Joe don't missunderstand me, the route you did is OK for me too. I just wanted to encourage you to integrate some tuts like Gidon did. You can group a sequence of SUp actions on one image to confirm the text description. It's just a matter of balancing text and images.
I like also the Fine Woodworking forum. Really great.

As you know each person is different from another and the way you learn things could be very, very different. I've started with SuP a year ago or so. Could you believe me, I've never used the documentation ? But I ran a lot the videos with some personal trials on my computer. Then I asked question on some forums and Dave Richards helped me to understand a method of drawing with SketchUp for woodworking. I'm really not a specialist but I'm selfsufficient for my needs. Before using SUp I've never used any CAD software. So I wasn't badly contaminated 🤣
So keep ongoing your good job.

I already posted some few things you can see there:

    • Wall cabinet designed by Martin McCarthy

      Hi Folks,
I'd like to share with you this SketchUp drawing inspired from the original design by Martin McCarthy. Woodcentral.com contest winner of wallcabinet. Here the link http://www.woodcentral.com/contests/wallcabinet/
I liked this design and wanted to challenge myself drawing it with SketchUp.
      Here is the result.

      Dear woodworkers,
Chiefwoodworker, nice Blog and very detailed explanations. Beginners will be delighted for sure.
I'd like to put also my two cents there. As SketchUp is a graphical tool I consider better to give the explanations with short graphical tuts as Gidon did instead of using words. Means IMHO less text. Too much words can give the idea that SketchUp is complicated tu use, which is not. But this is not a critic just a question of taste.

Gidon, I use the same method as you for the tapered legs. For modeling tenons, I use both methods. In some cases I use the transparent view. Dave Richards is using this method very often in all his videos.

Tu as ton volume aux dimensions souhaitées.

      Hi Gaieus,
"gouzou" has got a new PC with Windows Vista and he is facing problems with Sketchup. Apparently it works slowly and with some "bugs". Gouzou is asking if that's due to Vista and if we can help him.

When I started with SUp I had a very good support with Dave Richards. I learned a lot and still continue with all of you. ThanksPetite table Louis XV_couleur.jpg

Devi meterlo in Google Sketchup 6\templates
      Rilanciare Sketchup

Hi All, here is a chair designed with SU. This is a copy of my own chairs but I need to build an additional pair. So all details are represented. But you can easily simplify in order to make it a reusable component.

    • RE: Textures

Sorry I did not get you correctly. I'll try again 😳
I made a box and create a group of it. Double click, select the face to be textured. Then paint bucket and paste the texture. Now with mouse right clic on the texture, "texture" option is available.
Turn you texture say 90° and clic outside the group.
Selecting again the box I can see that it remains a group.
So IMO I just edit the group without exploding it.
If you create a group with many components in it you can do the same way. First double clic on the group to open it, then triple clic on the component you want to edit.
I'm not sure if this is the answer you expected. If not I'm sur that other nice people will help you here
