I don't use it but I found it looking for a cheap MS Project like application for someone else. I have used MS Project before a bit and this seemed to have most of the basics. Worth a look for the price

Not sure you you all have looked at OpenProject but it might be worth a look.

Although it may be an Urban Myth, at the meeting that took place after Microsoft's announcement of Windows release, Gates apparently after sitting through a tirade by the angry Jobs was supposed to have said: " Well Steve, I think it's more like we both had a rich neighbour named Xerox, and when I broke in to steal his TV set, I found you had already stolen it."

RE: Mac v Win
Yes, I spend a lot of time on my computers too. I do like to look at pretty items so I have nice looking desktop images and such when my main applications are not open. My 5 year old Dell at home runs just fine. Probably going to replace this year just to use newer PCIe video cards, faster ram and such. I'll give the Dell to my 9 year old. He likes to draw with SU like his old man

Hmm, since one cannot measure "pretty" and "ugly" I'll leave that up to the individual. Both are tools to get a task done. I guess when my desktop needs to be pretty under my desk that will matter
or when I care how pretty the case is. To each their own.
I guess people go to the hardware to get a pretty hammer
As a designer I spend a lot of time with my computer and it is important to me that it looks cool. Of course, if my Macs were a source of frustration, I would change, but, they provide everything I need in a beautiful package. Sure, I've had my moments over the years when I wanted to throttle Apple, but, when it all shook out, there was no real viable alternative.
When I cook, I use nicely designed knives and if I was a carpenter... Nice hammer, Mike.On the topic of Mac vs Pc, well, when I was a kid the big fight was Ford vs Chevy.
Things never change.
You only pass this way one time. -

I've been running AutoCAD as my primary app for 15+ years. Trust me that gorilla is still fast asleep.
I too am a long time user (since 1989) and I will pass judgment when I see 2010 in action. I really liked 2008 and 2009 is a pain but if these new improvements come and are usable then the bar will be raised. It seems to me they they are finishing the addition of tools from 3D Max into AutoCAD. These seem to start with 2007 getting the Max rendering engine. We'll see how it is.

RE: Beach Hut
Eric, you seem to just get better and better. My only and I do mean only crit is on the far right hut. It has the weathered look which looks good. I would make the trim have the same weathered look. Other than that they look really good.

RE: Hypershot Again
Great renders! Can you share one of the green mustang in full view? It would make a great wallpaper. Good job again

Hypershot i believe.
Cool renders, but could i ask what that little thing sticking out if the bonnet is in the first one? looks a bit like a stethoscope...
They are hood pins, you mostly see them on true race cars. They lock and hold down the hood (bonnet) instead of the usual hood (bonnet) latch. They were popular in the late '60s and early '70s muscle cars here in the States.

RE: Blender for pda or windows mobile!
Thanks for the link Jon. A friend just gave me his un-used Verizon XV6700 pocketpc phone. They never used it one bit. Never even had service. Not sure if I'll put cell service on it but it's a cool wifi PDA. I was looking for a good ppc freeware site. Thanks

RE: Brochure Houses
Nice models Eric. You should share these over at CadTutor. I think a lot of members would love to see these, they are great examples of how standard SU images can look great!

RE: Silvershadow's eye candy 1: The river runs thru it
WOW! Truly blown away! There is a new standard to strive for with SU!

RE: 3d modeling program
Maybe have a look at Wings3D. It is a free polygon modeler that should model rocks just fine.

RE: If Autodesk brought SU would the World End?
@unknownuser said:
Although its really pointless guessing im not sure Autodesk would have moved SU in such a bad way.
They took on Revit and it looks to be in a pretty strong position now!Maybe they would have taken on SU and progressed it further and at the same time taken some of its ease of use and bolted that onto AutoCad.
Thats how I feel when I look at AutoCAD Architecture (formely ADT) It is this cumbersome Autocad product that is very powerful, but not user friendly at all. It is a sort of hybrid of ACAD and Revit. What im getting at, we all seem to slag off Autodesk, but that does not mean they would have stood still or ruined SU.
I agree completely. While I do feel that AutoDesk charges too much for it's software I see others do it as well. I do think that AutoDesk would have developed SU more to what "we" would like to see instead of simply a tool to populate Google Earth. I for one dreaded the day Google bought @Last.

RE: Switching from Mac to PC...
[quote="Tim M"]Currently I have a G4 450 MHz running on OS 9. It has been and still is an excellent machine. I have had it for 8 plus years. Of course I can't run SU on it unless I upgrade to OS 10. One of our IT guys at the office advised against it saying I would be better off in the long run with a new computer. What I don't know is if OS 10 would work on my current computer or not. Is anyone running SU on a computer like this? Maybe there is hope in an upgrade.
I will compare both platforms. Thanks for the advice.
Tim
I'd have to agree with him. What is the ram in a G4 450, PC-100? Does this one even have an AGP video card? Sure OSX will run on it but why do it?
Looking at http://www.everymac.com I see that these could have a 2X AGP slot and they did have a 100mhz system bus speed. Looks like a mini would be a faster machine that these in OSX. I got rid of my old PowerMac6500 for this reason. Not worth the upgrade headaches

RE: ProgeCAD Smart - Autocad alternative
@lewiswadsworth said:
Apparently, Glenn, it's not as easy as that...I have to assume that they have tried and there is some problem, or they wouldn't ask for alternatives. However, in a design studio I don't specify or require particular pieces of software, or use of a computer at all, so in the end it's up to them.
Well I haven't tried so I cannot say how hard or easy it is. I was pointed to this site a while back on the CADTutor forums. I do understand that it is simply an option of theirs as to what if any software they use. Just pointing to maybe a helpful link, that's all.
Cheers

I've been recommending this since you posted it, Jon, to my graduate architecture students who cannot afford student licenses to AutoCAD or one of the other major professional CAD programs. So far no one has complained, but it is possible they haven't really put it through its paces yet. I'm curious to know if anyone else has had issues with it, especially if they are students.
Lewis, why would your student have to "buy" student copies of AutoCAD? AutoDesk gives it away to students.
http://students5.autodesk.com/
All they have to do is register and they can get free educational copies of most of AutoDesk's software. I have not tried it since I am not a student but might be worth a look for them.
As for ProgeCAD I have tried it and it seems to work as advertised. It seems to feel like a version or 2 back as compared to the newer releases but it works. -
RE: Townhouse
What else can be said? Wonderful work. I too love the section render. Some of the best work I have seen.
