscape. Thanks for the reply.

RE: Airplane Study
I love these models. Could you explain a little on how you modeled the body and the wings, thats what I am stumped on from looking at the wireframes. Great job, thanks!

RE: Robobobo in progress
These are really nice! I especially like the black and white version.
Great job.
