never has a ford mondeo made people so happy (unless they're up to something in the back seat )

RE: Tank Suspension
honestly i don't know, it just works and i'm grateful for it

RE: Tank Suspension
Well I fixed it, but in all honesty I don't know what caused it. I fixed it by exploding the bar all the way to it's bare entities, and then just regrouping it with the hinge. I then added a second hinge above the first and then it worked like normal suspension. Heres the file, thanks for the challenge

RE: Tank Suspension
No worries mate, I've got a bit of time on my hands so i figured I may as well help out a bit.
The model has a couple of problems, I see now how you have configured the hinges and groups on this and The main problem is the lack of symetry. when I remade the hinge joints connecting the bar to the body I found out that the two sides of the tank behaved very differently. I don't know why this is, because I have rebuilt everything and it doesn't make a difference

RE: Tank Suspension
what i did was this:
I made a single segment of the blade, then added the two hinges.
I grouped these hinges and the segment together so they could all move together.
Then I used the physics copy function on that new group to create a sort of "Blank blade"
Then i copied this blank blade many times using the normal copy and paste.
I then exploded these new groups and connected the hinges from each segment to the segment next to whichever hinge I was using. For example, if I had Group A which consisted of a box and a hinge, and then Group B which consisted of a box, In order to connect the two then I would simply connect the hinge inside Group A to Group B.
This concept can be applied to pretty much naything, but a word of warning: contradicting joints will not work. What I mean by this is: if you ahve a hinge along the y axis and then another hinge along the x axis connected to the same object, that object will not be able to move at all.

RE: Hobbnob's WIP Thread
Bit more on the blackhawk, still unable to get pics though. As many modellers know, reference images are very important when working with sketchup. However, images don't quite work when modelling sketchyphysics, so heres a reference video.
[flash=720,480:8ki6mx4f]http://www.youtube.com/v/DpSMjnjfFU8[/flash:8ki6mx4f]I'ts from the film "Black Hawk Down", and it shows the first crash of the film. The footage used as reference is from 1:10 to 2:25. This footage shows an RPG-7 being launched at the heli, where it hits the tail rotor. As a result of this the aircraft spins very rapidly and crashes.

RE: Something new.
I don't think it will be tay, as it uses a whole new physics engine.

RE: Tank Suspension
I believe I understand your problem, but without the model I cannot be sure. What I belive is happening is that the torsion arms aren't bouncing? I uploaded a model explaining how torsion bars work in sketchyphysics, it can be found here: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=cb6fcdcf9ab5382e9312901ba4068eab&prevstart=0
it is used for a slightly different purpose here (in this case, a bending rotor blade) but it can be applied to your problem to create suspension for a tank. I hope this solves your problem, but if not then please post the model here so we can take a look -
RE: Hobbnob's WIP Thread
Been working on a black hawk helicopter, focus on the sketchyphysics. I am currently unable to upload pictures because I am not in possession of the file (long story) so I shall instead give some information on the sketchyphysics side.
The sketchyphysics
The aircraft is fully capable of flight, and is also fully damageble. A small knock on the tail rotor will disable the stability control and send the aricraft into a slow spin. The stability control automatically resets the pitch and roll of the aircraft, so losing that is a big problem. If the rotor is hit multiple times, the engines will begin to lose power and the aircraft will spin faster. A hit to the main rotors however will drasticalyl reduce the power output of the aircraft, and you will crash.
The situation in the model is that you have to fly over a hostile zone in order to reach a location. There is a single rpg gunner in the zone that the pilot cannot see until he has fired a rocket, forcing the pilot to either make evasive maneuvers or hope that the rocket does not hit any critical systems. I am trying to make this model as realistic as possible, in both the static model and the physics. Due to the new sketchyphysics coming though I am not sure whether I shall complete this model, because the new version may not be compatible with the current version, but it looks like it will. IMHO I am pleased that sp is getting a proper overhaul, but it seems that all of the new features require a knowledge of ruby script, which IMO could leave some users behind.

RE: Something new.
Kinda confused to be honest, mostly about the behaviour thing and ruby. Is sketchyphysics still usable for people who don't know ruby? A lot of the features mentioned need ruby to make them work, which is kinda worrying. . .

RE: Hobbnob's WIP Thread
New project, the first of it's kind: a sketchyphysics airshow. I used williamT's hawk and then added the red arrows livery, then added sketchyphysics. The aircraft are capable of breaking and reentering formation, but it requires split-second timing on the script's part so it's difficult.
Couple of pics:
And a link to the beta:

Just thought I'd put this here, my rally version of the azure

you mentioned that you were gonna do a rally version, but couldn't be arsed, mind if i have a go?

RE: Hobbnob's WIP Thread
Been off the pc for a few days, been sorting out kit for cadet 150 down at buckingham palace. Was a very good day, marched up the mall, met prince charles, talked about cadets and the regulars and stuff, wwas a very good day, I doubt everyone can say they've been to a royal garden party . Anyways, I'll be putting some more wip pics soon.

RE: Hobbnob's WIP Thread
cam, I have no idea what causes the sticking, it's so annoying.

RE: Hobbnob's WIP Thread
Bit more work on the Panther CLV, only one pic though, and a little attachment

RE: Hobbnob's WIP Thread
golden, I made contours using intersect, then 'rebuilt' the car using the curviloft beta by fredo6 (immense plugin). After fixing a couple of problems (it's a beta) the generated mesh looked perfect for fabric, so i scaled it up a bit then sliced a hole so that the viewer could see a bit, connoting that it's in one of those shows where they reveal the car for the first time(kind of what I was actually doing )
