    • RE: Voice activated Sketchup - it's here

I always listen to music while I'm working.
Apart from not being able to listen to the music properly, I imagine problems would occure when you have lyrics like:
"There's a fine line between love and facination"
      or
"I wont let them push me around"
      or
"You move me with a smile"

It's a good thing there aren't too many songs with the word "delete" in them πŸ˜† .

This is my first post but I couldn't resist when I saw the title of this thread.

      Welcome aboard Charlie.
How come this is your first post? With work like that you should have been here ages ago!
Got any skippies to show us?

By the way, you owe me a keyboard. I visited your website and just sat there drooling. Apparently, you're not supposed to immerse your keyboard in drool. But hey, I couldnt help it.
      Beautiful work, Charlie.

      Hi Poke,
Your post got me thinking about how it might be done so I tried to make a spoon.

      http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/sas/Newbie/spoonexperiment.jpg

It didn't come out very good. I design and plan furniture so that this sort of thing is way outside my comfort zone. I used the soap skin ruby and the follow me tool and the intersect tool and a bunch of others. All in all this took me about 20 minutes.
I'm sure someone out there will come up with a simple and ellegent solution to modeling spoons and the like.

Have a look at these two skippys. I think they answer you question.

      Hi caddit.
I think masta has the right idea but I would use the off-set tool first and only then I'd go with the follow me tool.
Have a look at the picture.
Is that the sort of thing you're looking for?

It needed a fair amount of work.

Chris, I really apreciate the effort you put in.
I wish I could figure out the rules and logic of S-Physics. Everytime I think I've got a handle on it and try to make even the simplest of machines, I get the strangest results with objects repeling each other or falling off the screen or refusing to move. It's so frustrating because when something does work it's a joy. I spent all of this morning just watching the ornithopter you fixed flap it's wings.
      (Good thing it's Saturday! πŸ˜„ )

I noticed one or two hidden hinges and/or sliders way off behind and below the machine that are connected to it but I can't for the life of me figure out why they're needed and why they are positioned as they are.

I don't suppose there's a manual out there? Something like "SkethcyPhysics for utter morons" or something? πŸ˜•

    • RE: Scaling

      Hi Perk,
There is a very easy way to modify the dimmensions of a component or group without distorting it's parts. I went into this in answer to another question and posted some pictures by way of explanation. You can find it here:
      http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?p=4248#p4248
The explanation and pictures start just after the picture of the hamster with the gun. Seriously, there's a picture of a hamster with a gun.

      Good for you, Tina!
I don't know if you did a linear array or a circular array so I thought I'd add a circular array tutorial just to be on the safe side.

    • RE: Japanese type joinery

Actually, there's an easy cheat. If you don't mind a bit of 'cut and paste' you can make this joint on a table saw by cutting a slice off, making the bottom half of the joint and then gluing the slice back on. If done carefully, the 'cheat' is all but invisible. πŸ˜‰

      Chris hi,
I tried adding the hinges where-ever they appear in the model and I tried adding sliders to the connecting rods but nothing moved.
