.....The point being that there are different tools that are appropriate for different parts of the development process. SU's area is at the beginning, not the whole process.....
BLASPHEMER!!!! BLASPHEMER!!! .....there will be no talk of using the right tool for the job here thank you very much!!! There is no other god, you WILL use SU from start to finish, you WILL complain to anyone and everyone that it does not have multi core support, you WILL b*tch and moan that SU can't be pushed far far beyond it's intent and design to do what you need, you WILL start a on-line petition forcing Google to go a 64 bit version even though only about 5% of the population actually has a 64 bit processor......
Hey you other guys... go pluck the chickens while I heat up this tar..... and don't let kmead get away.

There's singing? Is there any dancing? Let me tell you, I can do a mean square dance....

Another question when i am rotating is there aney other better way of doing it because the one that comes with it its goes all over the place
You just need practice, I use the middle button to do my rotating. If I middle click and the pointer is not on the object I want to rotate around it will be on the background and THAT is what makes it go all over the place.
In other words, there is nothing wrong with the rotating, it's just that you need practice and to be careful.
No idea about the tiles but I have a suggestion for your model, apply a material (any material) to the reverse side of your walls, then turn it's Opacity to 0.
This makes it like a one way mirror, you can see into the bathroom from any angle but you can still see the material applied on the far walls.
Yes, imagine a nested component, called "Frame" on layer 1, the sub-components "Long side" and "Short side" are also on layer 1.
If you move the "Frame" component to layer 2 and turn off layer 1 it disappears. Why? Because the two subcomponents are on layer 1 and you just turned it off. Turn off layer 2 and the frame disappears as well. Why? Well you just turn off layer 2 and the frame is on that layer.
This makes using layers and nested components a real PITA, so I stopped doing it... using layers that is.
Paste in the component with the original layer turned on and the target layer turned off. Now using the layers toolbar move it to the target layer. If it disappears you know that you are on the right track.
I have attached a 2 scene model, the first has a complete sphere with 2 other objects poking into it.
The second is the result of:

I can't believe you fell for my "line"...... you are correct! But it does feel gooooood when I can figure something out for myself. Sometimes I will try for a least 90 seconds..........
Hey, where can I look to find out what all the boxes/*/pencils mean next to the posts??? And if one of my posts are answered is there a way for me to mark it as answered??
You can edit the original post and change the title, add to the front (Solved), that way when someone does a search in the future they see your question and that fact that the thread contains the answer.
I "fell for it" because I know and have seen that sort of attitude in the past. One guy at work, who has since "moved on", gave the attitude that he knew exactly what he was doing... we are still finding stuff he scr*wed.
Is it just that models or all of them?

Some leathers at PushPullBar
Just change color for some variations
I registered on that forum but I still can not download those images.
Do you have these as a collection? Can you zip up that collection? Could you make it available?

It's a HUUUUUGE chair. But very nice work and good choice.
Poor Bryce, he would need a helicopter to get up on that chair.
@dave r said:
Details, sir. Details.
If the chair was built as you've drawn it, the front legs would likely get broken in a short period of time. The short grain sections won't be very strong.
Doh!!!.... I saw that and thought the same thing but hey it's on the plans so.... now I can see that I missed a piece.
Ha ha ha... I just read my original post and realised from a certain view point it might seem like I was attention whoring, trying to get people to download and look at my models.
The question about about the effort to add texture to models was in realtion to what you do with your woodwork models, do you put in the extra effort, do you think your models are better off etc..
@dave r said:
By the way, your Morris chair is missing a couple of important parts.
Huh.... which.... what... where?
The only thing part of the plan I did not do was the piano hinge that attaches the back to the frame... I think.
At first I was putting textures on my models, then I stopped because SU was not doing the grain the right way.
Now I am putting in the extra effort to add textures to my models and change the grain of the wood to match what it is supposed to be.
I am still not sure it is worth the effort, what do you think?

one tutor, in the middle of a critique of my work, said that although my model was excellent, if i used sketchup again he'd mark me down. in his words "it's just not as sophisticated as, say a maya model would be"
Then they are an idiot, that's like saying "excellent painting but if you didn't use XYZ brand of paint brush then I will take marks off you"
@pav_3j said:
where did you read that it wasn't?
I can't remember and didn't care (still don't) SU does what I want to do but I got curious.
@solo said:
CAD = Computer assisted drafting to some and drawing to others.
... and design to others. I always thought it was design, if you use drafting or drawing then Photoshop could be considered CAD.
I read somewhere that "SketchUp is not CAD".
SU is the first 3D program I have ever used (hell it's the only 3D program I have used) what is the difference between CAD programs and Modeling programs.
There is obviosly some similiarities but what do CAD program provide that modeling programs do not?

Just wish I could have figured it out instead of hollering for help.
This attitude is strange to me, I search for, then then ask for help as soon as I get stuck.
Nobody can know everything and there is no point in re-inventing the wheel. I figure someone out there somewhere knows how to do this, so I will see if they can help me.
I get ALOT more done that way.
