Dan, you're at it again ๐Ÿ˜‰

You're correct in guessing that I was daunted by your changes, I appreciate you're understanding and your time.

As you may have noticed, we've made the decision of closing down ExtendSketchUp and in turn I won't be doing any work on SketchUp plugins in the foreseeable future. Please feel free to use my code in any way you choose and I hope some of it becomes useful. Sorry to be disappearing but I don't use SketchUp much these days and don't feel I can adequately support any plugins at this time.

      Cheers!

Sorry bout the broken download zip, I've fixed it.

Had made the zip on the command line and apparently my settings only zipped the folders, doh!

      Thanks for the reply, Dana.
I see you have an 'unhide all' botton in the toolset but what I was thinking was if I isolate selected entities I would like to then go back to what I had shown before I did so, not necessarily unhiding all.

Gotya. Like an "undo" button? I could look into adding this, just not sure when I'd have the time to get around to it! ๐Ÿ˜•

Could be added with some sort of "history" buffer...

Hi Dana, nice clean set of Utilities.. well done and thank you on behalf of everyone who has downloaded it!!

I had a think about the Isolate Entitles: its great to be able to isolate something particularly in a large model when you want to just work on that specifically however it would is just as important to be able to revert back to the entities that were visible. The same applies to the Hide Entities tool: mostly I would think that once you've finished with the hiding what you need you'd want the option to revert back....

      Just a thought

      Thank you again. ๐Ÿ‘

      Glad you like the tool!

If I understand correctly, you're asking for the ability to "unhide all" which is actually a button on the menu, so you should be able to do that already. I apologize if I'm misunderstanding what you're looking for.

I've finished a new release of the plugin. I've renamed it to VisTools so it's not so confusing and ambiguous.

      Ishboo,

I use this utility alot with large projects and it no longer works with sketchup 8.0.15158. Could you please check why it does not load? Was there a change in the sdk that conflicts with your ruby scrpit?

      Many thanks,

      David

Hi David, I will look into and get back to you. I've been working on re-writing the application recently. Will update!

As as I mentioned before.. there are already Ruby bindings.

Curb looks like the most recent, it was last updated June 29, 2012:
      http://rubygems.org/gems/curb

I would assume this would mean the end user would need to install the gem for it to work?

      Hey y'all,

I have not tried compiling on windows since I own a mac. On Mac libcurl is installed system wide so it is more straightforward setting it up.

One thing that may work is trying to install libcurl using Cygwin and then trying to compile it in Cygwin as well.

I have a coworker who runs windows, so I'll have him an I check it out next week and see what we can find out!

      Hi everyone,

Just catching up on this thread againโ€” it has grown since I last checked! Seems like the worries you guys are expressing fall into a couple common themes, which I'll address below. Ping the thread again if there's something else you'd particularly paid attention to that I missed, ask it again.

For the folks worried that we'll stop offering SketchUp for free, "The free version of SketchUp is an important part of our world as well, and that isnโ€™t changing in the least."

For the folks worried that we'll only pay attention to the AEC industry, "If youโ€™re one of the many, many people who use SketchUp for something elseโ€”from education to woodworking, geo-modeling to movie-makingโ€”rest assured that there will be a SketchUp for you, too."

If you're just worried because you don't like Trimble's website, don't judge a book by its cover ๐Ÿ˜‰

For the folks worried we'll change the name, "SketchUp" seems like a perfectly fine name to me.

For the folks who think this is our big chance to write a 64-bit, mutithreaded Linux client build, see previous answers on our user forums. The core technological principles haven't changed either.

    • RE: A new home for SketchUp

I see one potential benefit that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet which is, if the speculation is accurate and Trimble makes add-ons to Sketchup, maybe that will be in the form of Ruby plugins which would imply that the Ruby API would get a much needed facelift (eg newer Ruby version, embedded WebKit browser, better file system APIs etc...).

If that is indeed the case, us developers would have a lot more flexibility and freedom to create even better extension.

      Just a thought...

i guess at first glance at trimble as a company (today is the first day i've ever heard the name), there's a sort of wishy washy taste left behind..

meaning, their website was the first impression for me and it just feels.. i don't know.. stuffy?

like a website that a bunch of engineers instead of a bunch of architects might put together? if that makes any sense..

or maybe something along the lines of how i'd expect a global shipping & logistics type corporation to present themselves..
like i said.. i don't know exactly.. just something..

hopefully the new boulder offices will still be populated with those mac boys, in which case, everything should be ok ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ‘ I agree their site could use a fair bit of makeup...

Off the bat, I'd say Dave's point about adding it to the description could work.

It may be possible via the API to determine materials of faces for components/groups but then it could get complicated determine the difference between a party's material and a material of a face... Seems like component properties are the way to go at this point...

Yeah checkout http://lumberjocks.com/daltxguy/blog/5143 to get Cutlist.

I sadly don't have much time or energy to work on Cutlister at this point. If someone wants to work on it, it is on Github and can be forked and modified: https://github.com/danawoodman/Google-Sketchup-Cutlister-Plugin

There's a good amount of documentation and a solid code base to work off of if you're so inclined. ๐Ÿ˜„
