    • RE: SU script / Ruby book for beginners

I hate on line docs, it takes a beginner forever to find stuff, especially when he doesn't know what he is doing. Sigh........, the reason I stopped programming was the advent of C++. Just couldn't wrap my mind around oops. Visual basic insulates the programmer from things like that, but here I go.........

OK, my very first foray was to mouse select a component and get its axis. Well after spending a little time looking at the Ruby API docs., and various examples, the best that I could muster was to open a message box when I selected a circle πŸ™‚

Thanks, was hoping to find something specific to Su, but since "none", your recomendation is as good a place as any to start.

Anyone know of a SU / Ruby book for a beginner? I have programed in C type languages (No OO experience), and have hacked visual basic. Looked at the stuff on Google, but prefer to read a book.

    • Distorted Sang

When I originally opened Su7, Sang's colors were distorted. Turning off hd'ware acceleration resolved this, so I assumed that the upgrade from Su6 obsolete my on board graphics adapter. I leave acceleration on anyway, otherwise modeling is too slow.

I just noticed that when I added certain components (for example 2D_Boy_Walking, but not 2D_Girl_BackPack (in that case both component colors were distorted)) to keep Sang company, his colors corrected until the system was shut down. When I attempted to exported the image of distorted Sang, the export was OK.

Is this a bug? Any suggestions?

Couldn't you just click and switch between scenes, each with a different setting for visible layer?

    • RE: CAD v Modeling

TommyK, no argument from me. Where 3D proves to be an efficient way to communicate, I have no doubt that it will be quickly assimilated into the overall process. Within the constraints of my system, your plan to draw every stud is ambitious and admirable.

A light note about progress: In my mid 20s I once drafted on my own time, first in pencil, then traced over freehand in ink, a residential 3 sheet set of plans. My boss thought I was nuts. At that time, residential contractors were working craftsmen, capable of building by themselves, everything wood in the dwelling from framing to cabinets, and doors. In the beginning of my practice, I was lucky to build two houses with fellows like this before their kind retired from the industry. Between the Architect, and these craftsmen existed the knowledge of what was expected. One of the old timers in the days of my youth told me that when he started, his library of manufactured products fit in a paper box, a file folder in height and width by 24 inches deep.

    • RE: Life's drama...

When I was in school, Corbu, and Mies (and many others) were still alive. They were all part of the movement to rebuild Europe after WWII. After them came Nemier, Kahn, and others still seeking to exemplify the best of mankind in Architecture. I recall looking our over the city thinking that Architects would play a essential part of the "brave new world".

After more decades then I care to own up to, I still believe, but only to the extend of the simple projects I work on. In the manner that I studied Architecture, Geary is the quintessential "Artist Architect". After all, one comes to see that there are many ways to "skin a cat".

Can anyone tell me if a SU plugin exist (and where it can be found), that will select (or insert) a component, and rotate it by pointing at a target, say along the blue axis? Thanks.

    • RE: Construction Drawings / 2D drawings from SU7 Free

Hi Joe (the builder?-), Don't know how much you plan to spend building your house, but $500.00 won't break the bank. Later, you can use SU pro to do the remodel. BTW, can't you down load a full trail program to see if making a permit plan is actually doable? Layout has some limitations. Here at home the Building Department bends over backwards to help non professionals so maybe you can actually do a permit set. I could not know, but I do not think that any Architect here has ever completed a permit set of house plans only with SU.

I agree. In addition there was not much information to evaluate the capability of the program to create, and maintain production drawings. I also did not notice any "User Programming Language".

Too bad for me that I am too lazy, and busy to request, and evaluate a trial of the program.

Hi Ken, Just a thought. Did you install sandbox, or copy it from SU6. If you copied it, try installing the SU7 files. Can't be sure but I thought that I read somewhere the the files were updated.
