    • RE: Remove SketchyPhysics Watermark

Thanks @ely862me, it was able to be hidden by clicking on it and saying "Hide", easy fix!

Strange thing is SP is installed to the plugins folder but no toolbars are present in SU. All components were modeled by me (not taken from 3D Warehouse or online). So I am not sure what the deal is, at least if we can hide it then it should be OK for now. Thanks!

    • Remove SketchyPhysics Watermark

I created a model in SU Version 7 Pro with SketchyPhysics installed (but no SP items were used in the model). I saved the model and another employee opened the model in SU Version 8 Pro with NO SP installed on a clean install (Windows 7) and a watermark that says "Requires SketchyPhysicsRC3" follows the model wherever it goes now.

The watermark used to stay in the corner but now it is somehow attached to the model and "orbits" around randomly when the user does. Any help would be appreciated since it is awfully annoying and all our exported images have that text in the middle of them.

      Thanks!

    • RE: Cabinet Design program for Sketchup

This looks like a great plugin. I would use it on a daily basis for my clients. I do a lot of kitchen and bath remodeling, as long as we could use custom sizes and finishes it would save a lot of time and headache. Please let me know when it is available for purchase!

    • RE: Latest Kitchen

Just wanted to add a note about the color. As a desinger, probably a fourth of my projects are kitchens but these two tones dont go together at all. I understand the client wanted this color, but if you were the designer on the project you should have incorporated this color much earlier on with the rest of the design. The design to me is somewhat mediocre and its a shame she spent so much money on these Italian cabinets for it to come out this way. I do understand however if it was a design build, then these items dont always get nailed down upfront and can cause a lot of greif! Sorry if I was harsh, just sharing from my experiences.

No, images 2 and 3 are photos of the completed project. I really wish I could have rendered the images that well. Someone like Solo or Nomer probably could get that good of an image but not I. thanks for the comments.

PMolson and Dermotcoll, thanks for the comments!

In the true spirit of FLW we could have left the flat spot and embraced the resulting leak.

You could be famous! It would be like another Falling Water...

I used VRay for the rendering, thats the only rendering software I know anymore since I dont do as much rendering anymore. I have a bunch of other images I will hunt down and post.

    • RE: HOME 3

Here is one of many projects in SketchUp but this being the most recent. The model and rendering was done in one afternoon to meet a deadline by the client which is why some of the lighting isn't that great. The final product between the two came out pretty close.

    • RE: Article on 3D

Was $20,000 entire project cost or your fee? I have a hard time with most clients here in Idaho (which is why I have been pursuing other clients in SFO, PDX, and NYC) even wanting to pay me for the design work. "What! You don’t work for Free!!! Well then I just don’t know..." It is completely ridiculous.

Agreed, most residential clients are worse than commercial, the type of design I do is geared more towards higher end clients and a lot of more unique ideas, no cookie cutter designs here. Thanks for the input!

Oh and the renderings in the article look amazing by the way

Looking good, somewhat resembles FLW's work. One question, are they really going to build the roof that way over the garage? Looks like some drainage problems in the near future.

Hey all these look great! The first one especially. Are you texturing in photoshop or within SketchUp / VRay?

    • RE: Article on 3D

To jump into this conversation with Solo & Earthmover, I also have similar problems with my clients. I have tried to pad my fee enough to include 3D renderings to present to the client and offer it as a "mandatory" service or a "surprise". When I do this they are more excited about there project, usually less changes (since they know what they are getting), and they have a good feeling about the progress we are making. Although there are only certain jobs I can do that with (the ones I have a higher profit margin on).

It never fails if I put "Architectural Renderings" in the contract as an extra fee it always gets removed, no one sees the necessity and benefits of having a rendering of the final project, no matter how many sample renderings from previous clients I can show them, they all think they can visualize it. I have had zero out of hundreds of clients who actually had the vision and can see it in there minds, no matter if I give them the AutoCAD plans and finishes / sample board, which I do every time along with a 3D rendering.

So my question is there any way to better include this service in my contract to not scare the homeowner away? My commercial clients usually always request renderings, but my residential clients, low or high end never do and are almost scared of it, even if I throw it in for free. It is a service that isn’t cheap and adds time to the project but is well worth it in the end. Could I just contract you Solo to do the renderings? 😄

    • RE: Work

I agree with all of rickgraham's comments. Those are the little things that make really sweet renderings. I would also add that the stream of light from the can lights should be taken out or blurred slightly.

I think overall its a good start, just keep workin on it!

    • RE: Old ducth guy with his 1st render

Hey these are pretty swell for the first go around.
The first image needs more reflection, sit in your living room and just look at things, all the little things that reflect and are shiny, thats a good way to get into it. I would take the material off the door glass and get some sun streaming in there. Also, increase the pattern on the wall, or get rid of it, I dont think its helping the scene.

We all start somewhere, I started with a great render then after that it seemed to crash for a while, must have been beginners luck, but with a lot of reading through these forums and practice you'll get there. Good job man!

    • Residential Project (wip)

Here is a work in progress project. I met the preliminary milestone deadline late last night. The exterior image needs some more work on the landscape, I will wait and see the clients comments.

      Comments and advice much welcome.
      Thanks!
