Dan, you're at it again

You're correct in guessing that I was daunted by your changes, I appreciate you're understanding and your time.

As you may have noticed, we've made the decision of closing down ExtendSketchUp and in turn I won't be doing any work on SketchUp plugins in the foreseeable future. Please feel free to use my code in any way you choose and I hope some of it becomes useful. Sorry to be disappearing but I don't use SketchUp much these days and don't feel I can adequately support any plugins at this time.

Sorry bout the broken download zip, I've fixed it.

Had made the zip on the command line and apparently my settings only zipped the folders, doh!

I had a think about the Isolate Entitles: its great to be able to isolate something particularly in a large model when you want to just work on that specifically however it would is just as important to be able to revert back to the entities that were visible. The same applies to the Hide Entities tool: mostly I would think that once you've finished with the hiding what you need you'd want the option to revert back....

If I understand correctly, you're asking for the ability to "unhide all" which is actually a button on the menu, so you should be able to do that already. I apologize if I'm misunderstanding what you're looking for.

I've finished a new release of the plugin. I've renamed it to VisTools so it's not so confusing and ambiguous.

I would assume this would mean the end user would need to install the gem for it to work?

I have not tried compiling on windows since I own a mac. On Mac libcurl is installed system wide so it is more straightforward setting it up.

One thing that may work is trying to install libcurl using Cygwin and then trying to compile it in Cygwin as well.

I have a coworker who runs windows, so I'll have him an I check it out next week and see what we can find out!

I see one potential benefit that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet which is, if the speculation is accurate and Trimble makes add-ons to Sketchup, maybe that will be in the form of Ruby plugins which would imply that the Ruby API would get a much needed facelift (eg newer Ruby version, embedded WebKit browser, better file system APIs etc...).

If that is indeed the case, us developers would have a lot more flexibility and freedom to create even better extension.

Just a thought...

Wow! Exciting times for the SketchUp community!

I'm hopeful this will be a positive stage in SketchUp's growth and maybe will bring some much needed improvements to the community.

Off the bat, I'd say Dave's point about adding it to the description could work.

It may be possible via the API to determine materials of faces for components/groups but then it could get complicated determine the difference between a party's material and a material of a face... Seems like component properties are the way to go at this point...
