Why is the 1 1/16 dimension different than the 1" dimension below it from the same points? My units is set to 1/16" and snapping is set to 1/16" also.

RE: Tapering the sides of a box with box joints
I'm starting to feel like a real dummy. I cannot get past the point of copy, hide and paste in place. When I do that and go to intersect faces with selection, I get a message that says - No intersections found between the selection set and the rest of the model. Are you making the cutting plane a component?

RE: Tapering the sides of a box with box joints
The more I look at the other one, the more I like it. These are going to be jewelry boxes for my grand daughters (5) so it might be fun to have some variation. Thanks so much for your help.

RE: Tapering the sides of a box with box joints
Perfect. Thanks a lot. Also, as a side note, when I use the select tool, left mouse button, I do not see a box being drawn around the area that I want to highlight. It turns everything blue and selects it, I just have to guess a little when using this feature. any suggestions?

RE: Tapering the sides of a box with box joints
that is an interesting look. Actually, what I wanted to do was to carry the bevel all the way around the box. Similar to the bottom box in my file. would I just do something similar to achieve that?

Tapering the sides of a box with box joints
Is there an easy way to taper the sides of a box that is put together with box finger joints? I want the top box (with joints) to look like the bottom box when completed. I would like to preserve the finger joint detail but can't seem to figure out a way to do it. I am using (KK tools for the jointing process plugin).
Thanks, Jerry

RE: Push/pull
You are correct, it does create some challenges but is worth it in the end. Who ever said things should be easy?? Thanks for your help

RE: Push/pull
I just tried making the leg and getting rid of the area of the leg that curves. I then rotated the leg 7 degrees in both directions and drew a rectangle beginning at the "highest" corner point, did a intersect with model, and the erased the area below the plane and then the plane. This seems to work.

RE: Push/pull
Good deal on the fix! Anesthesia machine:) The degree angle should be 7 degrees both ways. I do envision the shape of the toe to be somewhat conical and that is OK. You are correct in your analogy of the feet. I typically work with hardwoods so that is not as much of a problem. I just like the way it "looks" as well as anything.
As a sub-note, I have installed sketchup make and the first thing I noticed is that there is no "plugins" menu. Am I to guess that plugins will have to be re-installed?

RE: Push/pull
Dave, you are correct in your bandsaw analogy. I want the curved part (bandsaw cut) to be perpendicular to the face of the leg. What I typically do is cut this part out before I do any trimming to length. I can then set up for a compound miter cut and trim the top and bottom to be co-planer with the top. Could this be done with section plane and intersect with model?

Push/pull
See attached file. I can only push/pull the area indicated in 1 direction. The other shapes seem to work fine and can go in either direction. Suggestions?
Thanks, Jerry

RE: Mortise and tenon plugin
Thanks Dave, that helps.
U are very observant. This drawing is still in the conceptual stage mainly so my client can see what I am talking about. Since I am still new, I tend to make "rushed" drawings until I get the go ahead and then go back and recreate it and do a better job of making each piece separately for accuracy and using the procedures that I have learned. I understand now what you are saying about the components being unique. So, if I make a change to one of the unique components, it will NOT make it on the other unique ones as it normally does on a change to a component. Correct? As a general guideline, is it better to make components as you go and then come back and group the components?
Thanks for your help

RE: Mortise and tenon plugin
I am using the wudworx plugin. I am a new user and I'm sure I doing some weird things. I am really enjoying it though. I guess where I'm confused is, to my knowledge, i did'nt do anything different on the shelves that are to the right than I did on the shelves in question. I use the boardmaker plugin from wudworx to automatically create the components. When you say unique, what does that mean? I went in and recreated each board into a component with a different name from each other.

Mortise and tenon plugin
Would you please look at the attached file and tell me what I am not doing right. The notes on scene 1 describe my issue.
Thanks,

Line clarity
If someone could look at this file and tell me why in the scene with the chair, the chair back and seat are nice and rounded and in the table and chairs scene, the same edges of the chair look like zig zags? I have played with the soften edges but it did not seem to make any difference. The soften edge settings are the same in both scenes. Any thoughts would be appreciated. btw, this whole set is being made out of recycled church pews. Kinda fun..

Expanding components
I have seen drawings in sketchup that take, for example, a drawer and expand in so that all the pieces of the drawer are shown seperately. Is there a script for that or do you just move the pieces individually?

Follow me
I am wanting to extrude (follow me) a cylinder to a sloped wall and wondering how to get the cylinder to project to the sloped surface and not go through the sloped surface.
