Yeah Dave, after correcting all of that, it seems to be working. Now, how I did that any different on the flr2 than flr1, I'll never know. Thanks

RE: Component creation causes crash
OK Dave, I was looking at flr 1, there are a bunch of reversed faces and linework not on layer 0 on flr 2. I will fix those and see what that does.

RE: Component creation causes crash
Not sure I follow Dave. I just checked entity info for all edges and faces and they are showing on Layer 0. How are you checking them? Also, I changed my style to be a contrasting green color for back faces and I did find some that were reversed, which have been corrected

RE: Component creation causes crash
Dave, when I try to create a component in a different file, all is well. So apparently I did something to this model that it does not like. I I just make a box, it crashes. Apparently it does not have to be anything complicated. I have uploaded to 3d warehouse under the name of "17-1890" I hope this helps. Thanks

Component creation causes crash
This was a topic back in 2015, but I could'nt find a solution.
When I right click, make component, the component dialog box shows up, I name it and hit create. Then, the programs little blue circle starts spinning and after a while, the screen goes black and will not restart. I end the task in task manager. I have figured out that this only happens in a particular file. Other files work fine. This only started today while creating a component. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program to no avail. I have sent an email to sketchup, but frankly, you guys seem to be a lot faster. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S., I cannot upload the file, says it to big. I tried to zip it and still did'nt work

RE: Deck Builder
Hmmmm, works now. Just needed some karma I guess. Thanks anyway

Deck Builder
Does anyone use this with 2017pro? I have previously used with older versions of sketchup, but with 2017, after installing the extension, nothing shows up in the toolbar menu. If not this, are there any other "deck building" extensions out there?
Thanks

RE: Rotation question
Dave, this can change quite a bit. I use this particular style (warehouse) for decks and porches. The rise and run (which changes the degree angle) can change even on the same plan, so it would be nice to not have to draw the pieces all the time. I'm not to much on dynamic components but I might try playing around with them.

Rotation question
I am wanting to be able to rotate a section of railing to varying degrees of slope. i.e., 35 deg, 42 deg etc. Is there a simple way of doing this without editing and rotating all the individual pieces (components)? Basically, I want the horizontal pieces to rotate and the verticals to stay put.

RE: Convert to construction lines (dissapear)
Thanks Dave. I will try that method. FYI, they do disappear in su. They are still visible in LO from when I first created the viewport. However, I did an update model reference and they are now gone in layout alos.

Convert to construction lines (dissapear)
I have converted my footing lines to construction lines so that they show as dashed lines in layout. But, they seem to dissapear from my model. I have checked to make sure that the scene that I am using has guide lines checked. When I go to my footing layer, there is nothing that is visible. What am I missing?, and is there a better way to achieve this than this method?
thanks, Jerry

Copying preferences to a new computer
I have upgraded my computer and would like to get my old preferences to the new computer. I have looked at various posts and still have a question.
I have followed the steps: 1) windows 2) preferences 3) file 4) export 5) saved to thumb drive 6) copied the preferences.dat to the new computer.
When I do the same on the new computer, when I get to the import option, the list of file locations comes up but 4 of them show in red and say "the path is invalid, try another path" However, I am not allowed to change the path description and therefore the import is not complete
I also do not know why I cannot upload the screen capture to this
Thanks in advance

RE: New computer woes
my new goal in life is to come up with something that you don't have a logical answer for.
Thanks

New computer woes
I bought a new computer and installed sketchup 2016 on it. When I go to add my license, it says "Oops...
That didn't look like valid licensing info...
check your license info and try entering it again?(hint: copy & paste works best)
Any ideas?

RE: Layout scale change
Ok, thanks Dave. I can see some benefits to the upgrade, but I also like your second suggestion.
Thanks again, Jerry
-
Layout scale change
When I send my sketchup model to layout, I select a template in this case 11x17, and use the 1/8" scale to create my construction drawings. I do this because I like the smaller dwgs to obtain pricing info. However, when it is time for field dwgs, I would like them to be at 1/4" scale and on larger paper. My question is, can this be done and if so, how. I can change the scale of the viewport to 1/4", but the dimensions do not change. Is it possible to do a global scale change and print to a larger paper size?

RE: Making a solid
I see what your saying. I created solid components for the muttin bars and then merged them with frame (component) I wonder why the two angled ones merged different that the center one. Maybe I didnt have it extended into the frame enough. I still can't see where solid inspector is telling me I have 4 short edges where the radius meets the straight line though

Making a solid
As per attached, I have a window unit that I want to make a solid. When I run solid inspector, it tells me I have 4 short edges and kinda shows where they are at. My problem is when I try to locate these edges, (7/64"), I can't find them. I have scaled the component up 1000 times and still can not see these. Your help would be appreciated.
